The Newbie Nightmare
Rise Of Mankind Epansion (or ROME, for short)
I've been making a number of additions to the mod, and having done so in a modular fashion, I thought why not release it other players? I think it adds a bit of colour and flair to the game: hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

Rise Of Mankind Expansion (R.O.M.E.)
Requirements
===================
This add-on was made for Rise of Mankind 2.62.
Installation
===================
R.O.M.E. has been designed to work as a module that sits alongside your existing ROM installation and will not alter any of the mod's original files. Simply extract the contents of the zip file to your Rise of Mankind folder, which is usually:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind
Rise of Mankind is already configured for modular loading: you do not need to enable it.
To uninstall this add-on, simply delete the all folders with the 'ROME' prefix from the Modules folder.
1.5 Addition: in order for some units from the Mega Pack to display their new skins, I had to edit some XML files in the Custom Civilization files. This installation will ask you to over-write certain files. Say yes to obtain the new skins. See below to get the old skins back if you prefer. In addition, this installation will ask to over-write some unitinfos.xml files in the Custom Civilizations folder - this is essential for certain units to be in the correct upgrade path.
1.6 Addition: in order to integrate the new civs from the Mega Pack with the Revolutions component of the mod (which for some reason wasn't done originally), this installation will ask to over-write 1 file: RebelTypes.py - I reccommend saying yes and getting the new file, but its up to you.
1.7 Change: if you have also installed Joyoo's excellent Better Gameplay Add-on, you will need to install the supplied compatibility patch. See that readme for details.
What's in the mod?
===================
At this stage R.O.M.E. primarily consists of a unit-based expansion of the Renaissance and Industrial eras. particularly focusing on the European civlizations. Here is what you get:
* The medieval Great General model has been replaced with a Napoleonic-looking one. This is is more appropriate since the the middle tag covers Renaissance and Industrial periods, and the Firaxis model always looked out of place.
* The European unit art style has been altered significantly, with many new skins added in the style of Napoleonic and Colonial wars. Some units have also been added to the Asian unit art style. For more details, see the change log.
* A new unit has been added: the Trench Infantry. It is a minor upgrade from the Rifleman, but comes before Infantry. It is there to cover the WWI period.
* The Modern Grenadier unit has been replaced with the Stormtrooper: it fulfils a similar function, in that it provides a smooth Industrial-age upgrade path for the Grenadier. The Stormtrooper has much of the same stats that the Modern Grenadier did, but also gains a combat bonus against armoured cars and when attacking cities. This unit simulates the technological advances that were made during WWI specifically to address trench warfare.
* The Cavalry unit's upgrades have been pushed back. It no longer upgrades to Motorcycle and/or Armoured Car, but to Jeep and/or BTR 80. New WWI-style skins have been introduced to cover this unit's continued presence on the modern battlefield.
* Some existing Unique Units have had the graphics altered or replaced. The English Redcoat now has the skin for a Zulu War-era soldier (think Michael Caine in Zulu) whilst the original Redcoat model is used for the English Musketman. The Ukrainian Cossack now uses the Russian Cossack skin, whilst the Russian Cossack has an entirely new, crisper, more Napoleonic look. Hungary's Huszar Cavalry also features a new, Napoleonic-style skin. The French UU, the Musketeer, has been moved back in time to replace the Arquebusier. The French also get a new skin replacement for the Musketman model.
* Some units, such as the Heavy Pikeman, have a different model for the Middle & Late periods. This means that the unit will automatically switch appearances when an era changes, but before the unit is upgraded. In this way, even obsolete units can still look like they belong in the time.
* The Celtic civilization has undergone significant cosmetic variation, with a new flag and several flavour units. This is purely because I mostly play the Celts and I wanted to improve the experience of playing as them.
* New Civ: Confedrate States of America. The Confederacy has 3 leaders (2 of them 3D and animated) and a 2 new UU's (the Stonewall Brigade, a mobile version of the Rifleman, and the Bushwhacker - a guerilla-style cavalry unit).
* Changed some basic rules that better suit my style of game. For example, I play with Raging Barbarians, and I always thought it unfair that I could only get 15 XP from fighting them, since I spend most of the early game fighting them! XP gain from Animals and Barbarians is now practically unlimited.
As of 1.2, I've started to expand the future era of Rise of Mankind:
* Changed the look of the Special Infantry unit. It looks more like a military unit and less like...something weird.
As of 1.5, due to integration withe Mega Pack, I've had to make some changes to files in the Custom Civilizations folder. If you wish to undo changes I have made (which are changes to skins of some UUs) I have included .rar files that contain the original files. Just right-click those .rars and select 'extract here'.
As of 1.8, I'm including my personal .ini file for Advanced Unit Naming. Extract to your Rise of Mankind folder and confirm over-write. It contains my own system of unit naming, which I hope you'll like. Units will have era-based suffixes, so at certain points in your game you can see a unit and see when it was built, and it will remind you of its history. Just a little roleplay touch that I quite like.

===================
I made this mod purely for my own enjoyment and I've only uploaded it because I thought some other people might enjoy it. In that light, this mod add-on is provided as is, with no guarantee of support if your Rise of Manking installation goes tits up. That being said, this has undergone extensive testing (albeit by only me so far) and I don't wish there to be any bugs. If you do find any, or have any feedback on unit balance or your general enjoyment of the mod, I can be found under this name at CivFanatics.
