Rise of the Imperator (Chapter I)

Sorry to hear your computer took a crap on ya  . It's happened to me a few times so I feel your pain. We are really behind on playing the save so I think you and mfie shouldswitch spots. This will keep you from feeling rushed and get the game back on track.

Ok, I'll look at the save, expect a report today or tomorrow

3250BC : I let the warrior scout around the copper, and let the workers and researchers continue what they were doing (chopping a forest and researching agriculture).

3150BC : I lead the warriors trough the forests to protect him from evil animals. And it helped: he was attacked by both a bear and a wolve on the same turn. I promote him to woodsman II after the fight and send him to a nearby hill to heal.
Meanwhile the workers finished chopping the forest and we researched agriculture. Since We won't work the corn till the settler is finished I let the workers chop another forest.

3100BC : I start discovering 'the wheel' to able to research pottery (and later writing). And to be able to connect the copper when we got it (wich will take about 1000 years i guess)

3025BC : The warriors are healed and continue exploring to the West

3000BC : We get an annoying random event

2950BC : The work starts farming the corn tile

2900BC : Despite my effort the warrior gets eaten by a bear, when he was on a hill and in a forest :o
I start researching pottery

2875 BC : I start a warrior in Rome
our kingdom:

I will settle the red dot, and sugest next to settle black (gold and rice, only setback is a lack of hills, but I think there are to hills in the fog tile)

2825 BC : Antium is settled and i start a worker there

2750 BC : Corn is finished and I let Rome work the corn tile

2725 BC : Were even worse than forgotten according to Toynbee, but what do you expect since we have 0 militairy units and buildings :p (I suggest we build a another warrior after this one is finished, so we can protect both our cities against barb warriors)

2650 BC : I start writing and finish my turn

Note: I hope I have chosen wisly when I decided to not go for mysticism, but get our border pop in antium with the library, wich takes way longer. (I think we'll have our axeman roughly on turn 100)

I will upload the save if someone explaines me how :p
EDIT: Save attached

Won't get to open the save til tomorrow but I hope we do not live to regret delaying Axeman for so long. All we had to do is research Myst and chop 1 forest for a monument.

Got a chance to look over the save this morning. We need defense and the Warrior being built in Rome will not stand up against a Barb. How I see it we have 2 choices:
Archers= Hunting (5)-->Archery (7) (12 turns)
Axemen= Mysticism (6)/culture pop + mine (14) (20 turns) granted we build roads before we pop.

EDIT= I forgot we are on Epic so I think it will be 15 turns to culture pop. That puts us at 25 turns before we can begin building Axes. That may be too long. I think we better get some Archers out first.

You guys don't think we could survive until library?

Spoiler :
I played further and researched writing, build a library in Rome en Antium, chopped in Antium, waited for border pop, builded copper mine. (ran scientist in Rome)
And since Rome is connected to Antium via river I build Axeman in Rome: The whole time until axeman I saw One! warrior, who didn't even got close to my borders

So I think you overestimate the barbarians

My suggestions:

Research Writing
build a library in Antium and Rome (before writing you can build some warriors => 3)
chop a little in Antium (you got 2 workers), get the copper online and build some axeman in Rome
Then we are ready for further expansion I suposse. (I suggest first black dot and then green):

What we should research after writing: I got no idea :p

Well that doesn't mean anything I have it on random seed on reload. We could very well see barbs soon. You may be right and we may not see any but if I have learned anything playing on Emperor and higher is that defense is vital. I will digress and let Korias make his decision concerning defense when he plays his turns.

Any luck with your Computer yet Korias?

My computer's in between patches, blue screens, driver updates, and a whole mess. I forgot how long I had spent customizing the damn thing until I realize that I have to do it all, so at this moment Civ 4 has yet to even be installed- I havent even set up my keyboard and mouse yet.

Considering the current turnset, I think that using the warriors to build some population before chopping/whipping a library out might be the best use of our time. Maybe ONE worker depending on which city has the shortest time, but getting population for our whips is the best deal we can get right now.

After that, Techwise, I'm thinking move towards something that will give us a significant boost- have there been any wonder/religion announcements yet? If there hasnt, a quick detour to maybe try for an oracle slingshot might be worth it, otherwise I'm not too sure where to go, maybe try to move towards Construction?

If you guys are content with warriors for a while I guess I'm on board. Definately need to get some farms going in Rome after we connect Copper City. Then Warriors to grow until we finish Writing. After Writing we should probably beeline Priesthood for Oracle or maybe Hunting-->Archery-->AH?.

Autocons next, haven't had a reply on the thread yet. I'll shoot him a PM tomorrow if we do not get a "got it" from him and see if he's still in.

I don't say we need no defense, I just think that when we have 2 warriors a city this is enough to defend against barbarian warriors and archers until we can build axeman when we have a library in Antium.

I think your bad luck has rubbed off on me Korias. My civ crashed  , the Initialize Renderer failed and I have been trying to diagnose the problem all day but no luck. I have a post in the tech forum so I am crossing my fingers that someone can help me. Damn games been working fine since I got this computer now all of a sudden it crashes!

Well, I guess its good that I finally got my computer back up to functionality? Sure its not 100%, but its got all the functionality apps installed and Civ4 is ready to go. I'll pick up the save tonight unless something gets in the way.

Good to hear I am still working on a diagnosis for mine. I hope to have it back online before the save gets back to me. Wish I was a little more computer savvy I am counting on the great minds in the tech thread to help me.

Alright. Before I take the save, I want to make sure that my objectives are to rush towards Writing, Build a Library in Antium and Rome and run specialists in Rome while Antium cranks Axemen?

I agree with this :)
EDIT: We really need some more scouting too, you can use a warrior for that

I agree, after that we should probably start thinking about a location for city 3.

I agree, lets secure our borders and get writing/libraries done. We should probably get a scout (or 2) out as well, we really don't know whats nearby. There could be a really prime location somewhere that we don't know of.

Good point we need to start bustin some fog and get a good dotmap layed out.

Alright. I have the save, Playing now.
