Rise of Rome revisited...

1802 - 3 English galleons sighted off Richmond with ironclads! 7 cavalry land!
-English cav attacks the "line", we hold 'em back with bayonets.
-At London, our bombardment destroys the barracks and temple.
-A mighty tough English galleon sinks one of our ironclads!

1804 - The new "line" is finished, with 7 fortresses all connected by rail. They cant get into our territory short of an amphib assault. Roads north are cut to prevent cav from escaping and healing in cities.
- English ironclad kills one of ours off Asyut.
-London: bombardment destroys marketplace and 30,000 citizens. They rush-built something too, infantry I think.
- Lone infantry in Richmond holds! Walls rushed!

1806 - One of our ironclads gets the little bugger off Asyut, and is promoted.
- Troops move up to attack Leeds, with lots of artillery.
- Troops landed to stop England from getting the horses across from Richmond, they have no horses right now! No new cavalry!
- London: Killed 30,000 citizens with artillery. They rush-built again. London is size 3 now.

1808 - No attack on the "line" for 2 turns.
- Infantry in Richmond now elite! Killed all 7 cav! :hammer:
- Cavalry and longbowmen with infantry attack at horses, they want it bad! We hold, but barely.
- London: Library, courthouse and bank smashed, plus 10,000 citizens.

England wants to make peace! We agree to a treaty for 1000 English gold, map and 2 workers. We gain some breathing room to ponder our next move.

We need more force to take them out, and I dont know if we should or shouldnt. Lets have a pow-wow and decide our plans.

1810 - England demands we remove troops away from Leeds and London, while they have troops in our territory! We had no chance to move ours yet!
We tell Elizabeth to shag-off and war resumes!
-English wipe out our forces by the horses.
-Leeds bombarded again, and razed! This causes their only coal to be lost! Galleon and ironclad destroyed in Leeds as well.
- London: Cathedral, University and colosseum destroyed, along with 10,000 citizens. London is a size 2 rubble heap now.
- The Prime Minister abdicates, but leaves the Empire with the Hoover Dam, Heroic Epic, and nearly finished Intell Agency. Our armed forces are strong, and trade with Iroquois keeps our citizens happy.

OK, Toasty, youre up!

London is smashed pretty good. There are 2 rubber tiles by York, and its the only two they have. Lets put that army to good work.

Take out the coal by Asyut before they get it back.

There is oil by Reading up north out of reach, and one near where Leeds was. Not much we can do about oil.

We can keep them from the horses near Richmond with the navy. There is a large English naval group somewhere north-west of Richmond. Watch out!

A small garrison is stationed at Richmond now. It should be safe.

We have to decide our war aims now. I am very unsure of what to do next. Capturing their cities is the easy part, stopping culture flips is very hard.

My feeling is we have to take it home to them now. They double-crossed us already twice. Razing cities like York, London and Nottingham would send them back to the stone age.

I leave it up to the next Ceaser. I left you in a strong position, give 'em hell.

Just kill them all. Then we can : -

1) Have the Continent all to ourselves!
2) No need to worry bout cultural flips.
3) No need to station a ring of forces around England (or what's left of it  ).
4) No need to worry about a stab in the back if we got embroiled in a war on the other continent.

England must go. :hammer:

Meseems to begin to agree with Knight- Dragon, but It should be a slow, easy process, not stressful. I am turning anxious! Mwweeahh! Nhheah! ;) Just my morning stretches ;)

By the way, anybody know how I can play a multiplayer Civ 2 game? Or does anyone want to play? I never played one before:confused:

I'll play tomorrow. I'm too tired right now and finals start tomorrow (to quote Charlie Brown, "AUGGGH!").

...what happened to our rotation? Did I miss something? It should be Ohwell's turn, then gonzo_for_civ then Knight-Dragon, etc.

See the first post!

I think Knight-Dragon's idea has merit.

Raze the English cities for free workers, and build settlers from the outlying Roman cities, like Ravenna or the two towns south of Athens in the tundra, to found our new towns in the captured territory.

I think capturing Egyptian cities might be OK. I dont know.

