Screenshot with a spy and mssions

I don't think they would implement a feature that drains massive amounts of GPT from you which you can't take action to stop. Also they would have to explain to you why it's occurring, which would clue you in that there's a spy mission happening. But we'll see.

Yes but again all of that is true of stealing a Great Work. And it's not the case that you can't take action to stop it... the action you need to take is protect yourself better from spies.

Yes, if you read the description for France it says that after researching castles they gain the ability to BUILD an extra spy.

Where? on the actual in-game screen? Wasn't paying attention. All we knew up until today is they got an extra spy.

What is the 'fail' mission chance if any?

I presume that the percentages on the options are the likelyhood of success, meaning the chance of failure is the remainder of 100%-(Success chance)

It's interesting that different district has an action associated with it. Makes me wonder if you can stall prouduction in an Industrial Zone or Poison water supply in an aqueduct.

LOL at stealing great works. That's actually amazing.

Now that's funny :) - Who are those civ 5 youtuber actors again?

Yeah, so you missed my point so.

That vid came out today, in a torrent of information from hundreds of sources.

We knew France got a free spy with castles, so that screenshot just showed that they are a unit instead of Civ 3/5/BE system :P

Where is the "Poison the well" mission? (Sorry, former Civ2 player here ;) ) I do hope we'll be able to steal techs & sabotage improvements and buildings!

Siphon Funds sounds very powerful. Espionage can't be ignored with abilities that can basically send your economy down the drain. I am not sure I like it. If done right, it can be a great additional layer of gameplay. If not done right, it will feel extremely punishing.

I believe it's a trader-like unit. It shows and have icon, but I doubt you can actually more it around.

That was the same in civ 5. Trading units were civilian ones such as Settlers and Workers. When they physically ran into a barbarian unit they were killed, not?

But I hope you are right, having to move another unit over the whole map screams micromanagement hell to me. There was also a swarm of American missionaries in one screen shot, so I hope they have good ideas how to make that useful, a good pathfinding mechanism seems needed but then there's the danger of other spies detecting you...

If it's anything like BE then the ability to steal yields doesn't subtract them from the target civs...it just adds it to your coffers.

Oh god! :shifty: Poison Water Supply was also a spy mission in Civilization IV - starting near Sitting Bull was always such a disaster.
So much unhealthiness... Soooo much unhealthiness....... Make it stop!

As for Spies being units, I am at peace with that. :) As long as espionage isn't the mess of a system that it was in Civilization IV (waaaay more complex than it ever needed to be, and for no good reason), moving spies around shouldn't be too bad.

From the looks of it, the system is indeed simplified - and still closer to Civ V's than Civ IV's - so I'm optimistic about it. And there's the possibility that Spies work more like Traders than Missionaries : you build them and then just choose from a menu where they should be deployed. Once they get there, you choose the mission.

I wish Firaxis would do more First Look videos on system mechanics other than just Civilizations... :( Civilizations are great, but our understanding of the game mechanics seems rather lacking in comparison (heck, they have yet to talk about Government Legacy bonus for which America has a bonus to!)

Hmm. I like that one even less. "Conjure money out of thin air" doesn't strike me as a good mechanic.

This is a good assumption to make from the viewpoint of someone who finds moving spies around annoying and tedious, but past Civ games that featured spies did make you move them around on the map as an actual unit, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened here.

We know that available spy missions depend on the kind of districts the city has. Maybe an aqueduct will enable poisoning.

This preview (in German) mentions spies can steal techs from campus districts and sabotage production in industrial districts.
There's also some more on espionage:
You can have 5-6 spies (probably 6 for France and 5 for everybody else).
You can name them yourself.
After they level up they can specialize in different kinds of missions.
If a civ captures your spy and you have one if theirs you can exchange prisoners.

Hmmm. The city-state in the corner has 3 crowns in its icon. Stockholm?

Looks like Stockholm indeed, and I like that because there was a theory that Sweden appears among civ6 initial roster and I disliked that idea :p

On further inspection

- Spys, as we know, are a unit in the world.
- They are not manually moved (whew) (his banner doesn't display movement points)
- There seems to be an icon indication with a city, suggesting they are moved around similiary to Trade Routes

Doesn't the same spy icon show up in Civ5 as well? I'm hoping spies are assigned the same as civ5--there are enough units to move around already. I wish Great People could be assigned to the proper square, also, instead of having to manually move them.
