Rise of the Daimyo

gps to Calis.

etainer: Look my lord a foolish Daimyo.
Daimyo Hawklord: Where?
Retainer: There my lord over the river.

Daimyo Hawklord: What's he doing?
Retainer: I think he is challenging you my lord.
Daimyo Hawklord: But he is weak and inexperienced
Retainer: Yes my lord but he should have run away
Daimyo Hawklord: It is to good an opportunity to miss.
Retainer: If we eliminate him while he is weak and wounded by bandits we can expand our influence much further West without trouble.
Daimyo Hawklord: I'm afraid you are right Wannafuchi, it must be done for the good of the people.

It's a shame he wasn't our equal he might have been a nice fellow.

Sorry Blaze, but hey what could I do?

Do you all think this is a bit wicked on turn 13? It's an unlucky number 13.

Traveling & kick'n Bandits with the Daymio of the Takeda Clan.

Blaze Injun

he is weak and wounded by bandits

Hey,

Lordy smokes!! That was fast. Just the way we like it!!! :D

Blaze Injun

Holy Cow! Where is my nice new-found neighbor gone?! Now I'm all alone again in this dump and no one left to trade with me.

This is even faster than Cyc's death in "Rise of Japan"! (I think it was around turn 30 back then.) Actually I do think it's a bit wicked, the game didn't even really start yet.

It's not like we had a deal to fight bandits together. He shouldn't have put his king piece in such danger.

I do feel a bit mean. However, who would have resisted the temptation?

Oh, man....

Playin' with Blaze was half the fun of ROD. :(

Hasta la vista, Injun.

Takeda clan has it much too easy in this scenario. Now it'll be even easier.

I too attacked a brother Daimyo in ROJ. But that was after he sneakally (is that a word?) declared war on a small town because he did not want them to use their Iron. My inexperienced Daimyo had to ride past his slaughtered people to attack the sinister Myoshi Daimyo of old.

A distant cheer is heard in the Western hills. "Hail to the Mori Daimyo!" Payback is a :):):):):) Myoshi...

Ok, mourning time is over. Let's play. Cyc starts scratching his arm and his leg starts to move up and down. "I need my hit!... I mean my save, let's play."

I did think about it. It seemed a shame but I wouldn't have been saying that when a Miyoshi SoD came knocking at my door :)
In order for one of us to become the emperor of all Japan, some must fall by the wayside.

I checked in the other ROJ thread and mostly this is the way a Daimyo dies in that one too. It was an honourable death if an early one.

I'll look forward to challenging Blaze in another fantasy world.:D

I think in a game with a king unit you just risk to lose it when you move around. That way I also was eliminated from the ROJ game. It just were barbs there...

:salute: to Blaze

Hey,

Yes a very honorable death. Daymio vs. Daymio.

I couldn't ask for a better way to go. Far better then
DEATH BY NINJA.

@Hawklord The thought of me using a SoD
in this game is uncalled for. As I have said in many PBEMs I hate the
use of SoDs & would love a game that would limit unit stacks. :D

Blaze Injun

Yes, I as well regret Blaze's early departure from this game. It is true, we have been teasing each other quite a bit in Rise of Japan, but I respect his honorable conduct and enjoy his originality... :goodjob:

A colorful player has left us. However, as Cyc already pointed out: the game will go on and we need to start looking ahead again. I'm sure Blaze will still cheer us up with occasional comments and pics, so we have not lost the "fun part" completely...

Recently I have revied Loulong's thread about PBEM etiquette again in order to make sure I don't violate any of the accepted rules amoung you. (In ROJ I had omitted to anounce the completion of a Great Wonder, which apparently is an unspoken rule amoung the PBEM community, and Blaze called my attention to that.) I had read it more than half a year ago, when I started playing PBEM, but since then had already forgotten much of it...

While reading "akot's rules" I noticed a lot of points, which appeared a bit "unnatural" to me, meaning: he listed quite a few "exploits", which I don't consider "exploits", but rather "valid strategies". I guess this is because I'm so used to playing under the "GOTM rules", that these rules have become my seond nature and I don't even realize it consciously any more when applying them. Other people may have the same problem, for example Calis is a very active HOF player, so for him the "HOF rules" may be natural. Therefore I decided to highlight a few of those akot's rules here, which I think may become significant for this particular game. Perhaps we can agree on whether we want to ban or allow them for this game. (All of them are allowed under GOTM and HOF rules.)

  • 3.2 - Hitting F1/back-forward to change production
  • 3.5 - Chaining naval transports to quickly move land units across water
  • 3.8 - Staying at war to upkeep War Weariness but not actual fighting
Here I agree that this is not ok and should be banned. But I list it here, because I think it is very hard to enforce. Where is the border-line? Sometimes you can't really determine, whether a player is holding back his units, or whether he is not attacking simply because he doesn't have that many units anymore, but isn't willing to accept peace, because he thinks his opponent is equally weak and hopes to be able to (re-)take one more important city in the near future, before finally making peace.
  • Palace Jump

Here is another point that I found on Apolyton: up to now we thought it is impossible to declare war in multi-player. Therefore war was always declared via a "sneak attack". However, someone on Apolyton found a way to declare war:
  • Go to F4 and select the opponent
  • Click on "Active Deals" and then pull the "Peace Deal" onto the table. (The advisor will ask you: "Are you really sure, we should renegotiate peace?!")
  • Now click on the Peace Deal again to remove it from the table.
  • Leave the F4 screen and now your are at war with the opponent!

The question is: do we want to adopt this procedure? This would eliminate the "sneak attacks". The attacked side has time to prepare his defenses (or even deliver the first blow of the war?!). And it would eliminate the "sudden death" of a Daimyo. (Takeda would not have been able to kill the Miyoshi Daimyo right away, they would first have to declare war and then attack next turn. That would make traveling with the Daimyo a bit safer...)
Or do we want to keep the "sneak attack" procedure? I'm ok with both ways.

@Blaze SoDs are not your thing then. How big a stack is a stack of doom anyway? In this scenario a stack of doom is anything big enough to kill your Daimyo. :D

I don't see why you should have to declare war the turn before. It wouldn't always happen in real life. It will be part of your strategy to keep an eye on rival tribes forces near to you. I don't like the RoP trick in human games though. So if you have R0P you should declare war before stepping over the border to invade. That would be the honourable thing to do.
