Runtime Error? Never seen this before!

Hey guys, I seem to have a problem when loading a save game, or any save games beyond a certain point in my game.

This error reads:-

"Runtime Error!
Program:... er's Civilisation4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe

The application has reqested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more information."

Im using the Fall Further modmod, so I hope it has nothing to do with this.

The defining point seems to be constructing the guild of hammers, but this has not happened before when using FfH 0.31e.

Any ideas what is causing this? I can provide save games if anyone wants (though they are big games which will take a while to load - bigger than huge maps).

dude i saw alot of your questions lately on forums, but thing is that you can easily find answer for any of them if you just look allitle in related threads.... the issue you talking should be checked and discussed in Fall further development thread....
the error caused due some issue with complex civ modding, and all related stuff can be found in appopriate thread.
 
Thanks for the info. I'd rather you didn't tell me like I'm stupid. I didn't know this was a Fall Further issue. If I did I wouldn't be posting here now would I?

If you post the save over in that thread, I'll take a look at it.

Also - does it occur reliably every time you load the game?
 
Ok I'll repost it in Fall Further also :)

It happens evey time I load any save game that appears from building the guild of hammers. I don't think this is related. I don't have any time to test over the next couple of days, but I'm going to try delaying the guild of hammers to see if the saved game loads. I can continue to PLAY past the point where saved games repeatedly fail to load, but once I've quit I cannot get back in.

Also, I'm an XP user, not Vista (though am aware that vista seems to prove troublesome for FfH).

Realised I cannot upload the saved games as they are slightly over 2meg in size each (limit for BtS saved games attachments is 2meg).

If anyone wants to help out, I could email these saved games to you :)

FYI: In 0.32 I could never get any save to load, everyone crashed with a runtime error after adding a new attribute to events. there wasn't anything particuarly special about the new attribute. I spent 3 days checking/playing with it in every possible fashion. In all cases the game started and played just fine, but I could never get a save to load.

The fix was pretty bizarre. Events load in the "postglobal" section. Basically most XML loads (all before BtS) when the game loads. But in BtS Firaxis created another loadstage that happens after the main menu (when you click start game after selecting your play now or custom game settings, or you try to load a save game) where a few things like events load.

I moved events out of the postglobal section and into the section where the other xml files load (when Civ4 starts) and all of saves started working. Im not sure why it fixed the problem, and Im not sure why events were in postglobals in the first place. I would guess that when you try to load a savegame the event info from the save is being read in before the event xml is done loading, causing the crash. Therefor the more event info we add (impacted by the speed of your computer) the more likely this crash would be.

Thats my guess. It may be causing your issue as well. Either way it will be fixed in 0.32. Vehem if you see a rash of this and want to try the fix before 0.32 comes out PM me and I'll send you the code change I made.
 
So when is .32 comming out? And will there be another .31 patch first?

Don't know, and probably not (at least to this point none of the fixes I have in 0.32 justify a patch release).

Thanks for the info Kael. I've started a different game with my friends for now, so one can hope that the same thing doesn't happen while we wait for 0.32 :)

I recently got a new computer with vista and began playing ffh on it. Seems leaderheads are causing ctd's/runtime error messages, but not consistently. I can reload from a save/autosave and it won't happen again, but the crashes seem to happen consistently with leaderhead popups.
 
Okay, reduced my graphics settings and that seems to have fixed the problem, even though I have no graphical issues for other games running at their highest settings, e.g. Bioshock.
