I did not get a good chance to look at where our units are at. Time was short, so I focused on getting Steam Power as quick as possible.

I think I can invade Korea during my turns. Or at least get it ready for the next player to invade.

I did not examine worker tasks. I may undo a lot of them next turn in order to get the work gangs arranged for Rapid Railing. We've got to get that Trondheim to Skeet Shoot path improved to rails to let our units move westward quickly.

Any Progress?

Canute II kills a Musket and Spear, leaving an rArcher. Canute II is now 8/13 (2 of 2).

8 1540 AD

We unload our forces onto an isolated hill in Korea. The new Galleons are loaded up and sent overseas.

The captured city of Copan is/has been set to have zero growth; worker/slave in 5.

Now that we have rails to the west coast and rails to the choke point in the east, we begin to rail our core. We have four stacks of railing workers (six workers in each stack), a short stack of three workers, and one worker heading in from the science farms. We also have eight stacks of railing slaves in the core. Six of them are railing flat lands, the other two are working on a hill and forest right now. Out in the east we have a stack of only six slaves that are railing, with a few more on their way to join up with them. Both the worker and slave short stacks are away from the main railing activity, since they will rail slower.

Ah, Korea has Silks around Namp'o, which is just 2NE of where we landed.

In our core I have placed all the spare units, separated by unit type. All Muskets are in one stack, etc. They are on railed tiles. For me, this is just helpful.
[IBT]
Maya land a Knight near Saldae.
The resistance in Chicen Itza is over, thanks to an Army in the city.

9 1545 AD

Monster Hill is cranky; hire a geek; market still in 9.
Hire a geek in Yaxchilan, which grew to 3.

We build Kimchee City in Korea and start a harbor.

Battle of Namp'o (4) of Korea
Unnamed Army of Beserks kills a Pike with minimal damage, but does not capture the city (6 of 7).
We leave 2 Muskets fortified in Kimchee City, everybody else heads towards Namp'o and hides under the unnamed Army.
We unload eight more units into Kimchee City (4 Mace, 3 Beserk and 1 Crusader).
These units move to the hill 1N of Pusan. Pusan has a harbor, so it would be nice if we could capture it next turn and not have to rush the harbor in Kimchee City.

Defense of Saldea (1)
We have a Mayan vKnight on the mountain to the NW, a worker due north of the city and a vBeserk in the city. We have city walls and are on grass. If we attack, the odds are even: 6 attack vs. 6 defense. If we defend, at best it is also even: 4 attack vs. 2 x 1.85 (city walls, fortified and grass) = 3.7 .
We attack and lose (6 of 8).
We have no more defenders in the city, so we abandon it.

In other combat, we lose a Frigate to an Ottoman Galley (6 of 9). I sure did not expect that result.

We build Geeks 4 Hire 2 SE of Birka.

We land a Crusader, Mace and Musket south of Dzibilchaltun, the current Mayan capital.

We hire a 2nd geek in Chichen Itza and then rush the slave for 20 of 334 gold.

Our Galleons, returning from Korea, don't quite make it into Rusaddir. But we are able to load them anyway. One Musket Army, 4 cannons, 4 Mace, 2 Settlers and 1 Musket load into 3 Galleons and 1 Caravel.

Bergen (10) vBeserk -> Market in 4, to help with happiness. We have hired two clowns here to keep the locals happy.
Gap Closer grew to 8; new citizen became a taxman automaticly, taxman -> geek.
Hire 2 geeks in Gold mine 2.
Thunderfall Hills hires a geek for happiness sake.
Reeky Fish hires 2 geeks.

314 gold, -22 gpt, Electricty in 3 turns.

rSpear 1/3 now guards the city.

Geeks Anonymous hire 2 geeks.

319 gold, -19 gpt, Electricty in 2 turns.

Kimchee City Area
T1550_KimcheeCityArea.jpg

We have Dyes connected at Namp'o, but we need a harbor to connect them to Trondhiem. The attack on Pusan failed, so we did not gain that harbor. I did not rush the harbor in Kimchee City. It will cost 116 of 319 gold. I think we should rush it, but I'll leave that decision to the next player.

