Rnes8: Run for President

the game starts going on wednesday (ie tomorow), anyone signed up by then i will place on the map (if they're the only person with their home state they're winning it now) and then first turn ends on friday, so i will need first orders from everyone by then.

remember, your orders need to include:
how you're spending your 16 hours (in whole hours). how many hours in which states. an wheather its campaigning or fundraising (i seriously suggest campaigning only for first turn, get some serious support, then start earning money)
if you're spending any money in any state, then how much and where.

remember, all you need is to spend the most time or money in a state to "win" it, so even spending 1 hour in a state will get you a good chunk of its votes if noone else goes there this turn.
same for money, if you're the only one to spend money in a state, even 1 dollar will go a long way (though you do need existing in the state to get anything for spending money there)

so my suggestions would include:
spread your time around, but spend enough time in the states you realy want to win in to beat the other candidates. its better to get 1st place in 16 small states that noone else went to, then to get 1st place in one big state where others will get 2nd and third (so your win margin isnt that big anyway)

spend money in your own state to get more support there (as little as 1 dollar will increase your hold on the state by 30% if noone else spends money in your state), or spend in other people's home states so that they DONT get more support there by spending only small amounts of their money.

updated the electoral map with everyone's colors and home states. if anyone's color is not what they meant/intended/wanted, tell me, but i gotta warn you, when working with gifs mspaint dont give too many options for colors, and i gotta stick with them (cause i need to be able to use the fill tool), so you may be stuck with a color you dont quite like, but i'll try my best.

edited the 5th post with info on some of hte bigger states. i thought i had done this when i first posted the game, but must have forgoten.

Rockefeller Tours Neighboring States

ki0b271k.jpg

CHARLESTON, WV- Presidential candidate Governor Mark Rockefeller toured the three neighboring states of New Jersey, Maryland, and West Virginia, in attempt to reach out to Rockefeller's base of moderate voters. Rockefeller held a rally in Charleston, West Virginia, where he promised to make the fight against poverty a central issue in his campaign, and if elected, his administration. Declaring that his administration would "beat poverty in the 21st century," he said that his economic team was analyzing plans to increase the minimum wage nationally. Citing the growth of the minimum wage by 50 cents in Pennsylvania, he said that by putting more money in the hands of low-income families, that consumer growth would benefit tremendously. But the last part of his speech was what audience members said influenced them the most. Rockefeller said, "But will this attention to poverty be sustained or transient? That depends on our leaders—whether we step up and sustain our moral commitment as the country’s conscience would naturally want us to do. I hope we all do. Stand with me today and pledge to work for an America that doesn’t ignore those in need and lifts up those who wish to succeed. Pledge to hold your government accountable for ignoring the suffering of so many for far too long. And pledge to do your part to build the America that we have dreamed of – where the bright light of opportunity shines on every person – an America where the family you are born into, or the color of your skin, will never control your destiny. Thank you."

SENATOR McCLELLAN BEGINS TOUR OF PACIFIC COAST;
GOVERNOR MAXWELL SMART BEGINS NEW ENGLAND TOUR

ASSOCIATED PRESS

CA, NY - Today began the kickoff tours of the McClellan/Smart 2024 Presidential campaign. In an interesting strategy, the McClellan campaign has decided to split the Senator and the Governor, so that both may begin rallying their constituents on both sides of the nation. Governor Smart has begun a tour of New England while Senator Julien McClellan begins his tour of the pacific coast. However, in each separate tour, both candidates are making sure that the people know whom they are running with. The Federalist party itself is a moderate party, both for economic conservatism and social liberalism. In this regard, the McClellan campaign conforms quite deeply with party lines, as it was the Senator who formed the party, a party which by now has come to dominate most of California politics. Governor Smart, though facing stronger opposition in New York, where several candidates have begun campaigning, is doing well for the Federalists in his home state, and the party is also faring well in many New England States.

Both McClellan and Smart have begun the campaign with hard-hitting messages on the toughest of issues, and each began their separate tours with strong, poignant speeches. Both speeches carry with them a heavy emphasis on national unity and the need for reform, reform and reconstruction. The main focus of the McClellan campaign has thusfar been centered on economic and governmental reform, which the Presidential candidate has quoted as "essential for our great nation and its people if we wish to face up to the challanges which the future shall present." McClellan has also been strong in his message for the need of a strong, stable government in these times of confusion, and for the need of a responsible, fiscally conservative economic policy, to slowly reverse the deficits created by past administrations.

"What we need now, my friends, is not a government which shall waste your money, and spend it all away, what we need now is a government that shall hold itself accountable, and that shall trim the fat off of our current budget, while maintaining the services which you, the people, have come to expect from us, your benefactors, your servants in the federal government. What we need is a government that will work for you!" He remarked, to enthused crowds in San Francisco.

"It is a government's supreme duty, in my opinion, to serve and cater to the needs and desires of its people and listen to them - for that is a democracy, the central idea on which this nation is founded.

That government, my friends, will be a Federalist Government."

OFFICIAL SONG OF THE McCLELLAN/SMART CAMPAIGN
The Times They are A Changing - Bob Dylan

This song has been chosen by the McClellan/Smart campaign as the official campaign song. It is a timeless classic, composed by a timeless legend, Bob Dylan. Federalist officials believe it sums up the state of the nation and the reform minded Federalist party quite well, and such song has been in heavy circulation throughout party gatherings, speeches, rallies, and televised/broadcast advertisements. McClellan, a devoted Dylan fan, also keeps the song in heavy circulation in his iPod.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Liberals Reach out to Minority Community of Louisiana
Mayor Patrick Daley is taking a tour of southern states with high minority populaions as of the publication of this article. His main target is New Orleans and Louisiana where the minority population, though doing better after the reconstruction of 2005, are still the least integrated and most poor in the country. He will also be targeting Louisiana's catholic majority which is expected to support Daley because of his Irish Catholic background and Polish Catholic support. He will also be compaining in other Southern states.

Orders sent. Fundraising and campaigning all in the same states (if I understood correctly, you can't spend money on a state with no followers.)

RoddyVR- You forgot to give Rhode Island a vote amount.
oops. you're right. will fix. i believe that its 3 votes (talk about SMALL state), but it may be 4 so i'll check first.

you can spend money anywhere, you just wont gain anything even if you "win" the money race in a state where you dont have any folowers yet. you could hamper someone else's gains though.

added Rhode Island's number to the map (it turned out to be 4).

As it is now Wednesday, the game is officialy started, and you all now have till friday (meaning i'll do update friday, could be friday morning) to send your orders:
All those that do not send orders will be considered to be spending all 16 hours campaigning in their home state.
oh, during the course of hte game i will NOT post who i'm still missing orders from in the thread (so that others wont find out that a certain person is repeating their last turn) so if you can include in your orders (or on the thread) what is the best way to remind you to send orders, that would be great. i'll do PMs as a default, but if some people prefer email or something i can do that.
