DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING THREAD DISCUSSES THE USE OF CERTAIN NATURALLY OCCURING HALLUCINOGENS. I AM IN NO WAY CONDONING OR ENCOURAGING THE USE OF SAID DRUGS TO ANYONE. THIS IS SIMPLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS EXPERIENCES AND THE LEGAL STATUS OF SALVIA DIVORONIUM.

Last night a...friend of mine (:mischief:)...had thier first experience with the plant known as Salvia Divinorum, commonly known as Diviners Sage or just Salvia. Containing one of the most potent hallucingenic substances known to science (Salvorin A & B), it certainly lives up to the hype, producing a brief but powerful experience in which the user often loses contact with thier own personality and 'forgets' who or what they are, has vivid hallucinations and tactile sensations. The entire experience lasts only about 7 minutes, after which the user is completely lucid, with complete memory of the experience.

The kicker: in Canada and the US (except Louisianna) it is completely legal. in fact, the salvia mentioned above was purchased legally at a pipe shop, without a shred of secrecy. It is illegal to posses in some countries (Australia, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, and South Korea) to sell in others (Spain), and in some countries it is illegal to import, but legal to use if you have a persrciption (Finland, Norway, Iceland, and Estonia).

My questions to you: [revised] What do you think of the legal status of this drug? Should it be controled, banned, or left alone?

I am thinking about trying it again. I've done it once and I don't believe I was prepared. It lasted approximately 15-20 minutes; we did a fair amount of it.

I pretty much thought I was dead. As if I had crossed over to some afterlife. Which is odd, because I don't believe in that nonsense. It's difficult to describe, I was drooling uncontrollably.

Right now I would not try it again. I've experimented with a lot of stuff, but Salvia cuts the cake really. For what it produces and does, being legal and cheap, there is no better experience in my opinion.

One of my friends claim the ecstasy they've tried laced with Heroin and Speed was slightly more powerful, but I don't share this belief.

What did your friend experience?

Wow. Why not sprinkle it with crack, while you're at it ?

Oy! how did I miss that?

Ah well, maybe this thread can discuss the legal status rather than the experience itself...but before we do that....

My 'friend'....ok, we can drop that now....when I tried it, I had the sensation of being dropped on the floor (you know the jolt you get when you make contact?) over and over until it became a high frequency shudder. Suddenly I was on the open range of the desert (my walls are painted sandy red) watching a small puppet show (it was my tv :) ). The only thing that made sense was my gf's face. When she tried it, she ended up getting a little more panicked: she felt a connection to the TV as well, except in this case she felt that she had to interact with it in order for the show to continue. She said that she eneterd a matrix-like reality and that I was part of the conspiracy..

but back on topic: the folk that I bought it from have a self-imposed age limit on thier sales (no one under 19 could buy it), but since there are no laws against its sale, anyone can buy it if the shop-keep is willing to sell. Should there be any legislation dealing with this drug, or is this just going to end up in a complete ban?

If it doesn;t have any side effects than what the hell go for it. My friend does Salvia usually he tells me like real weird stuff about the hallucinations.

If this drug is safe i would actually like to try it just to feel the effects.

Uh, don't. That warning scares me because I can no longer handle marijuana, (it makes me really anxious and paranoid), so I wouldn't try this.

It is probbaly no more "safe" than marijuana, except that it is legal.

Erm I don't want to worry you this is purely academic from your point of view, but I had a friend who felt like that on marijuana and he eventually became schizophrenic, not from the drug I hasten to add but from other much more serious factors, glad your avoiding it like the plague.:)

They are all bad, it's a grey area though from coffee (actually good for you somewhat) to crack( never good, not ever)

Although Red Stranger may well try to convince you that Coffee;) leads to crack and from thence to murder and rape but hey that's Red, where would we be without some comic relief, Red that statement's going to go down in forum history :p:D

Why would anyone want to ingest a drug when the long term effects of such a drug are largely unknown?

Just because there is not a specific law making it a controlled substance does not mean ingesting it is a kewl thing to do.

People do that all the time. There's a ton of drugs on the market where the longterm effects are completely unknown. Particularly cause they were just invented.

Well, stuff on the market has to go through testing trials does it not? I dont think this is the case in what is being discussed in this thread.

We all know how well the testing trials went for Vioxx...

Its never completely thourough though. And problems can pop up that evaded the testing.

I guess you would have to try it first to understand. Or look at it from the point of view that you only get to live once! I mean, if one actually researched the ingredients they ingest on a daily basis in 'everyday food', they could probably equate the chemicals to a shot of glycol.

If you're responsbile with the drug, and want to really experience something different - and I mean not third dimension different, then Salvia is the key.

It's also been used by humans forever, so I guess it's all good.

All you are doing is inhaling something into your lungs, then breathing it out. Salvia isn't habit forming, if anything it's the opposite - so generally only a one off.

If you are paranoid about trying it, don't. If you are openminded then you will appreciate it's a great experience.

I don't think it should be illegal, but then i'm of the same opinion with other hallucinogens also. Anything done/used responsibly is fine.
