RR9 - A man's castle it's his home

Just took a bit deeper look into the save.. I don't think there's more to discuss than where to settle our next city. The rest should be connecting the copper and getting out some axes for conquering the gem-city while improving the land.
Meanwhile we really should hire some specs as we're foodrich but low on happy cap. And we really need to starve our city as we've got an angry citizen in EVERY city!:gripe:
Back to the settling plan: I'd go for the clam/spice spot NE of Ankara..

Ok, I post over whip set ( seriously, so much  faces around ... ) ,so this was rather uninteresting. I basically hired specs everywhere, made some major MM changes ( that will need to be undone soon ) , fended out some barbies ... boring stuff.

In fact the first interesting things happening were in the turn before I ended the set:

Konya site was chosen mainly to cut out the north without actually settling it ;) We were really low in finances and , because of that, our empire would be better getting any building than spittting settlers , atleast for the time being ( now that we have alpha things are diferent ). Btw, that is a very late date for oracle, right? I maintain my bet there aren't any Ind civs around.

And I decided to end the set with Alpha, but not only with Alpha:

I think that we should revolt ASAP. Izzy is a kitty cat when we run the same religion as her, so it would be a big insurance.

Some other stuff to discuss:
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0432.jpg

civ4screenshot0431.jpg

First, Izzy is not that advanced, but that is expected with a jungle start....

The second is the Mids. I originally started it to both get failure gold and to keep the hands of the cap pop busy with something besides building units to burden our budget ... but given how late the wonders are falling, I wonder if it would be a good idea to actually try to finish it. We are in a land with not much of pre-calendar :) so either HR or Rep would be useful ... not mentioning that, with the usage of specs we are doing now, REP would be a huge help :D. I think it is worth a try... do you?

Anyway , next player(s) ( btw, it is Thy, with nocho on deck ) has a lot to do in the next turns. I strongly suggest to put both 2-3 settlers out to cut out Izzy way north if we can ( not sure of how much land she has to the south, but we must assume , given that she is not pressuring up north as much as that, that she has some space south ) and to put 4-5 axes out to capture that gems city from the barbs. The whip anger is already out of all cities, so a major MM to grow cities and them whip this items is in order. I also suggest to keep the research on currency , if needed using research to avoid entering a maintenance death spiral.

Well, we were bound to get Buddhism some time, and it means we can fight Isabella on our terms, not hers.

Good set. I've seen the 'Mids fall after 500 AD on some maps, but I don't play above Monarch, so...

Ok, took a look into the save and we need some discussions I think..
As rolo mentioned we need at least two settlers for blocking Izzy. But first we need to decide where we want to settle those blockers and where to build them, especially as it seems we want to try on mids in Istanbul AND need the :hammers: for building research.. And there's the barb city too we want to capture!
Nonetheless here my settling plan:
Spoiler :
Screen07.jpg

As city maintenance is already killing us I'd purpose to settle yellow before red dot.
For getting at least some axes out I'd whip the angry face in Ankara for an axe and in Bursa and Erdine I'll whip the barracks for max overflow into two other axes. A fogbusting warrior already scouted three archers in Zhou, and as I'm not sure whether 3 CR1 axes will do the job, I think Ankara should go for a fourth one.
And for the settlers I'll send a worker back to Istanbul to chop at least one forest into a settler and the second one I'd whip with max overflow into the mids..
The only problem I see is that we'd loose all our juicy scientists through whipping! So it will take ages to finish currency!
As I'm going to play it tomorrow evening you've got around 24 hours to give some additional input!

Red will need a lot of work to be profitable, so, yes, you can start with yellow. Red might even be impossible to settle if Izzy pumps culture out fast enough from that city

On the barb city: yup, atleast 4 axes are needed. 5 would be nice, but we're in a tight schedule.

On building research: that is a last option. Teching via specs is far preferable, so use that in regrowth times and only if really needed to keep thing from stalling and to avoid building units and drown in maintenance. .

Yeah, yellow first. Not sure on red, the banana is already Izzy's. Maybe move it NE to share the pig?

Don't think Istanbul should do 2 settlers. I think I'd build/whip one in Edirne with the overflow going to an axe. If we chop a bit around Ankara the bulk of axes can come from there. I might be inclined to actually go for a worker first in Istanbul (4 turns) for chopping heavily (togeher with the worker near Edirne) into a settler if really needed and subsequently the mids.

Yup, no prob with delaying the Mids. We can still use the failure gold ( in fact, that was the first objective after all :D ). In fact I'm inclined to do as nocho said: chop axes from cap, get one of the settlers out of Edirne...

And nocho has a point on moving red to NE. That banana is in Izzy land, and anyway it is not a asset until IW+calendar.

Do we have barracks in Istanbul already? And nocho said to chop a settler over there not a bunch of axes..
But whipping Erdine for the first settler and chopping Istanbul for the second one while Ankara gets some chops for some axes sounds good to me as well!

IT:
Went with nocho's idea and changed Istanbul to a worker, Erdine to a Settler and whiped the axe in Ankara to set it afterwards to max :hammers: while stagnating.

525BC:
Axe in Ankara finished, second one called.

500BC:
Dialed science down to 20% to keep at least some cash in the bank for some bad events.

475BC:
Bud spread to Ankara as well and that's where I remembered that we wanted to change to bud ASAP. So revolt got started.

450BC:
As bud raised the happy cap Ankara and Bursa started to grow once again.

425BC:
Second axe finished in Ankara and third started. The worker in Istanbul finished and on we go with the second settler. And we're down to 0% science netting us 3 gold...

375BC:
1-pop whiped the barracks in Bursa with max overflow into another axe. And Ankara finished yet another axe.

350BC:
Livy's greatest work:
Spoiler :
Screen08.jpg

And the first goal reached:
Spoiler :
Screen09.jpg

Started a monument. And in Istanbul our second settler got whiped as well.

325BC:
Axe in Bursa finished and as there's nothing else senseful to build research it is. The monument in Konya got whiped.

300BC:
Last axe for Zhou finished in Ankara and here as well research got called. The monument in Konya finished and thy to max overflow the gran will do next turn!

275BC:
Gran in Konya finished. Lib is next.

250BC:
Second goal reached as well:
Spoiler :
Screen10.jpg

And here as well another monument got started.

I'm going to pass the game here as I already played 12 turns.. I didn't fulfill my quest completely but at least I founded both cities and beside the 3 axes waiting next to Zhou two more will arive in about 3 turns. So for next player it should become an easy ride towards the city!

BTW: Istanbul still misses barracks ;)

Ok, got it.

Will try to get to currency as soon as reasonably possible. What do we want to research after currency? CoL? In that case maybe we can insert meditation/priesthood, if only to be able to build temples (we have 4 bud cities by now) and PH gives a discount to CoL.

Other tasks: capture Zhou, halt further expansion until economy gets back on track. Chop into mids. Would indeed be a nice bonus if we can snatch it.

Ok, looked that the save and it looks good... now we only have to capture the barb city and tech to currency in the next turns. We could use some more workers, but those can ( and should, given that we are Exp ) whipped when we pass the hap cap of the cities.

Just a minor MM regard: Edirne could be working a FP cottage instead of the cow. I understand the idea of growing when the whip anger goes out, but IMHO we need the coins more than hammers at this point.

P.S Nocho, just remember to move the axes to that forest tile NE of the barb city, since it is the only tile that the barb has with hammers ;)

Played 9 turns until we got a great scientist.

Whipped some monuments in our newest cities and then captured our little trophey. Note however that we don't have IW and with no way of removing jungle it's plain horrendous. :)
RR920008.jpg

We spot fish near spice/clams, the area wasn't scouted optimally yet.
Spoiler :
RR920011.jpg

On the penultimate turn currency came in. Followed with polytheism, but inserting IW might be an idea, as Izzy only wants to trade fishing away.

Speaking of her, she made a demand (conceeded of course):
RR920013.jpg

And we made a trade.
RR920014.jpg

And we got our great scientist in Edirne, currently unused and with movement left. As we got a happy resource in trade, reassigned all cities so they can grow asap. Once they do, tiles should be reconfigured. Ankara for instance should hire scientists again to pop a next GS. Bursa same thing IIRC.

With currency also switched from reseach to wealth.

Finally, realized halfway we had OB with Izzy, so started scouting her land a bit.
RR920019.jpg

She only has archers, has no copper (could have iron though) and Madrid is on flat land. And we are led by the king of LHC. :mischief:

Well, it'd be best to confirm that she has metal before we charge.

I mean, we are going to attack her, right? :p
