I have free time on my hands and all the succesions i am part off are moving very slowly so i thought i would start a new one.

I am not sure about the settings and am open to any suggestions and variants.

Difficulty level will prefferably be Emperor or lower.

Hmm, A AW game with no fast units allowed may be nice. Anyone intrested please post!

I am willing to give it a go, though Emperor might be a bit high for my skill level.

I am presently involved in the "Myth01" regent game. I've made a couple of dumb moves, but all in all, it is going well for us, albeit a bit slowly. :)

I have never played AW so Regent AW with no fast units will be good enough? do you know of any other who might be interested?

Regent, AW, no fast units sounds good to me.
Always War is a lot of fun, even though the first turns of war in Ancient Age can be very nerve wracking.

No fast unit rules out a lot of Unique Units. Not only the Horse based units (Horsesmen, Knights and Cavalry) and the UU that spawn from them (Ansar Warriors, Mounted Warriors, Cossacks and some others) but also Impis, Gaelic Swords and maybe some others.

Normally, no fast units means just foot soldiers in the Army; the Navy is excluded, but I'm not sure about the Air Force.

I'm not sure which civs are left. Rome (Legionaire), Greece (Hoplite), Carthage (Numerian Mercenary), France (Musketeer) and Netherlands (Swiss Mercenary) come to mind, but I know that is not the complete list. Of this short list I would go with Rome since that UU is offensive; the others listed here are defensive. Legionaire needs Iron, so by the time you get Iron connected your empire should be around 10 cities. Your Golden Age will be in Ancient Times, but you can't help that, unless you plan well and get lucky, too.

Rome is one option, but not the only one. Korea has a pretty funky UU that might be fun to play with.

Other things to decide: Map size and Land Mass.

Ok, if I understand right, "no fast units" is a restriction on our play, not the AI's, right?
Yes.

You/we agree to build no land units with a movement greater than 1.

The AI has no such restriction.

I'm too busy to join, but I think that the main civ CBob left out is Persia. The immortal isn't a fast unit, and is more offensive than the legionairre.

lurker's comment: You had better win early, because your best 1 move unit tops out at Marines, whereas the AI could get tanks, mech infantry and modern armor. So what are the rules about bombard units? I can see everything up until Radar Artillery being ok(2 movement points), but what about bombers? What about a navy? Would you only build non bombard types? BTW, I think Persia might be your best bet, the Immortal is a monster, good up to cavalry, and cheap. Other possibilities might be the Maya, Korea, and Rome, all perennial SG favorites with 1 movement UU's.

I think Bombard should be allowed. We hope that the game does not go on till radar art.

Persia is a tried and tested monster, i would rather NOT play them.

France is a Economic Monster, but nothing exceptional which lends itself to AW.

Greece's UU makes us invincible early, For someone who has never played AW they might be a good choice

Korea, their UU's Lethal Bombard is a killer. Surely considering them as well

Rome s UU gives us the hoplite and swordsman all rolled up. With Artillery they can last until Cavalry surely! Another Civ to be considered

Maya- the AWDG guys dont seem to be having luck with Maya, their UU is nothing exceptional except the slaving ability but their traits make them another economic powerhouse

So the Civs we are considering are Rome, Korea, Greece and Maya or French (economic Power)

I would go with either Rome ,Korea or Maya

lurker's comment: BTW, no fast units means that inf. may not be upgraded to mech inf.?

Its a strict rule, no unit with movement > 1 can exist.

Are you interested in playing?

Maybe, I am not good player and if yahya can stand my turns and balablabla type a chat then yeah. But my turns would take least 3 days. And we'd need experienced players. And I have not done AW before, all I know, is that you need catapults and alot of offense.

I too found Rome a better choice than others, their UU can defend our towns, their traits arent too bad and with artillery support, we can produce these cheap UUs and crush our neighbours

I also call for more experienced players!!!!

Lurker:

AWE with no knights or cavs is going to be a lot of work gentlemen. It can be done, but defending is harder and attacking will be slower.

lurker's comment: AW keys on keeping troops alive, not leaving them exposed after an attack. No fast units definitely kicks up the difficulty factor, my recent experience in a Rome game showed that. And another rub... no fast units means no armies. Armies are how we won against technologically superior enemies, without them it's going to takes lots more work. I'm too tied up to play, but I'll be watching.

Then you should try something like a warlord for level.