Just be carefull to protect the new cities from English attack. The AI attacks our cities before our armies, even when it would be in its best interest to stop our armies first.

Iroquois and Russia are expansionist, and will come over trying to grab land when England crumbles. Locking up the coastline would be smart, as far as city placement.

I wore down the English pretty hard, but didnt accomplish much else. Well, I took away their ability to build new cavalry, and f*cked up London real good. But thats about it.

Ohwell, you are set up really good to hammer some English cities. It was my turn to build up for you anyway, after the great leave in the German game. Go nuts!

If you nail York to the wall, you take away their rubber!

Here is a little 5 turn update, 5 more to come!

1812- New infantry pouring in, artillery is coming as we need a little more. Naval battle near richmond, 2 killed, one lost.

1814- An English oil deposit destroyed(I don't think they have refining yet though)

1816- Veii builds the Intelligence agency, Building an army!

1818- Combustion researched, Mass Production is our goal. Great army approaches london.

1820- Eyes set on Asyut to raze, defended with one riflemen and killed, then spearmen defend.

Well, it seems like a stalemate so far, I am not too agressive, I am way too cautious. Suggestions?

I had a lengthier reply, but I got cut off. All I can say is, OUR ARMY WAS KILLED! BY LONGBOWMEN!

It and all the artillery :(

I do thank you, Joespaniel, for setting me up in a good position. It is just unfortunate that I am not good at all at war, so I could not use the forces to their potential.

I razed asyut, and a new group is near Alexandria.

I was trying to be more agressive, but I Guess it doesn't help.
HOW THE HELL are all of you so succesful in war? I am good! I am unlucky though! Why! I bombard, I make sure there is a good chance of victory... what the hell am I doing wrong? I make use of every possible protection, I am cautious, and the reason is I constantly lose battles. This game is absurd.

Death TO England...

I'm beginning to think longbowmen are underestimated in this game. I'm also beginning to fear them! Losing an army isn't losing the war so take heart Ohwell!

I've been thinking that we should take and keep London and the other English city (cities?) that have wonders. I would take them and leave them ungarrisoned until after the war (when the English are annihilated). That way when they flip back we can retake them easily with losing units in the flip. (I guess 'ungarrisoned' isn't quite right - we'd still have a 'garrison' for these cities, only it would be stationed right outside the city.)

Gonzo_for_civ is up now and Knight-Dragon is on deck! :)

Holy shorts!

Unbelievable... :crazyeyes

Ohwell, you have the worst luck, I swear...

Dont sweat it, we can avenge our army.

Make another one and smash York (rubber!!!) this time. In fact, forget the army. Take lots of infantry, artillery and cavalry and stack it. I'm losing my respect for armies.

Forget London and Nottingham until the very last. If all the other cities are gone, culture flip is a moot point. England will be gone for good.

Dont forget, we have the Intelligence agency!!!

This is good timing. I suggest we try to plant as many spies as possible without annoying
anyone. BTW, there is an army in Veii being built, If somebody wants it keep it going.
I too want England dead, they maximized my bad- luck, and they are enraged at us beccause
I razed Asyut. I always wanted to sit by a campfire in London! *hint*

Bloody English swine! We shall burn all you sods, and your houses too!

Longbowmen vs 3 infantry army, hmmm.

4 hp vs 12 hp

Each round, the Longbowman has a 4/14 chance of winning. The chances of it winning 12
times, uh, I am the Unluckiest man alive! ( now that I remember, it was more like 10,
the army was still in the green, but more like 10 hp)

Ok, I will download now and play today and tomorrow. Look for my 10 turns to be done in about 24-25 hours. I will try to be on time!:)

Yeah, if we take all the remaining English cities first and then London and Nottingham, we can keep all those Wonders too and their benefits. :D

Don't worry Ohwell; we can always build new armies. England is a goner by now anyway.

The best part is we have continued to build wonders and improvements, kept up the science rate AND waged a sucessfull war all at the same time!

Good work my friends, good work indeed!

Now on to York, to take their stretchy-stuff!

BTW - I didnt build any new aquaducts or hospitols to minimize unhappiness due to population. After England goes away, it would be prudent to start construction of such things.;)
