Role Play CHallenge: Joao the Restless

Congratulations! Very good playing* from a challenging start and exciting to read. And that final power graph is… - very encouraging!

(*except perhaps I still scratch my head over the reasons that made you place Oporto not on the gold. Well, I did… and I lost**…)

(**because in my game, you see, Justinian and Brennus were both Hindus, while Shaka and Sal were Buddhists, and it was all hack and slash. )

Excellent RPC, these just keep getting better and better!

I look forward to the next one!

Nice game. I had a lot of fun shadowing this map as well (I think I've never completely replayed a map twice before).

NB you reached space two years after I have in my second (successful) installment. I only kept two cities on the motherland, and I turned off Barbarians (which I regretted later, because it's easier with them than without). Eliminating Sury was not really necessary. He was my best buddy throughout the entire game, at some point he loved me more than his own colony...

Here are my save games on the turn before I declare independence and the winning save, as well as a fixed scenario file to replay the map. (You need BUG Mod installed to open the saves, not for the scenario, however.)

Just read the spoilers, alot of them were addressed in the game or by other posters.

NT: Great job winning with a OCC Lisbon game!

Cobgrats to others who shadowed the game!

One question, anybody know why I got Roosevelt as the colonized leader rather than Washington which most others got?????

It seems to go Washington->Roosevelt->... for the player civ, unless other colonies have been founded already by the AI in which case the order seems to change.

In my first game I got Washington. In my second game Sury had founded a colony of his own already (Washington) and there was one other which I can't recall at the moment. I got Qin when I declared independence.

I got Roosevelt too back when i tested out what would have happened if you released the old cities before liberalism.

But isn't it up to the RNG? I know other times if i waited a few more turns before releasing i'd end up wit a different civ?

Thanks! :D The OCC was a really fun twist. But in the end of both games, Joao ended up in space!

This was a really entertaining game. Between this and Mao, you're doing great recently! :D I'd possibly nominate this for best.

Thanks V8. Seams like Joao and the Roman OCC game were the most popular as far as number of visits.

Calouste, THAT Quote is just the perfect icing on teh cake. I didn't realize my RPCs had that much influence, changing world policy

European civs are coded to get americans as their first colony...

And the part of the ortographical deal between Brazil, Portugal and the other Portuguese speaking countries is a stupid thing in it self IMHO: unlike Brits and Yankees, Brazil and Portugal governements think that there is a need to maintain the portuguese language equal in every place in the world ( I really love this kind of " fighting against History" stuff... ) and as the Brazil power nowadays is far bigger that Portugal, you can imagine how that influenced the negotiations... like if Governements could force someone to write and talk in a way they don't want to

What do you mean? As far as I can see, Brits and Yanks are working together to devalue the english language:goodjob: Also, Portugal giving predominance to Brazilian Portuguese!? Now that is just a bad show as far as neo-colonialism goes! See the EU mission in Chad for a textbook
example of some good old fashioned colionialism fun!

MadScientist, great idea, well executed and inspirational for all! Who isn't going to play some Terra goodness after reading this?!

@k_rolo

I don't think it is silly at all to have one standard for written language. I think the dutch spoken in the netherlands, flanders, and surinam differs a lot more than UK, US, etc english, yet there is agreement on how to spell stuff. I have to submit material to English publishers and magazines on both sides of the pond and it is really annoying that I have to learn two different ways to spell depending on who I am submitting to.

All spelling is more or less arbitrary where it deviates from strict phonetics, so why not all agree on one arbitrary standard? To me, US vs UK English is right out there with the UK and US pints, gallons etc.

Excellent thread, fun to read and very educational for those of us "teching" our way up from Prince!

Thanks for making this.

Dr. Null, I am very happy to see a 2 year old thread of mine can still be useful and entertaining! I hope you continue to enjoy CIV and perhaps follow a few more RPCs.

Joao's game here is still one of my top 5 RPCs I evern did.

edit: haha. posted a reply but just realized this thread is 2 years old.

I should know Mad's threads tend to get revived. :)
