Ruff02 - Concurrent Succession Game

I like Knupp's war progress better then mine, but I've still got a GE waiting around and got the Taj. I'm going to vote for myself.

I don't think that trading away gunpowder is a game breaker... imo of course

pholkhero said:
hmm..i like the progress i made and the musket & the beginnings of a gren army. Perhaps my tech choices were off, but we can use the military tech adv to conquer another civ or two quickly to get close enough to diplo-dom (like the dinosaur). Knupp did well, but i don't like El-Amerna being kept, however, he got a city or two more than i did. I also didn't use the whip at all, so that is available to the next player if they'd like.

i hate to do it and "Pull a Radio" :p i will vote for myself.

Pholkhero: votes for Pholkhero

[the above is for your cut&paste pleasure]

also, here's my save if anyone wants to look around.

I vote for Pholk too...

I'm voting for myself because I think I made the most war progress. A lot of infrastructure builds are coming in plus printing-press to help improve our economy. We just need to build up an army and take out Germany.

Oh goodie - we have a tie. Did I mention the tie break method? No, well, in the event of ties, the save with the highest score is the winner. In this case, Bob's save had a score of 1874 while pholkhero had a score of 1923. So we play on from pholkhero's save.

Here are the two groups ...

Group 1
bobrath
Mutineer
radiopill
Ruff_Hi

Group 2
knupp715
pholkhero
chriseay

And the save to download is back here.

Finished my turns.

Spoiler :

Higligth.
Finished Hatty.
Build West Point + Oxford
Researched and traded for
Guilds-Baking-Repablic-Printing press-Replasable parts - Rifling in one turn
Did not traded for Astronomy (everyone know it, posible to get from Peter)
Because it will kill colosys. We would need it to get to build some frigates befor taking on Bismark, but right now it would kill our research.
Got second GE my last turn. The best use is probably build Versalies somewhere, may be down south. It would let as to have forbitten for something else.
Got a bunch of GP point in some other cities.
Whiped/build enogth banks to Build Wall street when we get Economic.

Turn 0 revolted to Slavery, start whipping thinks
Turn 2 took bouth Hatty cities and made peace for Guilds
Turn 3 traded Gunpoweder for banking to Peter.
Got GE, spend it for West Point in Karacorum
Karacorun all was building greens and cavalery after that.
Turn 5
Whipping more or less finished.
revolted to Merkantinilism/pacifism. was saving a lot of money.
Research wize Milithary tradition-Republic
Turn10 revolted to Representation.
Finished Oxford in Deli.
Republic-Printing press-Replacable parts-rifling(1 turn left)
Upgraded 2 expiriences maces.

Tuen 14 finish rebasing some army, declared on Hatty and kill her on my last turn.

Spoiler :
Not a very good turnset...
I change to slavery at the beginning of my turn, I made a lot of whipping for Courthouses in the former egyptian cities, and for colosseum/stupa for happiness...
Westpoint is due in 1 in Karak, I have done Versailles in Thebes, we need one more universities before Oxford (possibility to whip this one in Madras), and there are a lot of bank whipeable...

I poped a great scientifique, I use it for printing press.
For the tech: military tradition, Guild, Bank, Economics and Printing Press. Replaceable part due in 3 turns.

For the civics I changed for slavery at turn 0, and for free market and free speech at turn 16. Why I didn't change to free speech earlier is a mystery  :crazyeye:

I didn't finished Hatty, but at least I take her good cities.

Well, I suspect I ran middle of the road here. Hatty is prepped for her final demise. We're right in the tech race. We've got some good work on wonders (national and world).

I switched civics at the very start of my turns to Slavery for application of :whipped: and nationalism to help our happy problems (and reduce the civics cost). In turn 0 I then applied the :whipped: to multiple cities and got all sorts of builds done asap.

I trade Liberalism for Guilds, a world map, and 60g with Peter. Everyone else had guilds, so I just picked the one tech that others had and made it work for us.

