Screenshot analysis!

With a range of 1. That's kind of how I always thought gunpowder units should function... but then, I also thought that ranged units should be allowed to counter-attack when attacked by other ranged units [emoji14]

So it's functionally similar to a gatling/machine gun, but with better mobility.
Isnt it exactly the same as a gattling gun (besides the plus one movement)? Its even the same era.

I think Eagle Pursuit was referring to the text: "Fast-moving industrial era melee unit"

I am guessing that is because it is a scout upgrade (exact same text as scout, changing "ancient" to "industrial")

It's possible we don't have real melee units starting from gunpowder, just 1-range ranged units. It looks quite weird to me, but is possible. We can't tell how well it would work until seeing it in action.

Well there's something about those cliffs... :D

That could be. They probably did a copy/paste and forgot to change the unit type. I'll chalk it up to the tool tips still being a WIP.

EDIT: Also, from what I've seen of the Promotion so far, it doesn't appear that units switching from melee to ranged or vise versa will have any wasted promotions. I don't recall seeing any mention of melee or ranged attacks in any of them.

Yes, but my impression was that it was a reconnaissance unit and might use similar promotions (ignores terrain cost for hills, etc). It's possible this is not the case, however, as the tooltip seen here does not suggest this, so my assumption may well have been in error. 3 move is fairly significant, but not as much as if it also had access to scout-line promotions.

So, do both scout and crossbow upgrade to ranger?

Also, did someone check if infantry is a melee unit or has a ranged attack? :p

Sounds like Indian UI to me, eh?

Also, never heard of these before but was just looking through some google images . . . what amazing and beautiful, yet functional works of engineering.

Ha, should have read more than the first paragraph! Yes it does sound like an Indian unique.

Edit: probably an Indian unique Aqueduct - the first ones in the world were in that area iirc.

Edit2: Never mind, it says "improvement"

Ya know, this has been bugging me for a while. Have we seen any evidence yet that units actually upgrade? I'll admit I haven't watched every video released, so maybe someone can confirm seeing someone upgrade a unit or a unit having an upgrade icon. I sure hope they do, because otherwise I'd view it as a step backward for the series
