Role Play Challenge: Cold, Drunken, Viking, Scum

leave it a few turns then attack but 10 is likely to be too many
doing this gives Peter time to move his whole army to the other side of his empire and lose lots of units but not enough time for Will to be overrun or make peace
If he asks you to join in before then you should though

Gotta loves it, what a bunch of drunkards here.

Attack

Wait

Do Both!

Hell, I say open up the bars, split up the troops and mass attack in every dirrection cutting roads, pillaging everything, BURN BABY BURN!!! Then once we tech steel we can focus on taking coastal cities via Naval assaults. The Viking Way!!!

While you can probably get some cash in trades at this point, it will take a good long time to tech steel and upgrade. UNLESS there is a Great Merchant on the horizon....

Still, I'd love to see you wait a few turns for Pete to move some troops and hit from behind quickly.

On an earlier screenshot, you waited for a barb city to grow to size 2 before capturing it. barb cities you can capture without razing at size 1.

Not true. Barb cities (I think) follow the same rules as normal cities for when they are auto-razed. Which means that if it can in some cases be size 1, but most often that means it'll be razed.

I KNOW that Barb cities can be auto-razed at size 1 - I've seen it happen in my latest game with the latest patch.

Cold Drunken Viking Scum: Part V

everyone must forgive me if I am a little chaotic on this segment description. My youngest graduated grammer school yesterday and the household has been a flurry of activity.

Still, plenty of time for celebration and consumption of mush drink, er for Ragnar that is not the child! Nevertheless, Ragnar decided to turn the drunken Beserkers lose and worry about getting cannons to the front later. We did get ALOT of cannons (and cavalry) to the front, but the Viking UU still was the base of capturing cities even with the advent of rifles! Upgrade costs too much gold and Ragnar needs that gold to purchase more booze!

So let's start

First a trade with JC, who seams to be a decent trading partner but is little danger (and has no interesting resources)

And soon before we tech steel we get this request.

How can we rufuse!

Ragna rsends the Vikings off to clear some Turkish lans first.

As you cna see I am always NOT a single stock of Doom guy. We have overwhelming forces, I split it in half sending them NW and SW. The idea is to circle back to clear behind and above us. Ragnar see's bananas has some insane idea that he can also make some alcohol beverage from them. When he fails he is pretty damed IRATE!!

The NE coastal city was razed.

We them recombined the undamaged units and

Vikings can now drown themselves in plenty of SAKE!!!!

We should state our techpath here though: Steel/democracy/rifling/communism (A BIG tech in this game)/physics

We make another trade with JC

Spreading the trades between JC/ABE/Will as much as possible to avoid one getting a tech edge. We are actually doing amazingly well considering teh lack of any beaker producing buildings or scientist specialists.

We popped a GP

Which we used to start a GA

We took peace (Will did so several turns before)

And teched off democracy during teh AG allowing us to change civics without anarchy.

Note nationhood we are running essentially for the gold savings allowing us to keep the slider higher.

ABE has always been a very generous trader.

The good thing is that we have natural oil reserves and are NOT in a position to have to chose between Viking drink and converting it to oil (Not that it's really a choice anyway!).

So Ragnar liquers up the Viking troops again and

Time to completeely cripple the Russian empire

Note we did build the Forbidden Palace in the former Ottoman capital, greatly reducing costs.

The Vikigns are a rather simple people, they essentially rushed the entire stack to the first city they find, reduice, defenses with cannons, clobber the troops with any remaining cannons, and send Beserkers in to capture the city. Crussairs/cavalry were used to pickoff Russian troops in the open and Muskets used to defend newly captured cities. Worked very well

Notice that this city had the Confiscian shrine and kept the market/grocer/bank after capture. An immediate 44gold from the shrine once we come out of revolt.

We come at the Russian core cities

Which we kept. We also revolted to State Property which cut costs even more so!

And here you can see the power graph numbers, showing Viking supremacy!

To be continued...........

Cold Drunk Viking Scum: Part V continued

We attack one more Russian city

Choosing to raze it

And taking peace.

Russia is crippled and no military threat even IF they get Cossacks (why he techs SM while ha can tech rifling is beyond me).

We saved here after one final trade

The GLH did us well, but time to move on!

AS you can see we have taken all the good land from Russian, establishing a great empire. More importantly we cornered the Russian booze market!

Unless we need to for a domination win, I am finished attacking Peter. Time to move onto fresh meat!

Our cities

Note that there is no REAL strong science city but all are contributing decent beakers via the slider. To compensate for the lack or science buildings and loss of the colossus/GLH wonders, we have a very high number of GOOD commerce producing cities. MArkets/Grocers/Banks all contribute to gold edging the slider up. THe FP and state property greatly reduce costs. And also importantly we have two successfully spread shrined holy cities.

Our next target AND the only source of alcohol NOT under Viking control is shown here

Charlemagne is a Hyuan vassal and of course HC controls that one source of rice. The biggest concern I have is that the rice may culture flip to Willem after conquering HC. To combat this I may drag a settler with us and drop him ontop of the resource.

Demogrpahics look really good, #2 in GNP, tops in production.

Diplomacy

Yes a DP with Will, who cna be bribed into attacking HC or Peter.

Techs we are doing fine. And anyone moving ahead of us can be squashed.

And victory conditions.

OK, first things first. We must secure the final Viking alcoholic beverages!.

After that, we can finish off the world for a domination win leaving our friends Willem and Abe alone providing we don't lose that lone rice resource.

So how is our Drunken leader doing!

Who says you can't make hooch out of bananas???

-Banana Alcohol - bananas are allowed to ripe, juiced, then fermented. The beer like beverage, which is low in alcohol content is popular in Eastern and Central Africa.

You could probably distill it to deal with the "low in alcohol content" issue.

What a pleaesant surprise!!! Ragnar is most pleased! :viking::devil:

you can also make booze from fermented milk. You would know this is you let the vikings have libraries

The lack of science buildings gave me an interesting idea for an ecomoy, the $$ economy. Tech to currency and then turn the science slider to 0. Just have markets/grocers/banks in all your cities and produce money. Trade money for techs.

The problem with that is 1 you'll always be behind in techs, and 2 the AI will want a ridiculous amount of gold per tech.

Save added!

The $$ economy has a drawback, you are playing from a position of inferior techs and dependent on teh AI selling techs!

I'd assume there's a ton of natural things you can make drink out of.

Sulla played a variant like this back in the vanilla days.

Nevertheless it was already done......

On topic...

I decided to check the culture screen in the Incan Rice:
Spoiler :

For the ones not used to the culture screen, it shows the extent of the culture spread for each civ ( it is based on the tile culture points, so it will still be there even if there is not a city of that civ nearby.... only killing the civ will erase it ). And the veredict is simple: as the rice has Dutch culture and it is inside the Ollantaytambo cultural reach, it will flip to the Dutch in the moment that Tiwanaku ceases to be Incan.

Willem must die.....

P.S i suppose that you don't want to raze Tiwanaku... it is a shrine after all ;)

I thought the cultural borders didn't move until the end of the turn?
can't you settle in enemy territory when at war as well? or was that onle in civ3?
