Possible timespan 1492 - 1775

Facts
Since there is only one unfinished project covering this timespan, and i really wanted to play CIV3 during this years, i decided to start a mod.
The main idea is to develop the complex political situation in Europe with the most possible detail, the rest of the world would be only be represented by few important races and tribes like barbarians.

Gameplay
I really loved El Justo work on AoI, btw I'm sending him a PM to check this post for his blessing after i write this.
So i'm planning to do some similar work, as the one done with AoI, what i plan to do is:
-Ban trade for turn speed purposes and game reality.
-There will be lot of ports in the world that will generate merchant shipments.
-This last feature would allow me to build a complex mechanism of trade shipments, the idea is to make something similar to AoI but with a bit more detail (different Resources/Buildings will generate different trade shipments).
-Settlers will be available, adding the Cheezy ideas of ideal city locations.
-Exploration would be hard, as starting ships won't be able to sail to fast).
-Tech tree and units would be developed for each nation when possible.
-Social classes will allow to make each area available to build specific units and buildings.
-To limit culture expansion and deformation of the map, i will try to avoid adding all culture buildings, unless anybody have an idea on how to limit city area grown (which starts up with 10 culture)..
-I deleted all Nations, Buildings , Tech and Units from Standard game, and i decided to add em one by one, by hand, long work, but will have better results..

Some resources were removed from the Strategic list, since there won't be overseas trade, and i don't want Europeans to trade Farmers Pop for resources (for example), and also because of the reduced place to place resources in countries like Netherlands and Venice. At the end there is no point in have many Strategic Resources, the idea of this Scenario is to explore, conquest and bring trade shipments home anyway.

Eras and Tech Tree:
Spoiler :

Eras: Medieval, Exploration 1492, Reformation 1517, Mercantilism 1617.

I will define this eras for tech as well, European countries and Ottomans (The only non European country able to kinda keep up with the Europeans) will start in the exploration era (some of em with better techs from start).

All the rest of the world would be divided by cultures (Agrarian American, Warchief American, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Buddhist), giving em some basic units and capacity to develop few of the techs up to the Exploration Era (things mainly involving trade, calendars, and better non gunpowder units).

Medieval Tech Tree:
Nearly done, have make pedia icons.

Very well presented Birdmanz.

I think you should include the Netherlands.

Thanks!

Well i would love too add em, honestly i love their culture, and how that few could do so much, this era covers their golder era as well and the start of their decay, believe me if Netherlands would be included, that would be the first country i will play..

It's just unhistorical to have em there by that time, maybe i can develop some events, tough i can't tell if i will be able to release a rebellion, i really never worked with CIV3 events, so far all work i did was playing a lot with the editor, anyone with a cool idea to solve this?

I don't remember of any mod using date events for CIV3, correct me if i'm mistaken and please tell me what mod uses events, so at least i can check em.

I think the Ottomans should be slightly bigger. Here's a map of their expansions according to time (it's super freakin huge, I'll include a link to the page also):
Spoiler :

Or perhaps, if not bigger, than very strong, so they can capture the lands they did historically.

Again Timeline, check how the expansion was up to 1481 in your map, i used good historic resources to set the map up. They should be aggressive for sure so they continue expanding, since they weren't at their peak expansion point in history by 1492 (in the 1400 they beaten off the Byzantines, grabbed lands in the Balkans, vassallaged the Romanian Princes: Wallachia and Moldavia, and Bought the Crimean Ports off from the Genoese: this last realised there was not other option since they had to pass trough the Bosporus anyway).
You can even see that in 1492 they didn't had full control of Anatolia, there was other Muslim groups controlling eastern areas of it.

So the work would be to make this nation to handle one of the biggest military land forces for the first years, since they start to decay trough technologically staying behind (something of this will be reflected in their tech tree).

Great map btw, and thanks!

Note: On the map you posted they occupy most of Crimea, but in 1492 there was a Muslim/Tatar nation in the area that handled the inland portion except for the ex Genoese ports, this nation was called Crimea or something, i think, and im unsure if they were vassallised by the Ottomans at any point..

I didn't create this map actually, this is one I had found online.

Looks great, and you have my support should you need it. However, despite loving original names I must advice you against using non-english characters like the spanish "n" and umlauts. It will make the game crash with plenty of computers.

By the way I think you forgot Ireland. Probably just a chiefdom and not quite relevant as far as exploration goes, but they should be there!

Ireland was already occupied by England in 1492, thats why there are 2 cities in Ireland that are English.

On the other hand, you are right about the characters, i guess i will avoid using em for now, thanks for the advise.

You asked me if i need support, well i do, its not a hard task, i need to find unit graphics for each country during this era, there are plenty of em in the forum, its just that im doing so many things atm, i was concentrating on resources, making the images and defining what they give, etc.

Also i need better building graphics to define each era.

England only had a few strongholds in Ireland, the rest of the country was run by independent chiefdoms.
And as for the units, you should first have a list of the units you want to give to each civ. Then you can decide which one of the multiple choices you have here fits.

Mm you are right about that, i guess i can include Ireland with 2 cities if i add 1 more to England, have any historic map of the area by 1492?

I still got a lot of countries left to place elsewhere (since there won't be many non European Nations moded).

Btw im defining what units i will give to each kind of civ, im doing it globally now, there will be personalized units for European Mayors.

I still have a lot of planning to do, but check what i already wrote and tell me what you think.

QUESTION: Is there any way to make Barbarians towns? otherwise i would have to create a general country for each kind of non European Culture, in this countries or barbarians, only ports will be Reresented (this cities are there to be picked up by Europeans and trade its resources)..

On Lithuania, I think you should combine them with Poland (which happened in real life, in this scenario's time frame, too)

Other things I would suggest based on the map above are:
1. Add in Egypt and Russia
2. Add in the Berbers
3. Give Portugal the city "Ceuta", located at that sticky-outy bit just above the wheat in NW Africa
4. Add in the Netherlands, definitely. I'm not sure on the facts, but I think that Austria and Holland would not have been the best of allies in this period (since the Netherlands were Protestant and Austria was Catholic)

This is looking really great so far! :)

Do you know how to keep the europeans from colonizing america? I do don't have time to explain how now though.

1. OMG if forgot i still had to add Russia, well i ran out of Countries Easy i bet, Egypt historically was occupied in the 1500's is there any point in adding em?.
2. I can't tell about Berbers, they were fine traders, but im running out of tags, and i want to keep the Political Depth in Europe.
3. Yes indeed, i forgot about that, thanks for remainding of the invasion in 1415, i just read that Henry the Navigator along with many other princes participated in the conquest.
4. Mmm the fact is that in 1492 Dutch people was still Catholic the Reformation didn't had come yet.
And the Dutch revolted from Spain, since after the Hapsburg and Spanish crown union Lowlands was passed to Spain, Austria kept a few territories in France only (old lands of Burgundy).
So if i add the Dutch they won't gain any personalized tech/unit until the Reformation Era.

Yes Ideal city locations. Shown in cheezy the Whiz's mod. You'll have to autoproduce the cetlars though.
