Could someone please post a list of common Russian first and/or last names? Much appreciated. I would post a thank you in Russian, but I don't know how.

Thank you = Спасибо

And on that list is: Valeriy = Valera (vah-LYE-reey = vah-LYE-rah)

That one has always puzzled me. Hard to take a man seriously, even though he is a well-known tanker and internet website/forum host.

I dunno, just strike me as a more feminine-type name. Anything that ends in an '-a' is not really my idea of a masculine name.

In roman script that works out as "spazeba".... one of the few Russian words I know! :D

"Ikrad" is another.... as it is my surname in Russian

Oh and some songs like

Maya Volga mats reika

or

Kalinka, kalinka, kalinka maya
fsardo yogada malinka malinka maya.

I am sure all Russians reading this are groaning at the poor "pronunciation".... but I learned these about 25 years ago, so give me a break! :D

The most obvious ones that I can think of are:

Ivan
Victor
Sergei
Vladimir
Peter (Though, this one isn't really restricted to Russia)

Its been awhile since I've been in Russia... and my drinking habits have caused me to forget most of my childhood.

Along with the fact that I'm married... Perhaps thats why I keep drinking ;)

Boris!!!!!

That's pretty close to how it's pronounced. Though it'd be more like "spass-eeba."

Grr...hard to write it out without using pronounciation keys that I can't type.

Boris!!!!!

Boris is in fact originally bulgarian, but it was adopted into russian, and then spread into other (mainly slavonic) languages. For example, my cousin is named Boris, and none of my family is Russian.

Mikhail
Sonya
Andrei
Nikolai

Reading some Tolstoy would give some good names.
