RR-01 World Conquest

yes i think 6-4 would be more sensible, as the spear man will be done relatively soon anyway.

also voting for 4-6 factory

2550(0)-emphasize production in both cities (feel free to deemphasize when micromanaging on growth is too much work)
switch Pasargadae to warrior (Persepolis needs some MPs)
Pasargadae gets the BG

2510(1)-turn laborer into taxman (trust me, it was the least wasteful solution I could find)

IBT-volcano under scouting warrior is active

2470(2)-zzz

IBT-Persepolis granary->settler
Pasargadae warrior->warrior

2430(3)-put recently roaded plain to work
warrior goes to Persepolis

2390(4)-zzz

2350(5)-zzz

2310(6)-zzz

IBT-Persepolis settler->settler
Pasargadae warrior->warrior

2270(7)-Mongols know the wheel

2230(8)-zzz

2190(9)-move warrior from Pasargadae to Persepolis
found Arbela, start on warrior

2150(10)-I think Iroquois learned the wheel and sold it to Sumeria and Byzantines

Notes: The land to the immediate north needs to be scouted soon.
Make sure Persepolis is micromanaged correctly. It should work both wheats, the sugar, and the BG at size 4. It should work the grassland that will be mined next turn at size 5.

Here is the save.

Here is our mighty empire:

Help....

I've got a settler that I'm not sure what to do with. Any ideas, gang?

The best spot I see is the saddle between the mountains as it will get irrigation to the plains north but it will be a military training camp only for the early game and will cramp the growth at both Pasargadae and Arbela in the future.

If you're talking about where I think you are, that's close. However, as cramped as it's getting, we need cities to pump out military units and occasional workers so we can start expanding by force soon. I think we're going to need as many cities as we can possibly pack in this small area.

Also, if there's a spot in the swamps to the E and forest to the N, I'd go ahead and settle them if we can even if they won't be too productive until some tiles are reworked.

Okey-dokey

 We have no barracks! and none under
construction. That needs to change so swap builds at
Arbela and Pasargadae to barracks, shift a warrior
from Persepolis to Pasargadae, reassign citizens at
both to get the sheilds at Psargadae to get the
barracks in 8.

1-2110
Start the scouting warriors back home for garrison
duty as we now know prety much everybody.
Time to start planning our first war against the
Iroquois. We are still a long way from a government
change so I don't want to fight it with immortals
(archers and spears should do the trick) So let's
figure out the most efficient way to get twenty
shields at Arbela and Pasargadae

2-2070
Trekking settler. Start forest chop at Arbela to
speed barracks.

3-2030
Trekking
Rome and Mongols have Iron Working
Hiawatha demands 32g. He gets it.

4-1990
Found Antioch on the saddle
Now I am getting worried as Sumeria brings an archer
and an Enk into view north of Pasargadae. This is not
a scouting party nor is it the Welcome Wagon.

5-1950
Find some Libyans yokels in the jungle north.
Trade the Mongols 240g+9gpt for Mysticism. Then trade
Mysticism to the Iroquois for 153g. Then trade
Mysticism to the Romans for 100g. Then trade
Mysticism and 30g to the Byzantines for the Wheel.
There are horses in the east on the other side of the
strait towards the Mongol amd just south of the Iro ville on the coast. Start minimum research on Math for cats and currency. I didn't trade for Iron
Working as we will have it soon anyway

6-1910
Raid the Libyan camp and collect 25g.

7-1870
Sumerian archers(2) and an Enk cross into Pasargadae
boundaries, this is not a good sign

8-1830
The Sumerians are deterred by our cardboard cutout
defense and head NE. The south bound warrior uncovers
Banana Heaven in the jungles so the settler stalled
at Pasargadae heads that way.

9-1790
Trek the settler north

10-1750
Settler meets the warrior in the banana plantation.
Closest source of iron is between Persepolis and
Antium to the east.
After two, maybe three, more settlers Persepolis can go on worker duty for a bit. Use the workers to close off the crossings towards the Romans.

Pasargadae and Arbela will build archers and spears in 4 and 5 respectively. Build at least six archers and four spears then send the archers and at least two spears towards the Iroquois. We could really make good use of that belt of oases they are sitting on.

Our next tech trades should carry us toward Currency then Monarchy. We will never be able to trade for a government tech without lots of cash and a decent piece of trade bait (Currency).

I pulled a worker out of Persepolis so the settler farm is out of phase. That's okay as we really only have a couple of places to go to with new towns until after we remove the Iro from contention for the lands to the west.

good turns, I like the proposed city sites. Also, nice shadow puppet show with our pitiful military to convince the Sumerians to go elsewhere.

No. The closest source of iron is under Pasargadea. :D Actually, I am not sure it is such a good thing since we cannot build more warriors to upgrade to immortals.

I would still settle the next city next to the other source of iron, just to deny it to the Romans. Actually, they have another source far east, but if they get 2 irons, they have more chances of connecting one of them faster. I would settle on the tile W of the iron to have access to the coast so we can build a harbor there in the far far far away future to have some chance of growth.

Another city option would be to try to grab the furs, but we might as well put a target sign on the city...

As I was suspecting, the agricultural Iroquois are the only civ outgrowing us. Their cities are very appealing: wheat, horse, cow, plenty of oasis and floodplains, etc. They will be though to put in complete retreat, but the rewards would be high. Of course, in despotism, it means replacing the cities, so settlers should be within the attack force.

