LoL- it doesn't really matter if Englismen like or dislike Boudicca - or Arthur*, mythical or real, as a matter of fact- no matter how you twist it, they both just weren't English. Period.

England literaly means "Land of the Angles" (Form old German "Angl Land" --> to old English "Angland" --> to modern English "England").

The territory nowadays called "England" has been named after the people that settled there! It is not the people that have been named after the territory they lived in.

Similarly, France is where the "Franks" lived, Germany was called "Germania" for the sole reson that it was full of the so called 'Germans'. Nowadays, if one is born in America (named after Amerigo Vespucci and not after any tribes) he is automaticaly an American and the name of the place you come from names its people, granted, but don't confuse this with how the ancient names were atributed from the peoples onto the land the lived on. That is the reson why Boudiccea does not apply to England, since she lived before it existed. Calling Vercingetorix a 'great French leader' would be the same mistake.

Thanks for clarifying Shiro, but I don't think you did anything wrong. I look forward to your next work.
Ditto - Looking forward to Richie :)

Richard I: 5
Alfred the Great: 2
John Bull: 1
Henry VIII: 5
Goldflash: 1
Auther: 1
Gladstone: 1
Athelstan: 1
Henry II: 1

I'm not sure if those are the exact numbers because some people changed their votes, or but the votes in a paragraph of other talking.

So the leader of the UK/Britain/or England(if you don't want to change the civ name) will be: A Victorian-Elizabeth mix.

Hey folks... Shiro hasn't been around here for 5 months. I doubt this poll is going to go anywhere... :(

Reading Cartesian Fart's vote, I can't help but think of the saucy little wench who played Elizabeth on the Black Adder series, Miranda Richardson. She was utterly delightful. It would be a nice change of pace to have a ditzy Queen with appropriate diplomacy.txt to back her up.

My only problem with Richard the Lionheart was that he was the King of the Angevin Empire, never visited England, spoke no English and I can only assume this is why the English loved him so. If I were to select as king somebody who only reigned for about 10 years (as did Richard) I'd chose Henry V, who at least lived in England, spoke English and had a damned good play written about him.

I like Plotinus' idea of Gladstone and agree with him regarding Churchill, but also think Benjamin Disraeli, imperialist and arch-rival of Gladstone, wouldn't be a bad choice for an empire that once ruled over a quarter of the earth's surface.

My vote? Guess I'll go with Henry V simply because we have such a plethora of good female leaderheads thanks to Rob's leaderhead machine.

Well, Gladstone extended the empire more than Disraeli ever did, rather ironically... perhaps Palmerston might be a good alternative?

Although, as has been pointed out, this poll is rather outdated now.

Shirou hasn't posted since June; he at least implied that he was done with making things for C3C. You're wishing down a dry well.

Well, that's a real shame. I remember when Shiro first started making leaderheads. He said he wanted to make a name for himself as a leaderhead maker. Well, he certainly accomplished that. I hope he's doing well wherever he is now, and I'll miss his creations.

Does anybody have any more information regarding Shiro's current whereabouts? I'm kind of interested because I was going to work in close contact with him during the creation process of my Feudal Japanese scenario, but if he's gone (permanently?), than I'm going to have quite the problem doing that.

Damn shame if he's gone forever though, he had a lot of really nice leaderhead ideas in the making...darn...

Because of Civ IV we are losing our best CivIII stuff-makers.

Shiro mentioned that he no longer felt like making things for Civ3. However, he also mentioned that he had no real inclination to move on to Civ4. He has pretty much disappeared from the forums.

Yes, it's a shame the whole question is rather moot. Perhaps Shiro will have a change of heart. Either way, the original question is still an interesting one. Many interesting rulers and not necessarily easy to find the right one, as this poll demonstrates. How about William Pitt (the younger)?

Hm, you're very smart, but it's not the reason to exhumate good old posts, man, to show it. It's better to make something good and/or new and make all civers happy. ;)
