Saving Rome CFC Contest

I'm having so much fun with Loulongs Kamikaze contest, or I will be when the next round starts , I thought I'd start a new one based on the Fall of Rome.
Consider an alternate future where the 2 halves of the empire have agreed to work together to stem the barbarian invasions. The barbarians will eventally have a loose alliance once they have met.

Same idea, 2 games per pair where you are either the barbarians or the 2 halves of the Roman Empire. Best combined score wins.

Maybe 8 players as 16 seems a bit cumbersome.

The game is the same as the conquests standard 8 player Fall of Rome but the Roman empire is set to human player.
Rules
Razing cities would be OK, even expected from barbarian tribes

FAQ's
Do I play both together
Yes. The idea is that you play two games at the same time. Each player in a pairing will start a game as Rome (East and West) passing on to the other player who plays the other 6 barnarian civs. Also they should start a thread for reporting the battle results and GPS's. That way any imbalances will be equalised as your score is taken from both games.
Setting up names
When setting up you will have to number the names to keep them unique of the game does not like it.

Each round you set up one game as the romans and recieve one game as the barbarians. 3 points for the winner of each game. This way you play everyone once as Rome and once as the Barbs.

I gotta try this. It seems that Rome would have the advantage seeing as they control the Victory points. Also, I think that their legions would be nasty out of the gate. Not sure what the Byzantines get for units though...

Well that's 4. I've not played this a lot so I'm not sure what the Byzantines get either. I'd suspect that the Romans will be stronger controlled by a human. Though there are a lot more barbarians.

Byzantine has the same units are western Rome. Byzantine are just Eastern Rome, so naturally they would have the same units.

I'll give it another 24 hours. If there is no more interest we could either:
1 Have a knockout with 4 people.
or
2 Have a league where we each play the other three once. (2 games still though)
or
3 Have a league where we play each other twice. (One game at a time) A sort of Home and away fixture. Home being the Romans

What do you think?

I would prefer option two, but if you explain option three better and more thouroughly I might change it to three.

Well in option 3 I was thinking that we could play against different people. Still 2 games at a time but mixed up so you play 2 of the players one as Rome and another as Barbs.

Just a bit more sociable. I guess also that way you can refine your strategy more quickly by learning from more players at once

That would be three rounds so everyone has played everyone else. I'll put up a league table so you can see your standing If we go with 2 or 3

Well it started out as a knockout contest like the Kamikaze (LouLongs pacific war knockout) one but we started to rethink the idea when there were not eight players interested.
However, it is probably better for a league idea where you play a number of games against the other players then you will not only get to play one set of games if you loose.

With Yama that makes six which would be 5 sets of games.
Maybe we should stop there before it gets too big.

I like the 3rd league option where we play different players in each game. I'll set up a list in the reserved posts, see what you think.
