RK-08: Atomic Betty

Well done! Sorry about that. I was very busy so I didnt get to mention this, but I'd been drawing garrisoned troops from our cities, leaving thier defence to our frigates.

Another thing I forgot to mention.

We need State Property. And the Kremlin would be nice, but State Property is going to be needed as we have alot of cities ands are bleeding gold...taht, and setting York and Notthingham up as Missionary spawners would be useful.

I think as soon as we finish off Alex and Frederick, we will be able to focus 2, maybe 3 cities to producing missionaries to spread 2 of our religions to every city on the continent while we build enough army to crush Wang using our remaining core cities. For now, though, I'd rather we continue building mostly military (with an occasional missionary thrown in when we find a city with no religion).

Actually, I think our economy is cooking along quite nicely. In my opinion, State Property isn't as important as getting Infantry and Factories (and then nukes). We can build Forbidden Palace in Munich which is the likely next target after Knossos. We should probably discuss as a group and reach a consensus on what to research next. We have a great scientist who can help us find Scientific Method but we might want to make sure we have monasteries for all our shrine religions before that tech obsoletes them.

Also, we have some other National wonders besides Forbidden Palace that need constructing -- namely:

Ironworks -- any good hammer producer like Uppsala?
West Point -- does London have a national wonder remaining?
Wall Street -- either Nottingham (current science leader) or York (gold leader)

We have 2 Frigates and a Galleon along the former German coast. A third Frigate is enroute to the region, coming south down the Korean western coast. The next player (fb?) ought spend some cycles bombarding Essen's defenses down to zero and then fill the galleon up with a cannon and 2 Grenadiers to take out that German island city. Ferry over a Rifleman to garrison it once the Grenadiers have returned to the mainland.

BTW, naval units cannot defend cities. An enemy warrior could waltz into a city defended by 10 battleships and they'd all end up at the bottom of the harbor. Better that you learned this from us than from experience. I know that in Alpha Centuri, ships could defend cities but at a greatly reduced strength. Not so in Civ4.

Ironworks was already built in London by me, thus why it has such amazing military production - one unit assured a turn, as opposed to the occasional two.

That however meant West Point needs a home...perhaps one of Fred/Alex's old cities could make a nice home?

Wall Street..I'm partial to adding it in York...

I'm not sure what Relgious Civic we are running, but, if we are still running OR, cities do not need monasteries to build missionries, so we can go ahead and obsolete them there.

As for my Frigate comment, I know that they cannot defend cities. OTOH, no one can invade if our Frigs send them to Davy Jones Locker...*laughs evilly*

When we get SOL, and as we are runnign mercantilism, just a little micromagament request...

Can we make sure Uppsala uses it's specialists for an artist/merchant, York for two priests, London for two Engineers, and Nottingham for two Scientists?

That way, no pollution, and unless it's set, the city governer...*shudders*

One last thing...we can't go to free religion...As as loong as we are in it, it 'obsoletes' both Sankore and the Minaret. We get more beakers (and can rebuild new cities 25% faster) by keeping in OR.

I would vote for Cologne, then, to get West Point. It's just coming into it's power stroke and will be as good a city as most of our other core cities.

I concur with York getting Wall Street. We should probably implement these as soon as possible, letting all our other cities build military units in the meantime.

Good point about not polluting the gene pool in our GP farms. I did that after revolting to Mercantilism but it probably won't hurt if all of us make a quick check of that from now on as we begin our turnsets.

I think we should build a couple of monasteries before we get Scientific Method just in case we ever want to switch out of Organized Religion (Free Religion for the money, Theocracy for experience).

I understand now what you meant by letting frigates defend the cities. But if China shows up with 4 galleons filled with Cavalry, Cannon and Riflemen and escorted by 4 frigates, the best thing our frigate defender could do would be to flee. And if I had a dollar for everytime I've seen an AI stack of 4 Galleons/4 Frigates approaching my shores, I'd be a wealthy man.

