RPC, The Next Generation: King Midas and the Golden Touch

Economics IIRC. The guaranteed part I'm not too sure, because CivIV round down trade route.

Ah, I see looking at it that Mad is already building one, so he must have the tech already.

They do round them down, but each trade route has a base value of at least one, so adding 100% gives at least one extra per trade route. And with 6 trade routes per city now (5 after corporation), that's a good chunk of change.

King Midas and the Golden Touch: Subjegation of the Ethiopian lands

So Midas decides he needs to regroup to prepare for the final assault against Ethiopia

The techpath for this segment went: Military Tradition/Biology/Medicine/Corporation/start Assembly Line

Then after 10 turns of drafting and building our army is ready!

I must say that Zara is an annoying leader to attack at this point in time, the Oromos are tough to take out although cavalry helps and he has grenaders.

However, the is silver and oil to be taken and the gold obsessed Phrygians are a force to be feared.

As the army reassembles to continue the LONGGGGGGGGGG penninsula land, We talk trade with Pericles

And then restart the march of the Phrygians

I will not bore you with too many details, suffice to say we took all Ethiopian cities on the continent.

As we neared medicine I felt there was plenty of useful techs to get for Biology so we make several trades

And we adjusted civics

Midas still prefers to be king, so not representation YET. But that mnay change next segment.

we popped another Great Merchat which we sent off for another trade mission.

And finally the Phrygian army has managed to take the Ethiopian capital

Completely pushing Zara off the landmass!

And while the land is NOT pristine, there are many resources including alot of seafood, silver and oil!

Zara was down to 2 off-shore cities, so we agreed to peace

So let's peak at the techs right now

Room for some key trades here

Being ONE tech away from Railroads I think iron is definitely a priority (noone will trade it, or at least not without our precious metals in return).

With Corporation and medicine we use a saved GM for

Yep, Sid's Suchi!

Now I could have build the HQ in the Confuscian holy city as it is likely we can get a prophet soon, but I felt it more appropriate to have it in Phrygias the capital, and build the Wall Street there (7 merchants!)!

Tech NOW show

Mansa is our biggest threat, easy enough to harass later with some nasty naval assaults. For the meantime did you notice Mehmed?

He also has a nice one city land mass to the north

with iron and seafood! I think we need to hit his real fast while our Galleons can still kill his galleys. With iron we can terrorize the seas with Frigates and we are CLOSE to destroyers!

We saved here, with a view of our cities

And Demographics

So a few things on our Itinerary, as it appears the entire world has previous metals

1) We need iron, and Mehmed is the easiest target for now. Who after?

2) We need to be prudent in who we attack and what we capture to avoid domination before we corner the world's gold market.

3) Our next GP with likely be a Prophet or Engineer, meaning Mining Inc ot the Confiscian holy city.

4) We need to spread Sid's. Is it worth seeding it to foreigners or not? Is Midas greedy to keep the extra food to himself, or is it better to get the extra gold from the other leaders/

5) Civics? I think it is time to adopt representation as Sid's will be producing ALOT of specialists (and we need markets/grocers).

Lot's of stuff out there to do now that Ethiopia is out of the picture.

Liking this RPC!

1)Why do you need iron?

4) Spread Sid's to foreign lands! Midas and the golden touch, not Midas and the touch that turns everything into loaves of bread. You would get about 2 gold per food!

The other items I am inexperienced with dealing with.

Need iron for frigates, cannons, 50% production of ironworks.

Good point about Sid's and the Golden touch!

@Mad

If you need iron so badly, why didn't you just vassal Zara and demand it?

Re: Iron:
Okay. Wait, with oil won't you be able to make subs, transports and the like?

IIRC, Iron is not required to build these units, Mad.
But obviously it is for IronWorks ;)

On the next target: what about Pericles ?
His land sucks, but I see uranium up there and nothing of it in the Phrygian Empire (?).
Just in case it's needed sometimes...

Why are you building so many Theaters???? Building culture is a lot faster at those border pops. Also, just in case, do you have any uranium??:p:lol:

I would seriously smack down Mansa before he gets rifles/infantry... mehmed is a weakling, a token force should be enough to secure the iron island,, take out mansa now and you can't lose...

I think you should go for Civilized Jewelers. The only thing better than having a lot of gold and gems lying around is having lots of golden rings and diamond jewelry for Midas to wear.

If Midas can't have all the precious metals in the world, then no one can have them!

"Scientists working in the recent field of physics, speculate that by bombing the gold and silver mines with special nuclear weaponry, you can actually change the composition of the metals, making them worthless!" - Phrygian Science Society.

All you need is a source of the newly discovered precious metal, uranium!

Also, please build Civilized Jewelers for an indisputable monopoly on all things precious in life.

If I may put in my small contribution, I would like to agree with Loki Strikes that taking out MM should be a priority, and with Don Carnage that Civ Jewellers seems appropriate if you can conjure up the necessary ... artist, is it? And I'd like to see you spread Sushi, partly because of what Silv said that you agreed with, and partly because I've always kept it to myself and would like to see the effect of spreading it. I wonder whether the AIs would spread it to their own cities once you give them the chance...

If you really want to monopolize your cooperations then get broadway, rock'nroll and Hollywood. The AI is always eager to trade with you multiple sea food resources and money for that. About spreading Sids, make sure you do not spread it to an AI that is aiming for a cultural victory :)

It's a bit too late for that as Mansa already has infantry - if he ever researches rifling, of course ;)
But that ist a matter of 2 or 3 turns at best, I presume.

Taking out the strongest opponent sounds good to me, but that means artillery/tanks. Plain infantery wouldn't be enough against Mansa.

Lot's of good advice here. Rather than responding to specific posters I will make these comments

1) Civilized Jewlers: I like it but need the Great Artist, which I plan to try and get from Phrygia once the former Ethiopian capital pops out either the Prophet or Engineer. I think a Great Engineer is prefered and I will found Creative rather than Mining. I believe Creative and Jewelers go together, but not Jewelers and Minging.

2) I got into the habit of Theaters for the Globe and never got out of them. You are correct, I will build culture or play with the slider to get the border pops. In all the years I have played it never dawned on me to BUILD culture for border pops in conquered cities rather than a theater or library.

3) As far as the Phrygian Science Society, I LIKE IT!!!! I sort of dreaed avoiding numerous late game wars and avoinding domination just to get the last scraps of silver/gold/gems. SO alteration of the rule, We can Nuke resources to remove them from the game.

4) Speaking of which, yes we have no Uranium. While we do not have to corner the market, we certainly should have one! Pericles is tempting but his lone iron is on a crap island. I prefer iron first.

5) Mansa. He has always been a sap to defeat in intercontinental late game invasions, so I have no concern there. Also I do not want to see Infantry popping up once he finishes rifling, this is epic not marathon.

6) The culture wonders ound fine if I can get electricity/radio/mass media before Mansa/Pericles/Hammurabi do. All three love those wonders and frankly I prefer the corp techs railroad/combustion as well as the destroyer line.

Yeah mining messes up a lot of corporation combos. Civilized Jewelers can be combined with Creative, One of the Food-corps, and Aluminum Co. That is all 4 at the same time.

Bear in mind that trying to spread 4 corp in the same city is non-advisable. Corporations spread can fail and you lose the dude/gold.
However one can still found all the corporation, simply mining+sushi/cereal in a separate city and std. ethanol as well.

MM has railroad which can be even more annoying than the infantry.

I saw he has AL, but no rifling yet so no infantry, not too late if you invade NOW, otherwise infantry/arty, epic bah, I'd invade him on normal, when he gets magic infantry I make peace.
