Role Play Challenge: Bismark the Master Builder

Thanks for the great write-up madscientist. I enjoyed reading it!

Any ideas on what you will do for the next RPC?

Any ideas on what you will do for the next RPC?

Thanks for the feedback. Ideas for the nest RPC from my previous posts

I'll take a break for a while but I think I got ideas for at elast 2 more RPC's

A religious economy with Saladin. He's get's very little respect as a leader but I think he is a complete monster for a religious economy which fuels either a space race win or culture.

THe other I am working the bugs out and not even sure which leader although one does come to mind. More light hearted, similar to the Washington game. THe Mad Scientist (yes, my namesake, how could I have waited do long), looking to run a strictly science game for a space win, but with an evil twist to rule the world (No George Bush is not a leader in the game) with some rather insane rules. Only one I can think of as appropriate, MONTEZUMA, the complete nut case AI!!!! If anyone has suggestions on rules for such a game, please let me know. I would be running it as an SE.

Looking for all and any ideas on the "Mad Scientist" angle

For the "Madscientist game", a possible rule could be that any time you make a significant weapon related scientific discovery, it must be thoroughly tested on unwilling subjects.

"Hmm, I wonder if these new bombs that split the atom will explode Russian people? Let us experiment!!!"

You could also take an anti-religion angle as a mad scientist, going to any lengths necessary to keep religion out of your cities. How this would translate to in-game rules would be up for discussion I suppose.

Ideas for a "MONTY the MAD SCIENTIST'

1) Can only run scientist specialists

2) Cannot build World Wonder that generate non-scientist GP points (OK, beside the Great Library what other wonders produce GS points). All national wonder would still be in play.

3) Adopt no state religion. I like the idea of adopting theocracy to avoid new religion spread, but keeping it out at the beginning is impossible. FR ASAP. Anyway I can start a game with the theocracy civic inplay?

4) Great Scientists can only build academies. No bulbing and no settling.

5) Writing (libraries), Education (Universities), Astronomy (OBservatories), and superconductors (Labs) MUST be researched next once the tech opens up.

As far as AI relations, looking how a mad scientist would fit in. Some ideas

1) Every outdated military must be upgraded, sent to war, or deleted once a replacement in underway. Example once we have Fuedalism we can keep one archer in each city until longbows are built OR we can upgrade them OR we can send them to a broder for an upcoming war. Exceptions are War elephants and Machine guns which are rather unique units.

2) Once a new age of warfare starts (Classical = construction, middle ages emachinery and civil service, Renasance = rifling, industrial = industrialization, manhatten project = modern) Mobilization for war must begin and follow soon after.

Victory conditions would be only 2, World domination or Space Race.

Any other ideas? I got a while to start thus but looking for ideas.

I forgot to add this strange/fortunate event to my write up, I acuaully popped 2 Aluminium resources on the one turn, and they were side by side in the mines..:crazyeye:

Now I had to do a double take, when I read the event's log, and I checked the location, and sure enough, 2 mine of aluminium...woow wowwie..

Oh yes, popped coal, in my original lands, but I think I said that, popped a few other resources over the course of the game, gold, silver, gems, iron, copper AND 2 ALUMINIUM IN SAME TURN:confused: :crazyeye:  :goodjob:

I just had to mention it.....

Ideas for future game, the Scientist one, Run only science specialists, all other great people are to be Euthanasied...ie killed. Cultural slider is NOT TO BE USED. All science building to be built in all cities, *that's a gimmie*, Must be first to Physics (free great scientist, what else) Must build Pyramids and adopt Representation (for the science bonus). Must build/controll ALL GSP producing building (Great Scientist Point)

The religion game, Hmm No trading/open boarders with heathen's (ie differnent religion=No contact), Adopt and stay in Theoracy, build all great profit poducing wonders. Ony to run Preist specialist only, all others to be Euthanasied (killed again), Temples built in all cities and the 3 temple building to be built in every 3rd city. Maybe a monastry requried in ALL CITIES. Apolotic palace MUST BE BUILT/CONTROLLED.

