PRE:
We have 2 settlers out, but none building. We are down Map and CoL. 90% taxes and +15gpt, that bodes ill for any research. We are -29gpt on support and have about 7 Legions and a cat going.

We also will start getting AC's. Cash will be a huge issue.

Lets see if we can improve our lot a bit. I switch Cumae from Lib to settler losing 5 shields.

ToA is done by Inca in Cuzco, so two others will switch to something. Smoke will probably go for the GW. I don't know how much they have into or how many shields they make, but I doubt we can beat them if they do switch.

I move a legion out of Cumae to cover the spear group. I do not trust spears to do the job on flat ground. They can, but they don't always.

For now I switch Antium from worker. Antium will grow to size 7 if we let it so we gain unit support. It currently makes the most shields. We can decide what it should build in a few turns. Mean time I will get a worker out of another town.

Neapolis is that town. It is making a cat, so that is not a huge loss and it makes the worker in 3 turns and will grow in 3 turns.

IBT:
Byz completes the Great Lighthouse.
Smoke switches to GW and completes it, wow.

170BC (1):
I met the Hittites and make this deal. Monarchy for Map Making, CoL and 13 gold and now we are caught up and I DOW.

Met Inca and trade Monarchy for 50 of their 53 gold.
Met Alex and trade Write for 30 of his 33 gold.

We got a break in that Cleo is the only one making the GLB and she is some where close. The bad news is we have 3 more nations to send troops. At
least we gained 2 techs and some gold.

eLegion out of Berlin kills Inca warrior and we gain two slaves (1-0).
Two eLegions kill units at Mauch Chunk (3-0). Wall from GW made this harder.
Legion kills Egyptian archer (4-0).
Legion kills archer at MC and it autorazed for 1 gold and a slave (5-0).
He has an archer on either side.
Legion kills German archer (6-0).
eLegion kills German archer (7-0). Gets a leader and creates Legion-2nd.

IBT:
Legion is attacked by Cleo's archer and goes elite. Second archer goes down as well (2-0) [9-0].

150BC (2):
Getting popular now as I met Brennus and trade Monarchy for 60 of 63 gold. Barely got in 1 turn and have 4 new friends.

Lucky 3/5 Legion kills German archer on mountain (1-0).
We have 240 gold, so we are in good shape and I up research to 40% for a -3gpt. This cuts time from 46 to 22 turns. We need to get to the Middle Age and build Sun Tzu. It will make life much easier and it will save a ton of gold.

I switch Antium to GLB as a place holder for it. By the time we get to the end of the GLB we should be able to switch to at least a palace. Right now the palace takes less shields than the GLB, but more towns will change that. I hope in time.

Wait the cost of Fued is about twice that of Currency, so I am not sure about getting a large enough palace in time. I go ahead and switch back to the Legion and we can start on the pre a bit later.

1st kills warrior so we can send the two slaves from Berlin back to the core (2-0) [11-0].
Move a legion to intercept the Celt combo.

IBT:
MW attacks the legions on the old Mauch Chunk site and we get an elite (1-0) [12-0]
Henry wants peace. Your mommy.

130BC (3):
I met Shaka and more or less give him Monarchy for his last 14 gold. So many know it may as well get what I can. Must be about the 6th new friend I have made so far.

I guess we are looking like chumps, because Alex sends in two settler pairs and Brennus sends in one? I fill the 2nd.

SORRY I forgot to mention the founding of Viroconium either last turn or the one before on the Incense. Just waiting to get the road up. I am chopping first to speed the wall.

1st kills an archer from Hiawatha and moves to cover a settler (1-0).

Legion kill warrior/settler Alex sent us (2-0).
Karakorium has two irrigated grass tiles? I hope the AI did that. I start to mine one of them. First AC rolls out and kills an archer (3-0).

I am sending the 3 damaged Legions that took Mauch Chunk back home to heal and cover the expected new comers.

eLegion kill archer (4-0).
1st kills a Bismark archer and spots another settler combo, but cannot reach them (5-0).
Legion struggles to take Greek combo and then I realize they have Hoplites (6-0). Two more slaves.
Legion kills German archer (7-0).
Legion kills Celt spear and takes the settler (8-0) [19-0].
I moved the last settler out toward Berlin to found a town next to the wheat. We are getting exposed, but two armies will help, I hope.

IBT:
Nothing except Bismark wants peace, his momma.