On a sidenote, my new motherboard (DFI Lanparty UT NF3) just arrived today, and it looks like the rest of my shipment is going to get here on Monday.

It does not look likely at all that I will end up getting my turn on Monday, but if it ends up that I have to play my round Monday, would someone care to swap turns? (It may end up taking up to 3 days to debug everything properly and get Civ re-setup with the new parts.)

I would expect a flood of settlers from the Iro soon. Sumeria seems trapped in the jungle north, though they are moving southwest.

Warrior to sword upgrade is not as attractive as it used to be (upgrade cost in C3C is higher), but having iron already is a nuisance rather than a help, as ten shield warriors are better for "puppet shows" and shadow dancing. Ah well, at least we know where it is!

Nice map reading, fb.

preturn: arbela finishes barracks, start archers.

1725: found gordium in banana haven, builds warrior (no road fr iron yet)

1700: iro send settler spear pair. workers mine antioch oasis done in 2, slaves will road pasargadae squares.

1675:iro settler pair + warrior enter our borders, will block chokepoint rather than boot them. settler off towards iron.

1650: workers finish mine, will start improving pasargadae

1625: arbela finishes archer, move to blockade choke point

1600: found bactra next to iron. build archer. worker held up by iro warrior on tile that i was going to improve

1575: blockade nearly complete, hopefully the iro will turn back then. mine pasargadae grass tiles. persolopolis finished spear, start settler.

1550: accidentally let persolopolis riot (sorry) change a labourer to a scientist. complete blockade

1525: iro head home (hooray!) leav blockade where it is for now, if we want to get some worker before we declare war, open the blockade and a settler pair will probably start wandering through our land. lux to 20%+4gpt, maths in 37 (was +6gpt, maths in 41) noone has much to trade, only iroquois are down techs and they have no money, everyone else is equal. iroquois admire our culture :P

1500 persolopolis expands, pasargadae finishes archer, start on another one. send archer to keep persolopolis happy, MM persolopolis to keep it from growing to soon. irrigate pasagadae plains.

Why?!? As long as it does not get to size 7, it should grow as fast as possible!

I am guessing the iro spear-settler pair is heading for the marsh pass. We can close the pass by sending the warrior N-NW and replace it with the archer in Persepolis. Increase lux accordingly. Note that in a recent game of mine, when I completely blocked a pass, the civ that wanted to go through declared war because of it... I am sure TimBentley and Bede remembers.

Should we start a barrack in Gordium?

BTW, good work on the military! :goodjob: We are as strong as some of the other civs.

i guess i couldve just used lux, but i think i was keeping it at the 6-4 settler factory. i guess they might of declared war, but luckily they didn't, they just left :P. we've got a few vet archers and a few more coming, i havnt built any spears really yet, thatll need sonme working on before any wars... i think a barracks in gordium at some point would be good, maybe once its connected up and so we cant build any more warriors from there?

got it. will play before starting the gotm.

>>>THE SAVE<<<

preflight (1500bc)

switch Gordium to rax - will need to be pop rushed when possible

ibt Mongols demand 34g, OK but they move a warrior onto our iron hill by Bactra anyway :(

turn 1 (1475bc)

not much

ibt: Mongols move out of our territory and Iroquois find another way through N of the lake. Complete settler.

turn 2 (1450bc)

start settler/archer pair on way - hopefully will beat the iroquois to the site by one turn.

turn 3 (1425bc)

not much

ibt: Mongols established an embassy

turn 4 (1400bc)

our archer/settler pair is on the deer in the swamp and the iroquois are to the NW and will have to detour S on the ibt
Sending new archer to block the choke N of the lake

turn 5 (1375bc)

archer arrives at choke
Settler gets to desired spot
ibt: looks like iroquois are at war with Sumer - saw an iroquois settler enslaved. Hopefully they will spend their GA's fighting one another
Persiopolis settler => rax.

turn 6 (1350bc)

settle Sidon
Iroquois will meet Rome on the ibt so need to get as much out of trading as possible.
Trade Rome 137g + 5 gpt for HBR
Trade Sumeria HBR for writing + 104g
Trade Byzantines HBR + 83g for Math (still had 34 turns to go)
Trade Mongols math for 253g
Trade Rome math for 138g
Begin researching Philosophy at a deficit. Due in 15

ibt: Caesar demands 48g, ok. Byzantines built the Colossus.

Turn 7 (1325bc)

MM Bactra for worker in 3 - needs to get connected

turn 8 (1300bc)

not much

turn 9 (1275bc)

move new spear into Persiopolis for MP. This allows us to decrease lux slider and increase sci slider and get Philosophy in 8

turn 10 (1250bc)

Not much.

Notes:

There's a settler nearing the Furs between Rome/Mongol. I think it's better to settle on the forest SE of where they are (site 1) so we can get the furs in the city radius rather than by the lake for future growth as then we'd have to either wait for expansion or waste a worker on a colony to get the furs.

Also, looking ahead, after the rax in Persiopolis is done (hopefully will get shield bonus from extra citizen and finish on the ibt), peel off some workers to go clear some swamp so we can settle a city there.

Should be able to pop rush the rax in Gordium soon.

The Iroquois have their horses hooked up.

We have a strong military compared to everyone we know :D , so what does everyone think about going to war with Iroquois in the next 15-20 turns after building up a nice immortals stack?

[edit] the iroquois settler pair are heading towards that small peninsula NE of Sidon.