A couple quick defeats for Hatty:
civ4screenshot00011tl.jpg

and I check what she'll give us for peace. She has three cities... and will give us one plus her world map. Since none of our units are even close to her new homeland and WW will just hurt, I take the offer of peace. We get a tiny fishing village in the very artic south. My bet is we may lose this city once we declare war again, so I'm not to worried about it. I do get a workboat out of it for the crabs and if it survives, the lighthouse may turn it around.

Tech wise, we researched or traded for Military Tradition, Guilds, Banking, Printing Press, Astronomy, and Steel. We're six turns out from Sci Meth completion (racing for the free Great Scientist). When Astronomy came in, I made trades for gpt with all the other civs I could. Easy 9gpt there.

Bismark has Replacable Parts (and will trade it for Chemistry) and HC has Economics, but won't trade it. No sense in trading for either one at this time.

In the south, here's what we're facing from Hatty:
civ4screenshot00035vc.jpg

And our forces (newly upgraded ships):
civ4screenshot00046in.jpg

So in the first turn or two of the next set, it should be a pretty quick rollup of Hatty's forces. I've kept an eye on her and there have been no more expansions. Removing her will make us all feel better, her old homeland is pretty thinkly ours at this point.

I do have two small stacks set up for upgrading or use:
civ4screenshot00063wq.jpg

civ4screenshot00073xm.jpg

Here's the quick shot of our world:
civ4screenshot00085ih.jpg

Only Alexandria is lacking Buddhism for us. We're currently running HR, Free Speech, Slavery, Decentralization, and Organized Religion. HC is in the early part of GA.

Forbidden Palace completed in the far south of our original contienent. West Point will complete when you press enter in Karakorum (site of our Heroic Epic). Versailles is 20 turns our in Pi-Ramses.

We popped one Great Scientist and I used him to speed our research on Steel.

That's about it. We're set up for taking Hatty out. Who we go after next is fairly open. Bismark is the closest and easiest, but he's also our best friend (no negatives). HC is the second most powerful, and we'd have to cross an ocean to get him. I suspect Alex should probably be next due to his proximity to our south (and thus closeness of our military). We do need to crank out some military for the next big invasion, but I don't think we need any builds asap for the short term. Mostly builder mode for me (with building happening at the end of the :whipped: as often as cities could bare it).

I've just noticed that I am in the first group - I thought I was in the second. Please vote on these three and I will play in group 2 - sorry all.

I would to put some comments about civic use.
I can not check how it is for everyone else, but IN my save all AI are in Mercantenilism. That mean that our cities do not have any foreign trade routes. Merchantenilism, especially with representation give mach more then Free markets.
In addition, we now have twice as many cities as our nearest competitor.
That mean our competitor will pick up the best our cities to trade with and will have very lucrative trade routes, when we probably do not have enogth foreign cities to trade even if we can trade with eveyrone.
In this situations it is mach better to close your market by Using Mercantenilism. Not only it is better for as, but it slow down our opponents.

Now, Free speach or burocracy. If you count, we do not have that many villages and towns. Our capital on other hand has best collection of money/sci building then any other city of our empire. So, Burocracy is still better for as then free speach. It will change when more villages/towns will come online, but right now burocracy still better.

Interesting stuff. Helps me understand the use of that civic. I never understood why giving up foreign trade routes would be worth the specialist increase. Thanks mutineer!

Regarding saves... I'm not sure which is the best, partially because I'm not sure where we go next. Are we going to pursue domination/conquest or some other route? If we go aggresive, where do folks look to head for the next target?

My save were developed with intention to go to domination.
Riffles next and drafted riffles + greens will give as bissmark in no time.
He has a lot of mounted units, so, riflles will protect our stack and they are good in taking cities.
Hatty is dead, so, it is just matter of rebasing army, drafting riffles, trade for Astronomy and whipping some frigates.

I vote for Mutineer's save:

-best use of civic
-best management of the war (peace for guild was really good, and I don't why I didn't even think about it... )

It's enougth for me...:goodjob: and thx for the comments about mercantilism, I have never look at it this way...

I'm voting for Mutineer's save as well for reasons stated above. He played well.