110BC (4):
Start an archer for now in Vico. We can switch it, if something else turns out to be more useful or use it as a cheap MP for the core.

Veli need a specialist, till we get our road up. OK, I got the road now, so back to work. Belay that, I drop lux to zero and set research to 50% at -8gpt. Now I have to go back to the beaker head. Drop Current by 4 more turns. The bad news is Veli is not growing, till we get some water on a tile.

Found Lutetia and shave to -5gpt.
Found Byzantium and start a warrior for cheap MP. -1gpt now.
Ragnar shows up with a sword.

Our next town would be good next to the iron. It is on a river and we will need iron.

1st kill Hiawatha's settler combo, but I am not sure we can get the slaves home (1-0).
2nd kills 2 of Cleo's archers (3-0).
eLegion kills Iroq archer (4-0).
eLegion kills the sword and ends next to another Celt settler pair (5-0). [24-0]
Send the slave home, I hope.

IBT:
Slave grabbed, will get them back. Several swords show up. Note we were not going to lose the slaves as no troops were visible, so the only one that could come out of the fog had to be Bismark and he would not kill his own.

90BC (5):
2nd kills archer (1-0).
eAC kils Mongol archer (2-0).
eLegion kills archer, Iroq I think (3-0) [27-0].

IBT:
2 MW's attack a 4/5 Legion and he retreat the first and kills the 2nd (2-0) [29-0]

70BC (6):
Well I need to take more care now that MW are lurking.
There must be some swell resource as the Celts send two more settler pairs into our land. One lead by a warrior. A regular no less.

Legion kills warrior for two more slaves (1-0).
1st kills Egyptian settler combo and starts back with 4 slaves (1-0).
Met Montie and trade Myst for 10 and DOW now 14 nation iirc.
I see two settlers escorted by Aztec warriors. So many settlers I cannot kill them all.

eLegion kills one of the pairs (2-0).
Red line an Egyptian archer. Legion kills it (3-0).
Kill celt spear/settler (4-0).
Switch the archer at Vico to barracks. [33-0]

IBT:
Super Legion takes on 2 archers, the second while red lined and goes 2 for 2 (2-0) [35-0]

50BC (7):
More units coming from several directions, getting quite busy and have to risk units to counter.
eLegion and vLegion kill Vike swords at Hisp (2-0).
No one has Currency so far, but once it is known things will get uglier. The science nations will get those free techs and gain pikes, bridges, MDI and soon Knights. Need more towns and armies.Legion kills warrior/settler and goes elite (3-0).

eLegion kills Inca settler pair and gets a leader. Form 3rd.
1st kills German archer and moves onto road with the slaves (4-0).

I wonder if the reason the settlers come in our land is that there is not much land elsewhere? At least I have not had to build workers for now as we are getting so many slaves.
[39-0]

30BC (8):
I guess we will have to worry about HG and GLB losers switching to Sun Tzu. I hope both are done before anyone learns Fued, but someone is sure to get it for their free tech. I can't decide if I should start the Pentagon or wait for a leader.

I think I will start it in Cumae next turn after the Legion finishes.
Rats, Legion kills a spear, but ends up next to 3 units. Two archers and a spear, Could be a beating coming (1-0).
Legion kills Mongol horse (2-0). [41-0]

10BC (9):
No one wanted to attack. Antium starts Pentagon.
Met the Dutch and deal Monarchy for 20 gold and DOW. We now have 15 friends.

1st kills Egyptian spear (1-0).
2nd kills two spears at Abydos (3-0).
3rd (2 man) kills Dutch spear and get 2 slaves (4-0).
Legion kills hop/settler (5-0).
Legion kills Vike sword (6-0) [47-0].

10AD (9):
Four settler pairs roaming around right next to us, probably cannot get them all.
2nd kills archer and autorazes Abydos for 2 gold (1-0).
I am making a road in the trees at Lut as I did not want to chop them, because the wall will finish without the shields. We can chop for the rax.

NOTE I left the settler to move to what ever location is chosen. One spot is on the river near the iron.

Legion kills warrior/settler (2-0).
Two eLegions kill archers (4-0).
Legion kills another Arabian archer (5-0).
eLegion kills MW (6-0).
3rd kills Dutch settler pair (7-0) [54-0].
It needs a third unit. Sorry all armies are in need of healing.

