Don't waste your workers by building outposts if you are fortunate enough to have a civ with the expansionist trait!

I am currently playing the Americans at emperor level, large map. The Germans and myself are currently sharing a pretty large landmass.

Even after sending a few lame units to try to attack me (we also had a peace treaty & ROP).

My little scouts saved my A$$ :goodjob:

I positioned them close to enemy movement routes on mountaintops and it gave me the upper hand.

Better than wasting a worker on building an outpost..

I think scouts are the best unit in Civ3. Earlier contact plus a better world map equal a very strong start. Expansionistic has nearly caught up to Industrious in my mind, which is why I only use the Americans in my solo (non OCC) games. I've never really had a use for outposts. I guess they save 1gpt compared to using a scout or warrior, but an extra worker early in the game when you would need an outpost is definitely worth more than 1gpt.

Indeed, I never use outposts....far better to just leave the worker there and fortify him. It won't cost you anything until you're in republic, and at that stage, 1gpt is a fairly piddling amount.
