Close Combat III: I've been doing remarkably well as the Russians: holding off the German onslaught in 1941, ended the Battle of Stalingrad pretty much the day it began. I have a pretty elite company ready to begin the fight towards Germany.

Then it goes horribly, horribly wrong.

Spoiler SUPER DUPER BIG PICTURE :

One Tiger tank. One. It obliterates my T-34 group - the group that led the offensive from Stalingrad. Then it thinks it'll be pretty neat to eradicate my two AA guns - the pair that single-handedly saved Moscow over a year before. Now all I have is infantry in the south, caught in the open and vulnerable, and all I can do is get them to retreat or charge straight into the buildings that contain the main German force.

Not one step back!

This game looks very good... might it be a predecessor of Men of War or some such title?

Haven't gotten round to Men of War yet. You get points that you can spend on whatever units you like that you can afford and throw them against the enemy. Rather slow paced game, sometime frustrating, I'm still drawn to it.

Just for closure: that Tiger was eventually destroyed, despite Captain2's insistence it was a tank driven by Hitler himself.

Probably they ripped it off to some extent. Close Combat is a famous Microsoft games series that goes back to the 1990s. I think the title lives on in Matrix Games' lineup.

Looks like the supreme court, only taller.

Don't need to be so mean. I can get a picture if you really, really want it. :p

I typically just hit random a few times until I see one thats decent :p

It wasn't mean, more of a sarcastic comment about that aspect of Elder Scrolls games in general. I also spend an hour making a face only to cover it with these masks...

I usually run around without a helmet until I get into combat.

Same, then I tweak it a bit (mostly hair, eyes, tattoos if applicable and nose) and then go. Most of the time when I try to make my own it doesn't turn out well.

Tweaking is easier if you play as an argonian.

The final results of the Great Patriotic War. Despite being assigned to seize Berlin, we never did find Adolf Hitler's Tiger tank at the final battle outside the Reichstag, so we can only assume it escaped to Argentina. A shame, as we brought the Joseph Stalin tank specially for the occasion.

The level name "Herman Goring attacks" sounds interesting, I'm picturing a fifty foot commander of the lufttwaffe charging towards your troops and roaring as the Soviets valiantly try to keep their fire concentrated on it.

It was an interesting engagement. We eventually decided to risk crossing the streams. That did the trick.
