Those mountains (in the first pic, anyway) are actually kind of a turn off honestly... they look too fake. All else is good, though.

The two pics I posted were also prior to the graphics update that just rolled out :)

The mountains range from good to good enough to at least it isn't Mount&Blade or Skyrim/Oblivion mountains. The mountains on that map work pretty well actually and you're busy enough flying around they don't look anymore fake than they do in any other game.

I thought my neighbor had invited me over for sake. Boy...was I wrong.

Smokescreen deployed?

Welcome to part 1 of the adventures of MisenKan! A character created to honor a couple of really cool cats here at CFC (I'll let you struggle to break my code and figure out who.)

Okay, so basically I am going to be playing a battlemage. I tried this once before and it was an unmitigated failure. Struggling to decide what to perk in the magic and warrior trees and really ending up sucking at both. Hoping to do a little better this time. So without further delay, let the pictoral story of MisenKan begin! Each image is linked thumbnail to the fullsize image.

Here we are at character creation. As you can see, I've chosen Breten. I really should have gone Imperial for their armor, one-hand, enchant, and magic skills, but I just think Breton is a better fit. Why? Well, Kan is from highland country and Bretons are from High Rock! high...high... oh well okay forget that. Both Kan and Mise are from civs that suffered under the English, and Bretons were/are oppressed under both Imperial and Nord rule in The Reach. So, Breton.

As we see here, I've decided to follow that Imperial dude at the beginning. I mean, who knows who those other losers were, but their uniforms were butt ugly and they were about to be beheaded, so they are probably bad people!

Every good mage should join the College of Winterhold. Free bed and the most stylish robes!

So okay, after joining the college, I felt I should take advantage of my innate magical resistance and boost that, so I did Mara's bidding and helped love blossom across Skyrim (+15%) and then got this nifty leather outfit (+15% again, PLUS +50% poison resistance)

But dammit, I'm a battlemage, not a playboy bunny mage.

But I really need some extra magicka since I am not wearing any robes to enhance my regen, so I need that neat hood. (This, btw, is currently the default outfit.)

Damn that Uthgerd. She keeps charging in screwing up my kills. Well I beat her to the punch this time! Bleak falls...cleared.

Hi cutie! (see my previous thread about my first mod) Nothing is really changed except what they wear so I can make them wear whatever armor I want without them being burdened with their default armor weight. That wrecked them as packmules.

Gettin' all gussied up for my big day!

Ka-CHING! 100 gold a day rollin' in! But don't worry, I married her for her mind, not her money.

Stay tuned for more adventures!

Farsight, holy crap, what mod is that?

It's "The Thin Red Line" for Medieval II: Total War. It's kind of underwhelming, to be honest (for starters, you can only really play the Battle of Isandwana).

There's a NTW mod, I think tis called The Orient or something, that includes a few of the battles from that war and has a campaign using the Egyptian/middle east map for the Mahdist War. Its unit sizes are quite large though.

That looks really strange to see skyscrapers in Tropico. I've only ever played the original, where there were no such buildings, and islands generally looked impoverished. That looks downright luxurious.

I decided to try a game that had been sitting on my Steam shelf awhile and whose predecessor I liked - Sim City 4. Built a nice little town on a medium map, and unlike any of my previous Sim Cities, went with low-density housing.

Downtown is pretty much right in the center. Commercial buildings to the southwest of downtown, lots of housing to the east. The east-center area of town is the posh area, where there are actually schools, as well as legitimate hospital. The rest of town got schools a couple years back, but is still mostly uneducated. Heavy, polluting industry is southwest of downtown, helping push land values down - hardly anyone well-off lives west of downtown due to pollution (even where there are schools). A workers' colony is to the far southwest, and there's also some industry to the southeast. But the southeastern industry is manufacturing, and less polluting.

Peaceful, serene, water-polluting farms also feature heavily. They aren't very space-efficient in terms of jobs, but I like that you can actually get farms and have them stick around in this game. In Sim City 3000 it was almost impossible to keep farms around.

Got it to 21,000 people with only low density housing, but by then was running out of space. Probably could have got 25,000 with fewer farms. Now I've started building apartments, and am up to 28,000 people and growing. Current initiative: convince dirty industry to leave, and attract more manufacturing to replace it.

I've found police to be largely unnecessary. There just isn't that much crime, so most of the city is without coverage. I finally built one station in my posh area a few years back, and I'm not sure if they've reached 10 arrests yet. I guess this is a good problem to have, but it seems odd - I had a lot more crime in SC3K. Maybe the low-density layout is helping with that.

Public transportation hasn't done much so far. I built train stations, but I get maybe two dozen people per day across the whole system. I've left the track since it's cheap and already there, but am kind of disappointed. I was pleased to see how much upgrading the streets to roads helped with the congestion issues - so far, I don't really need public transport with some well-placed roads.

I'm considering continuing the trend of the outskirts having the higher density - apartments now, skyscrapers later. I kind of like the low-density posh areas as they are, and wouldn't it be odd to have skyscrapers outside and green lawns downtown?
