Sadly I've lost the pic, but I had a protestant Pope once

That must have been oh so epic...

The year is 1497. Emperor Mose I of Venice has gone on a spree of rape throughout France and the HRE. (After all, there can be only one Emperor in Europe) Venice currently holds the plurality of votes for Holy Roman Emperor(Ferrara, Mainz, and the Pope, only Ferrara is guaranteed because of being a vassal). The current Emperor has been reduced to Munich.
A trend in the recent decades of the game has been Austria and France falling apart and rebuilding. This is because Burgundy built up a massive empire, but was inherited by Austria at the historical date, causing it to disintegrate. France and Austria have both fought in the meantime, with France(which was previously split in two by the Burgundy-released Orleans) overrunning Britanny and overall expanding it's dominance over Western Europe again, while Austria lost several provinces to rebels thanks to Venice weakening them.
Now, that trend reversed, with Austria annexing Wurtemburg(connecting their Rhineland provinces with their inherited Tirol provinces), and the Austrians also took Cambrai from France in a war that began just before Venice invaded France. Exommunicated and embargoing Venice on and off, France was ripe for being invaded, and paid the price when Austria and Venice's combined peace offers split it into five separate regions.
Vassals are outlined in black, and I will be able to become Italy in 1522. I rule over the Papacy, have made much of the formerly-Islamic territories Catholic thanks to my set of 6-star missionaries, and overall am poised for dominance as more and more territories have started to become cores(I can actually run my military at 100% mainteance year round and not run a deficit). With the Emperorship coming in the near future, I'm more or less destined to be hegemon of Europe by the late 1500s.