Hm.... Where is Robo Kai? It's been about 36 hours since Frank has posted the save...
Well, I have no time now. I'll have in about 24 hours. Since it's Robo's turn, let's wait for him until there. If he doesn't pick, I will.
About our variant... Now it must be time for us to pursue the Manhattan Project, mustn't it? I need some guidance here, as I never launched a nuke before!
And vra... No jumping ahead this time!!! :p

Well, the way I see it, we have just a few tiny details to mop up before we win this game:

1. Conquer the rest of our continent -- only 21 cities to go, meanwhile ...
2. Research Assembly Line(11), Scientific Method(5 or great scientist), Physics(11), and Arillery(9), then build a modern Army.
3. Research Railroad(10) then Combustion(10) then build a modern Navy.
4. Research Electricity(12), then Fission(15)
5. Build Manhattan Project (then start SDI right away) ...
6. Build lots of nukes before anyone else can finish SDI and launch em, then immediately ...
7. Land our invasion force and capture another 30 or so cities, some of which are on islands off the other continent.

Piece of cake. (that's my suggested order, other will work too - research times are at 70% a substainable rate with our current economy)

Someone tell me again why I signed up for this madness? :)

Robo didn't show... So, I think I'll take it...

Yeah, I got it!

Stay tuned... will play shortly

9 Turns played! Sorry, can't play the last one.

Highlights:
Our Korean friend gives us some cash for SoL:
wangkonhelpsky2.jpg

Next turn we can buy it (and we do):
buyingsolme9.jpg

I can see Wang Kon and Mao were building the SoL. They got a lot of money right after that. I do this with Mao, just for starters:
maostradeku9.jpg

Some turns later, Mehmed declares on Toku. And then he asks for us to help.
mehmedwishesox3.jpg

Stop attormenting me!

On my next-to-last turn, Railroads come in and I set the research to Assembly Line. With Infantry we'll be able to get rid of our friend and right after that we go to the other continent.

I couldn't take any more screenshots, but Freddy is down to ONE city that is on a ONE tile island. We will need to do a amphybious assault there and we will lose a lot of units. I have only one galleon near there, so it may be better to get peace from him to get rid of WW, take Alex with our current army and then go after Wang.

And please, wake up our workers, pair them and start railroading everything!!!!

I couldn't take any more screenshots, but Freddy is down to ONE city that is on a ONE tile island. We will need to do a amphybious assault there and we will lose a lot of units.
Or we could just leave it and use it to test our nukes ... sort of like bikini atoll

Short Roster Warning
Robo Kai (last activity 2007-01-04)
FBelintani (just played)
Ruff_Hi (last turnset played long ago. I think he forgot us! )
Frankcor (played before me)
vra379971 (last activity 2007-01-07)

Last turnset played: 2007-01-07

So, anyone, please get it.. Let's restart the engines... We are close to the finish line!

I like the idea of getting peace with Freddy and :nuke: his last city. Or even better.. Get a cease fire only and leave one or 2 frigates there. If he tries to leave the island we sink him!

Been a fun read, I do hope you all finish this one. I had thought I was a wonder HO, until i seen Var. :)

Frankor, your last set realy had me laughing, I would also cry if I had seen cities this late in the game with no Defense.!!

I'd play, but I literally can't. So yeah, take it Frankor, and I'll go and see if I can get my Civ4 working again.

And yeah...what to say, the wonders were just...called to us. Okay, mostly me, but meh :P The oppertunity arose :p

Well, plans changed -- sometimes my other life gets in the way of Civ

As it turns out, we're doing quite well despite all the wonders we built. Remember, while wonders take away from building other stuff, they DO produce certain benefits. ;)

So off I went.

It's 1880 and Alexander isn't dead. I plan to change that. How? Empty our lands and pray no-one attacks us while I Blitz Alex. Oh, and send a few navy ships to scout the coast.

So, Turn 1, and I start sending troops to the front lines. The island with Fred is too tough a nut to crack, and we had a few demonstrators, so I made peace with Fred.

As for every city in the empire, except for a few (like York) we're building work crews to get those rails in.

Turn 2 was basically as quick troop movement to Alex's borders...this should be fun.

Turn 3 saw a quick declaration of war against Alex, and, he's responding as expected. The plan is a triple threat from Athens, Sparta and Stuggart. Converge at Ephesus then march north and finish him off. The rail is also done and London will start the Pentagon in 4 turns.

Turn 4 and 5 saw us taking the city known as nightmare in Greek...and the greeks saw one when we won a Cannon vs Rifleman battle at 3% or so odds. Anyway, all proceeds according to plan.

Turns 6 to 7 saw us getting Sci Method by trade...meow. The effect of losing the libiary had a significant effect. Even more unnerving was that Wang would not trade Communism. Oh dear. Someone's building the Kremlin.

Turn 8 to 10: The war goes well...and Communism is in sight. So is the end of Alex, the start of the Kremlin and the Pentagon.
