Role Play Challenge: Brennus, A Simple Man

Posts crossing in the night. See my edited post above. Not CoL,but Med must be avoided (it's a pre-req for Phil), along w/ CS and Theo.

well i tried this game and found myself bored to death at 600ad (normal speed).

i wasnt out-teched since i was runnning 2 scientist in every city and had currency and whipped markets for some cash and merchants. But that drove me to have no army and be bored to hell...The inability to build wonders is a true handicap. Im done with this RPC...

You know what would be nice for a RPC? An actual scenario such earth or europe game. Play a civ among those found on these maps. Deity Rome on earth map is fun

not accusing, just promoting caution, it can take a really long time to recover the economy without cottages, especially if you don't have currency yet, it'll take a long long time to research.

Just poking fun at myself. These RPCs tend to get economically out of hand. THe last one with Joao running -41 gold @ 0% science cslider 1 turn before the FP was built and we got a GM trade mission comes to mind!!!

I play the maps as they come. Some games are exciting, some are not. At 2000 BC I'll excite myself. Unlike my off-line games I can save and post, this usually avoids the boredom.

Diety, good lord I can barely beat Emperor when I play full speed. JC playing an earth map may be somewhat appealing but doesn't have that "distortion" of history that's usually part of my RPCs!

You can research CoL, if you dont have Meditation, Philosophy wont be avaliable.

OK, the big guy's got it. No thinking, aka, meditiation. He's happy with that!!!! Courthouses with Lawyers are good, thinking bad. Yep, sounds right to me.

Lying through your teeth is thinking? I suppose. :crazyeye:

You are in a serious bind dood. Your lands call for cottages but your rules say you can't make them. 'K. The alternative is farms but for that you need CS. :scan:

I agree that the land is really going to test his 'farm economy', but I think he might be alright if he does a few key things. For one, I'd definitely prioritize fishing so your cities have at least some food to play with; there are a few really nice spots that could be settled and run 2 scientists once a library is up. This means you should beeline writing after fishing to get libraries up ASAP. Otherwise, I see no way the tech rate will remain respectable.

After this is done, I'd go after IW to see if you have any metal, and also to clear away the jungles to the south. Whether or not you have any iron, I'd start building an army to take down Elizabeth -- Like it or not, she just has to go since her land is much more workable than the wastelands up north. It's far from ideal going to war, but it needs to be done IMO. With her out of the way, it should be a bit easier to maintain a tech rate with the southern grasslands, not to mention the gems :). Curious to see how you play this one out, since it looks like a tough roll...

The problem with the game so far is that Brennus only has one AI to play with. :trouble::trouble::trouble::trouble:

Brennus, A Simple Man: Part II

Well, Farms and Mines limits our options on developing a strategy to win. So we are going with a rather simple game plan.

:trouble:

But first, Brennus is delighted at this news

BrenB0000.jpg

Yes, apparently the Celtics have a full 7 points on teh advanced scale. Obviously, Brennus is the Smartest leader of all!!!

After this, Brennus clearly states the tech plan

IW/writing/masonry/sailing

THe build order this segment was basically 1 settler, a pair of archers, a pair of barracks, and chariots. Then more chariots. In fact, Brennus became infatuated with these chariots races he decided to bring the game to the English people.

But before that

Our third settled city

BrenB0001.jpg

Food and production, the rest can wait.

And a full view after teching IW

BrenB0002.jpg

Danged. If we setteld in palce we woudl have it now. Oh well. Apparently Liz doesn't have any either. By the way Brennus is none too bright. THen again the way the game went, Liz is none too bright either.

OK, let's get serious and bring these chariot games to England.

BrenB0003.jpg

Liz has three cities (we scouted her after getting open broders, but apparently NOT enough as you will see.

First York.

BrenB0004.jpg

We razed it. Off the river, totally useless at the moment.

we run towards London and even though we know Liz had Copper, we also know London is on flat land!!!! we find out

BrenB0005.jpg

ONE PIECE of fog on the entire board and it's an Iron source within London's BFC. We found 2 Swordsmen waiting for us, plus an archer, a spear, and an axe.

SO we make camp outside London waiting for reinforcements.

BrenB0005.jpg

With Farms and Mines we certainly can built chariot Superfast!!!!

We make a suicide attack onto London with 12 chariots and 2 archers. AND WON!!!

BrenB0006.jpg

Of course we depleted most of our chariots. Brennus was glum for a bit until we got more chariots and the hroseraces reemerged. We declared peace figuring Liz had a LONG time to eventually get a settler built.

BrenB0007.jpg

I should also mention we had more trouble fighting off Barbarians than Liz as we had no fogbusters, yet no area large enough for a barb city to pop up.

And her eis a view of our capital, farms and mines!!!

BrenB0008.jpg

That's right, keeping it simple.

We then declared war again to simply steal a worker.

BrenB0010.jpg

And declared peace, as we were still building up a force (weakened by barb activity).

we declare a third and final time

BrenB0012.jpg

We razed the city.

BrenB0013.jpg

And final view of the land.

BrenB0014.jpg

OK, Liz is no more. At least we are better than 7th in tech :D

The south has alot of decent land that needs to be chopped out. So I think we que up workers, plant a city along the Vienne/London river to work the already build gems, and start building and teching!!!!

While Brennus is simple, I do have a plan.

We max out the cities.

1 library built for 2 scientists, 1 new city built! We will MAX out the cities for trade routes and commerce. The we build all those buildings we delay, markets/grocers/graneries etc... We have the production, let's leverage it.

Tech?

Pottery for now. Then I say CoL followed by Currency.

ANy suggestions???

Are you allowed to build Research? If you've got nothing but Farms and Mines, don't underestimate it. Besides which, hammers=brains seems to fit the theme. :)

I think, since you may likely hit happiness cap with only farms and mines, that it would be a good idea to use that avoid growth button every now and then.

can you not get to CoL via currency?
if you want to rex all that land building wealth might be the only way to pay for it

To answer some questions

1) NO forrest preserves. Too complicated.

2) Yes, we can and should build beakers or gold (culture too but unlikely we shall need it).

3) HR is an option although I was thinking more along the MC/forge route as we can get 4 happy faces with a forge in each city (gold/gems). Calendar next as we have multiple sugar (the Big guy likes his sweets).

4) Having a continent to ourselves which is pretty decent requires currency/CoL sooner than later. Currency get's us 1 immerdiate commerce per city (no foreign trade at the moment) and CoL get's use courthouses which reduces several gold per city. with the emphasis on mines, this should not be all that difficult to construct quickly.

5) We have time. Right now we are playing an isolated start, and there are two ways to go based on the lonely hearts club. Tech economically/liberalism or tech optics/astronomy. We should have several GSs as we can run 2 per city with all the farms, so we can bulb either routes (just avoid meditation/theology/CS)

So our decision is tech path

CoL > Currency first

Math/Alphabet

Then afterwards

The Joao/Willem path: MC/Compass/Machinery/Optics/Calendar/Astronomy

The Liberalism path: CS/Paper/Philosphy/Education/Liberalism

Now regarding liberalism, we cannot build the Taj, so nationalism is a weaker choice. My guess is we would want Astronomy for free. Which get's us back to Astronomy anyway.

I'd say we want Astronomy because of the simple celtic strategy of "engagement" with other civilizations. Because no Cottages, the need to rapidly invade others (Astronomy) is necessary.