Once we get Replaceable Parts (next turnset), we can begin to upgrade our Cannons to Artillery, which will help us conquer. Artillery's range of 2 is so very, very nice. :D

Once we get to Replaceable Parts I think we should consider cutting off research. This will give us cash for upgrades (Artillery, Guerillas and Infantry). The next big techs that could help are Industrialization (factories) and Combustion (transports). Industrialization is a deriative of Steam Power, so we could grab it rather fast. Combustion is five techs away from where we are now. By the time we learned it the game will be almost over.

We had some units on Automove from the previous turnset; two settlers and a caravel. These units were fortified and left in place.

We have three settlers on the move in Geek Land, looking to build more homes for the despised and socially akward guys with dark-rimmed glasses. One is in Geek Desert, another in Geeks R Us and the third is 2NW of Geeks on a Hill.

We have a Viking worker in Skeet Shoot that will need a task next turn. I would join him to the short stack of 3 Viking workers SW of Middleton, just to keep them together. That is not very efficient; it will still take 2 turns to rail a flatland.

The short stack of slaves is 1S of Gap Closer. It has seven slaves right now, with more coming up from Old Maya. My plan was just to add the extra slaves into this stack until it got to 12, and then start a new stack. Easy to manage, but not the best way to work the slaves.

We have four settlers 1W of Wild Wild West, earmarked as combat settlers. Mentally, any settler east of Sugar Choke I planned to use in warfare, and they came here. Any settler produced west of Sugar Choke went to become part of our science farm.

What? We have an eGalley asleep in Twofer Town and two rGalleys dozing in Hilltop Beaches. These need to awakened and upgraded next turn.

If we could get those upgraded and over to Rusaddir, we could be shipping units across to Korea every turn. That is, they would be arriving in Korea every turn.

We should consider sending some Viking Workers to Korea, to rail, once we get a harbor in Korea. Workers will need less cargo space than slaves, so we can send more fighting units across (and back) later.

Overseer is UP!

I don't know if we need Transports. Regular Units and Artillery should be enough to get us the Domination Victory.

A curious fact. this game has been playing for almost 115 game hours. (114:46:58 IIRC)

I was just checking on how things were going and CAII had that tally. It is amazing to me because I get bored at around 15 hours on my single games.

Lurker:

That time is not how much you played, it is how long the game was up. I will have massive hours on my game, because I leave it up and go to dinner, store, movie, watch tv, you name it. The clock is running the whole time.

yes, I know that. In fact it was that realization that got me to turn the game off when I go out as some of my games got to the unheard of time of 25  hours.

I just thought it was an interesting fact is all.

And I will surf this forum while I play, plus check e-mail, look at the Oblivion forum, etc. I do play slow anyway, and multi-tasking makes it worse. I shocked myself by finishing the most recent COTM in only 16+ hours. Oh, and I will pick the save up and begin play hopefully this evening.

Any Progress?

I ended up finishing a solo 20k game first, (which went very well, scored over 8000 points) so I've been slightly delayed. I'm getting started now.

I ended up finishing a solo 20k game first, (which went very well, scored over 8000 points) so I've been slightly delayed. I'm getting started now.
That is a Victory Condition I haven't tried yet. I need to, just haven't.

20k takes work, luck and concentration. And a near perfect starting spot, with food, shields, commerce, a seacoast to get the Colossus and a river to allow growth. Almost better as an 1CC or 5CC. I lacked several of those, and ended up finishing in 1951.

I have finished. Butts were kicked, towns were settled. We are now at 37% territory. I am running several near core towns on settlers to help fill the empty areas. We are also about ready to cross the channel, this time to stay! Here is my turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-Flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Open the save, look things over. Everything is in good shape. Do a few tweaks here and there. Rush the harbor in Kimchee City, even if we take Pusan next turn, I want a Harbor that is ours.

Hand-off: Korea is likely 1CC, they should be easy meat. I started Newtons, but it could easily be turned into the Military Academy. We can return to the other continent in force, and with Infantry and Artillery, enemy cities should fall easily. I think played right, we should hit Domination within 6-10 turn-sets. I think we should raze and replace, to avoid flips. Looks like we can really start romping once we get the Cannons and Muskets upgraded.

The save:
