Ruff02 - Concurrent Succession Game

I guess I rarely think of oblisks unless I've just been beat to both religions AND stonehenge. Too bad we just came out of a war with an atheist! We need to get some religious spread going on, it will help our culture and will bring many more resources into the fold.

I hear ya ~ FWIW, the Missionary i was building in Delhi was destined for kara.

I have to say that My official voite going to no one, for the fact that everyone miss winning opportunity.

re: the "missed oppurtunity"

I noticed the main mistake all people doing in succession games. They rarelly have plan and vision spawned more then local optimisation or what to research next.
I can't speak for everyone, but, far more than playing the perfect game of Civ, SG's are for companionship and an enjoyable experience w/like-minded folks.

@ Muti ~ why don't you just play all the rounds, and email us w/detailed reports of exactly what we did wrong; it might be more fun for you ~

I appreciate the learning opportunity this game represents and for the new ideas and tactics that everyone has already brought here. So a huge thank you for taking the time to explain thoughts and reasons behind the strategies.

That being said, Mutineer this SG is based on choosing the best save out of the turns that were played. Choosing to vote for no one is not a valid choice. I appreciate that in your eyes the turns that were played all made mistakes. Of course you made a mistake in not playing when it was your turn. We as a group have to make the best of the mistakes that are made.

SO of the three choices available to you, which save do you find to be the best?

The turnsets were very close. Only two things really stood out to me. I'm voting for Pholk for those two reasons:

1. It looks like he got the collossus out quicker by chopping. I don't think the others did this.

2. He left our economy much better than other saves. Though I don't agree with disbanding axes (warriors yes, axes no) he did a great job at getting our economy stable for the moment.

btw Mutineer: you're proposed tech plan sounded really good, better than the others and I agree with you that it wasn't the best decision to research masonry. What's done is done though so no need to get angry. You can still follow your tech plan in the next round.

While I agree with your vote, and I didn't chop the Colossus, I did speed it along a bit by whipping. I don't know if this is a better choice, probably not, but I did get it out faster than otherwise. Just wanted to point that out, for what it's worth.

Ah Okay. Thanks for pointing that out. As long as you didn't whip it for a lot of pop (more than 2) than you probably did make a good choice.

I also forgot to mention that all saves look like they have been doing a lot of whipping. I think we are getting to the point where it is better now to let our cities grow and work cottages. We need for them to mature to get our GNP up. I'd like to start expanding before our continent gets eaten up by the AI's and we don't have the money to do so yet. I don't really see the point of whipping now unless its a granary or lighthouse in which case the pop will be recovered whipping.

Actually... I only think I whipped twice during my turns! Its all good. looking forward to next group's outcomes.

OK, I finished my turns.

Research wize.
If we learn Masonry, then we need to use it to max advantage.
Change research to
Politheism-Monotheism- (revolted to orgonised religion)-
Mathematics-literature(we did research masonry, we better use it for a max)-
Monarchy (die in one turn).

Open border to hatty.
Build and town development wize.

Deli- build bunch of cottagess, grow city with max speed.

Karachorum - build a bunch of farms to speed up it grow. It should be our industrial centre.
Finished ligthouse-monastery-acveduck-harden garden-library (in building)

New towns with exess food- whiped granaries-forges-ligthouses.
Towns with our exec food were building missionaries and boats of new and future cities.

One setler running to found, one more in 2 turns.

Missionaris spread buddism to all our cities and to hatty.
It is Hatty not bismark. Bismark allredy buddist and we do not need to help him to use orgonised religion to max. Hatty in other hand would not use buddism, just provide as with income and information.

Just because I want to illustrate difference I add this unofficial entry.
It was played after my official entry 40 turns from previous Ruff save.
Spoiler :

This entry was using Non Masontry Prophet strat. IN this one we got civil service 5 turns (I think) ago. I even researched Mathematic and masonry ofter that for easier compare.

Second diference is demonstration of big use of farm and there advantages.
I sort of can show it in 20 turns, but in 20 turns difference is not notisable enoght yet.
I actially made some mistakes here, as I was not as carefull as useal, but still come on top.

I have done my turn... not a lot of action... I don't know what have happen with my autolog, but I can't find the log, fortunately I have some notes.

Spoiler :

So for the tech path, after Math, I was gone for Poly, and then Litteracy. After that (11 turn later) I searched Currency, and Calendar (due in 3 turns) for the silk and the incense.

I spread buddism in most of our cities, I forgot Turfan... :smoke: But our religion spread spontaneously to most of Bismarck's cities.

Socrates appeared in Dehli, so I build an academy in Dehli.

For the infra:
aqueduct in Dehli, library in karak (market due in 13 turn, karak MM for growth), lighthouse and library in madras, turfan library done and granary (due in 8 turns)... and I done the Great Library in Karak. :p

On the diplomatic side:
Hatty ask for currency... I say no!
Bismarck trade us Pig for Ivory, I accept as he didn't have construction for the moment.

A settler is ready near Karak, I didn't move it, so the next player can choose our next city... probably in the south peninsula.

Round 3 - Group 2
Mutineer - reported
Spinoza - ??
knupp715 - ??
Ruff_Hi - about to report
radiopill - reported

This was a fairly dull 20 turns, especially compared to my last 20. No one would trade anything with us although I did trade some ivory for bacon with Freddy. I researched Calendar (for plantations) and Literature (for the Great Library). I also worked on spreading our religion to all of our towns (completed) and finished two settlers (see pictures below). I don't think we should build the corn/fish town just yet due to finances - wait until we have some courthouses up and running. The fishing village must be done to stop Freddy (see pictures below).

Here is the state of our nation (@ 70% research) …

Ok - so we have three options to discuss and vote on. Any comments anyone?
