Allied Assault is a misleadingly terrible game. The first mission is great, and the D-Day mission is great, but the rest... oh it's so bad.

Especially the sniper town mission. Oh my gosh.

Following some online conversations, I renamed a couple of managers in my FM game after some CFC members to add some incentive to my game.

It backfired. I now hate them both.

Not our fault the competition is so lousy :mischief:

Good God that map sucks. Ah well, we get a better one in 20 hours.

It's not their map, they used a community map for the base. And that one's based on satellites.

And yes, we have seen the whole map, it's visible in the demo and in the pdf file they give out as a free download with V2 copies. They fixed the Middle East. And Central Asia. And Central Europe. And basically everything that looked wrong in all the previous maps. There are a few hiccups - some rivers, for instance, and some of the province/seazone names - but on the whole it's a damn fine piece of work. And I fully expect the zero-day patch to fix most of that.

This time next year Victoria 2 will be an absolutely brilliant game, Hearts of Iron 3 might be also, but tomorrow it will be bug-ridden and unfinished.

Medival Total War - The Elder Scrolls Style! :D

Granted, it would've been better had the guards not headed back to base after the initial attack.

Just played through the first eight years of Victoria 2 as Austria. Fought the Austro-Prussian War of Brothers (1839-1841), sparked by Prussian troop movements in Silesia and efforts to overturn Habsburg influence in the Grand Duchy of Baden. Was able to conquer Prussian Sigmaringen and recover Silesia. After the war, formed the South German Confederation by decision as a satellite. Prussia briefly lost GP status in the aftermath of the war, so I've been scrambling to extend my SoI in north-central Germany to replace it - and dealing with Belgian, Spanish, and French efforts to do the same.

Around the world, Spain is currently at war with the Ottoman Empire, and losing; Morocco is getting carved up, as is Algeria; the United States basically rules North America with its SoI; Brazil has been going on a mad rampage of conquest in the Americas (and has sick infamy as a result); Russia has been quietly extending its SoI into Sweden (!) and contending with the Chinese over Central Asia.

Comments on the war: it was actually a close-run thing for awhile, even though I slightly outnumbered the Prussians in troop numbers, because I launched a series of foolish attacks into Silesia and wasted my org on the Prussians' reservists - like punching a fat guy. Eventually I was forced to mobilize, as well, and surprisingly I could keep my economy afloat pretty easily. There were several colossal battles in Teschen before I managed to trap the major Prussian corps and start overrunning Silesia. It helped that I was able to feint towards Berlin, which drew away a lot of Prussian troops. Meanwhile, my South German buddies slowly mopped up Prussia's Kleinstaaterei allies, then started overrunning Prussian territory along with me. That war was a very fun experience, and I'm anxious to blow off my infamy so I can start some more and add to my SoI the fast way.

Got breech-loading rifles yet, Dachs?

Whoa, I've only been playing 8 years, and finished two techs - both of them industrial. Next on the list is Ideological Thought for a third national focus point. My literacy is abysmal, and I've been using basically all my NF points to get it up again.

one of my best Germany games thus far.

List of date when I first attacked and the date of annexation

Hungary: May 26 - June 2 1938
Poland: August 30 - September 5 1939
Yugoslavia: October 7 - October 25 1939
Norway: March 21 - March 30 1940
France: July 14 - July 29 1940 * Vichy France event fired.
Bulgaria: September 7 - September 20 1940
Romania: October 19 - October 26 1940

I found this picture being quite cool because my V1 rockets really pounded them hard on that attack. If only I could see those sacré blue faces of the French when everything around them is destroyed. I first took the Netherlands in June without declaring war on Belgium. I then positioned my armour divisions around those areas and blitzkrieged the :):):):) out of France. When the Vichy France event fired, I didn't have Metz, Mulhouse and Strasbourg. I just took everything else. Von Manstein raced in 15 days from Rotterdam to Bordeaux.

Russia is still too powerfull, so I am stacking up infantry divisions. I really don't know if I should begin my attack in early August 1941 or if I should wait 1 more year till May 1942 to attack the USSR. If I wait one more year I know that I will have enough troops, probably even meanwhile landing in Africa to assist the Italians. It's just I've always learned to attack the Soviets as soon as possible, with my 176 divisions I should be able to pocket a few Soviet divisions, although I am not sure if that would be enough.

Please advise me about the correct time to attack the USSR
