Here is the Battle for Kyoto in my most recent Shogun 2 game, as the Chosokabe. I attacked as 3 seperate armies: led by my best general, adopted at the start of the game and a sprightly 54 years old; the Daimyo's oldest son at 20, and a captain of a smaller back-up force.
My archers give covering fire to the brave men storming the castle walls. As you can see, the Ashikaga didn't want me in their castle.
The walls are mine! Time to take the fighting further in.
The survivors of the wall battle look on at the ominous sight of yet another wall to scale.
The Ashikaga just keep on coming! Endless waves of samurai keep hitting my remaining soldiers, who bravely hold the line.
This screenshot is at the edge of the battlefield. My bow cavalry are whittling down enemy reinforcements before they get to the safety of the castle.
The final section of the battle: after the final wall is scaled, there is minimal resistance to face for my exhausted and battered troops. Notice in the last screenshot, a poor Ashikaga bowman getting stabbed in the neck.
And here's the numbers:
The Daimyo's son had to give his life just so his clan could rightfully rule over Japan as Shogun. I planned to make a great general out of him, but unfortunately he fell before I could do that. It was easily the best battle of any Total War I've played, though.