I'd add must Found all religions, but that's near enough to impossible. So maybe must control all religions and build all holy building, and spread religion to all cities...(Impossible...maybe/maybe not)

Victory, when all religions controlled and spread, and controll all priest GPP producing buildings.

These are really great threads. It is also appealing to see how these variations work, and then applying to less rigid games and seeing how they augment various economies, etc.

I think for Monty we also need to look at slavery and sacrificial altars. Though barbaric in real-life, having Monty without forcing slavery and the whips, etc., doesn't seem right for an RP perspective. Maybe certain buildings need to be whipped regardless of circumstance? Transitioning to new eras requires whipping = sacrifices to dawn a new age?

Not a bad idea, at least up to emancipation (I still want to win). Perhaps a rule that Libraries and Universities must be built ASAP, via the whip. The problem is the alter requires CoL which requires writing which unlocks libraries. Sort of the chicken and the egg thing.

Or perhaps libraries can be built conventionally but need to be whipped one CoL gets out. Also, I plan NOT to found any religions so I cannot beeline CoL. Hmmmm

LOL... hadn't even thought of that one. Not sure founding a religion is that big of a deal... adopting it, building the shrine, etc., is the part that doesn't work too well versus the rules you were discussing IMHO.

I am not sure CoL would be a big priority anyway for old MAd Monty. Not state religion or shrine so founding Conf does not help (except keeping it from an AI).

Caste system? Come on, Monty loves slavery and his alters will turn red. Nope no caste system.

Alters. Yeah, but not sure if it's worth it. I think Math/Construction/HB/IW would be higher priorities. We want some good warfare, how else would such a scientific genius prove himself.

Hell this game sounds like fun, I may bump it ahead of Sal's religious quest.

Agree on Caste System (don't know enough about Aztec culture really to argue anyway ;) )...

I think Monty's love of slavery and his UB go hand-in-hand particularly when you're talking RPC vs. ALC. Most whippers are good enough at it where whipping has little to no impact, but being able to whip every 7-8 turns as opposed to 15 turns seems to have nice, valuable synergy.

Last thought: IIRC Aztecs were notorious for wiping out tribes, etc., that they had defeated. Might be fun to have a razing cities piece to this. It will make your expansion in the game more challenging. Obviously, the rules make these games difficult to begin with, so don't want to make the game impossible.

I did the city razing deal with the Ghengis Kahn game.

Also with the alters and Monty's lov of the whip I think it's fairly easy to whip cheap alter into new cities and absorb them. The mroe cities the higher the science rate, which is Mad Monty's ultimate goal.

Well played, I just realized I had never read this one before!

Thankyou. Something for the Builder, the warrior, and the diplomat! Still my favorite!

I should play the RPC's that emphasize SE and WE, because I really don't know how to run them as well as I can fight. It'd probably help me a lot. If I have a lot of time this summer (and I might) I'll probably go back to old games like this one, or mimic them myself with a leader like roosy. We'll see.

(commerce will be lacking for a while so we shoudl wait on BW).

This statement caught my eye. I'm curious what commerce has to do with whether to research BW.

Also, why were horses such a priority? Are Chariots that important, especially when you've got bronze closer than horses? I understand the value of the city for blocking purposes, but you seem to have been more concerned with the horses.

I'm not criticizing here, just curious what your thought process is.

The game was played awhile ago, but I think I can remember after reviewing it

1) Lacking Commerce: Berlin was set from the start as a mega production/wonderspam city. No coastal tiles besides 1 shore (1 food all game) and a lake, will hills and farms commerce needs to come from the second/third city. Greta for building wonder except teching enough to open up the wonders was an issue. Delaying BW allowed us to tech pottery, fishing (future cities), writing. I do not recall how long I actually delayed it, but not much.

2) Copper was further away from us that the horses which we on a river with two gems. Although iron was nearby, we did not know that once we settled the horses.

3) Why I wanted horses? Planning future wars as I was pretty certain we would lose the GLighthouse race, and we also lost the Great Wall early.

Hope this answered your questions!!!