We should try to push out a settler or two after the next builds complete in the town that is growing the best. We now have 48 slaves and 8 workers.

Sounded like an interesting turnset.

An a rather successful one, when I judge by the kill ratio.

I can take it today to try to keep the pace up, unless C-Bob wants it. I can play weekends or weekdays, and I know others are more of weekend warriors. If we don't get a got it this afternoon, I will play.

It's yours, Overseer. I've got to do taxes this evening after church.

Hmm I still believe we shoudl turn Rome into a SF.

And we should conquer GW from the Iros.

OK, will begin play soon. The GW would be nice, but maybe not this turn-set. I think I'll see what shows up as I play. I will probably play 12 turns, which will even things up. Wish me luck....make that wish me good luck, as the RnG likes vmxa much more than it does myself.

We will get it from Smoke, not Hiawatha. Smoke is the Mayan leader. The problem is that for any completed wonder, we know the town, but as yet we do not know where the town is located.

Settler factories don't really exist in AW, unless it is a real easy game. You are hard pressed to let a core town stop production of troops for long. It is even hard to prebuild in them.

We will get most of our settlers from slack towns that will take a long time to make a settler, unless rushed. We can squeeze out one from a good town from time to time.

IIRC Rome does not even have a big food surplus or a granary so it will not grow all that fast. If we could get one of the towns with wheat to crank some out in say 8 or 10 turns, that would be nice.

I started a worker on one of the polluted grass tiles in the hopes we could get that tile up and keep it for a long time. We need all those polluted tiles. Tiles are just to hard to come by in the core to let it sit.

I also put one slave on a hill to mine it as we need the shields and can spare a slave.

OK, will begin play soon. The GW would be nice, but maybe not this turn-set.

Guys did you see my log? Smoke has finished the GW. All my talk about it is moot now, till we take it from him. The only wonder I am hoping we can build is Sun's.

We can take GW and Glib. Memphis should not be far away, so hope Cleo is first to it. I have no idea how far off Smoke lives. I don't recall seeing any of his units, so it cannot be all that close.

The Great Wall is too far away to grab, Hiawatha owns it. The GLib is still being built, so its location is TBD. I would bet most will be out of our reach anytime soon. As far as Settlers go, Rome is perfect if it has a Granary, so I will slip one in the queue.

Guys did you see my log? Smoke has finished the GW. All my talk about it is moot now, till we take it from him.

I think this confused us:

"Two eLegions kill units at Mauch Chunk (3-0). Wall from GW made this harder."

Exactly, the Iros have walls and so I assumed Hiawtha has built it. If this is the case, we should make him the next target once the german countires are relatively secure. We might not see the city now, but it will be easy to find. It still might not be the following turnset, but should define the next strategic goal.

If the maya have it, well tough luck.

I'm not quite done playing, but there was good news late, I got 2 consecutive MGLs, one rushed the Pentagon, the other is an empty army, which beggars the question: fill it up with Legions and go whomp on Hiawatha or keep it empty for Maces or fill it with ACs. I like option A, we have plenty of elites and more leaders will occur. Eventually we may have as many armies as we can support and need to capture more towns to allow more armies. The GW can be our next target after I secure a 3rd luxury which I have eyes on. Germany is almost ready to be extinct and the Mongols are close, no hurry on either front. Egypt will need dealt with soon, they are sending lots of Archers our way. It's getting a bit hairy on our north and east. I will finish and post this evening.

Are we that close to Feudalism? I would prefer an army now instead of one in 20 turns. Especially as we will produce leaders en masse.

I think we're 17 turns out from Feudalism, but there will be many elites fighting between now and then, armies are not going to be rare. 4 4-unit armies can go a long ways toward hurting our enemies. I think we are doing well as it is. I've been aggressive on my turn-set, hopefully I haven't overextended us.

I'd say go legion-crazy and fill 'er up. The sooner we can expand the better.

Based on our map location, does it seem like we can clear out a bit of a back door once Egypt and Germany are dead?

I see a coast to our west and northeast, and I think theres little beyond the Iroquois and Hittites to our south. North-northwest are the Vikings, Greeks, Celts and Portugal. South are the Hittites, Sumerians, Zulu and Iroquois, East is Egypt, the Arabs, Aztecs, Inca and Dutch. West lies the pathetic remnants of the Mongols, South is Germany's 2 towns.

I have finished my turnset. It went pretty well. Here is the turn-log:
