RR12 - A perfect spy

The biggest thing we need is to start getting interior cities that don't need to build culture.

That was another reason I built the double crab city - NO culture building needed.

Ok, had a look at the save. Seems like more quiet building ahead of us.

Tech: edu, lib.
City builds: in general just work on infra (granary, CH, forge). Some interior cities like Gondar on military.

I'm inclined to build NE in Yeha. It's our best food city anyway and will only get better when we get rice. It has GLib already and currently has potential for 3 specs. Could be a nice artist/scientist/spy mix, either of the 3 great people will have their uses.

We can get stone from Lincoln in trade (for copper for instance). With that we could think of UoS and Angkor for more cultural pressure. Again Yeha is an obvious candidate. Debre and Addis will work too. Somehow I'm tempted to try for either one in our tiny eastern dwelling of Adulis (use current overflow and 2 chops) and if it fails well, failure gold is always welcome. If it works out, cool. Thoughts on NE and these wonders will be appreciated. :)

Will settle B in lymond's map.

And probably E as well, though could see it as well on top of the copper or 2E to make it coastal. Obviously just a filler anyway purely for silver.

And definitely settle 4E of Yeha, which seemingly is a tile which just passed to us. How about culture bombing that new city immediately with the Great Artist we have? That'd give immediate cultural access to Seoul. If not, what's the idea with the GAr?

Anyway, I think we may want to focus more on Wang anyway as we'll have a lot of cultural road to cover towards the east if the whole map should get under our influence. I'm not worried about Monty or Mansa, their territories will fall relatively easily, I'm more worried about the cultural thrust all the way east. Hence the bomb proposal on a new dwelling 4E of Yeha.

Sounds perfect, Nocho. Probably want to get to Nat some way or another for Taj...maybe Lib it.

Any success in any direction right now is good. As I mentioned before, my #1 issue is more interior cities.

I am more concerned heading toward Wang, but if Mansa and Monty keep bashing each other we can afford bad relations from them with spy failures and negative border modifiers with them.

Take out Monty, and we have a ton of interior cities. :)

Went ahead and played.

Highlights:
- We got education and are on our way to lib. We could lib nationalism directly, or try for constitution or even demo. Nobody else has philo or edu yet. 6 universities are in progress.

- We got a GS in Yeha that built us an academy in Aksum.

- Yeha built the National Epic.

- We got a good though possibly inconsequential event.

- We made a trade for machinery which I figured would be nice for maces, crossbows and windmills. Made use of all three options, also got some LBs out. Our power is a bit less bleak now. Paper was already known by the way, so not too much harm in this trade, imo.

- We settled 2 cities. Didn't use the Great Artist on the 2nd, figured that could wait anyway and keeps other options open.

- Built some more spies. Had 3 successfull and 1 failed culture spread mission in Djenne. We are not too far away of getting more than 50% culture there and have gained some more tiles. :) Also sent spies to Kumbi, no missions there yet.

- Made the stone/copper trade with Lincoln, he threw in an extra 2gpt. Went ahead with my silly plan of building Angkor in Adulis. Still 20-odd turns to go. Might work, might not, but failcash won't be bad either. UoS meanwhile got built by Mansa. On the last turn made a trade for dyes with Shaka, giving pigs.

- Got a slave event in Debre, which cost us minor cash and a pop.

- Shaka and Lincoln made peace. Monty maintains his stalemate with Mansa and Darius. Got some requests from various people to join wars, all declined.

- We're down now to 40% slider, but still out-teching the lot.

For the rest workers were busy, well, working and got some infra. Note that in the far south a barb galley just disappeared in the fog. The crab city has a trireme in the queue that could be whipped as soon as we grow, in case we need it to save our nets.

Didn't build city "E" yet (basically because edu came in and unis were more of a priority) but the land south of Aksum is being prepared for a settlement over there.

As soon as the universities are done we have to to get back on military. I hate having even a single city empty. I also want to get Addis back on high growth again after the university - I don't like idle cottages...

Nice to see we have Djenne close to 50%. :)

Got it.

I still have to look at the save, but it iseems that we have Lib secure ( that is always a nice thing ). What do we get from it ? Good ol?Natio ? Try something more expensive ? Anyway, I assume that the best thing to do is to research lib up to the 1 turn left as fallback plan beofre anything else.

I'm still debating if it is better to do the great work with the GA or simply settle him and let Sistine do it's magic. Any opinions ?

or a well timed Golden Age...I don't think we've run one yet. Despite other things, a Golden Age will give a nice quick boosts to EPs and possible get us another Great Spy. I say in the cities we will max out specialists, do just that, and make sure we run a spy too.

With this variant, I would like to keep the artist for culture bomb / push somewhere. Preferably toward Korea.

Still dying to see our first flip...

Actually, if we can get the first flip or two with spies, saving the GA for a bomb on one of those newly flipped cities would be advantageous.

I like that idea. Speed the next flip up. The faster we flip, the faster cities become internal and can work on stuff other then culture.

Mind that we will most likely will not keep all the flipped cities, because their position might hinder further attacks. Mansa cities are mostly Ok, but i can already see some cities that we will win more by razing them...

This means that we will have to play a lot in settling in the turn those cities are razed, to (ab)use the fact that borders do not readjust ASAP ...

I'm thinking of the Christian founding city of Mansa. If he built a Shrine for us...

Yes, having GAs will be useful for our thrust eastwards.

I think in next set we should also start spy missions against Monty.

I think ti would be better to focus in one target at the time, to take advantage of the decreased costs of the missions due to the already spread culture ...

While that may be true to a certain extent, we don't have eternity at our disposal, so sooner or later we better start working on several fronts at the same time. The sooner we flip Monty's first city the sooner we can work on the rest of his cities.

Our EP should be building vs. Monty - I split EP 50/50 with half vs. Monty.

The big key to the push is more internal cities and getting those latter EP buildings exposed. This variant is a large empire variant. Every city we had generating EP speeds things up.
