I know you guys are planning to eventually replace all civs with cultures but I feel like that's gonna be awhile. I kinda want to play as some kind of Eastern European steppe civ such as the Scythians, Dacians, or Thracians. Maybe the Huns? Would it be possible to make placeholder civs until the cultural idea comes to fruition? Plus I've also seen the CSA in the snv files but they are deactivated. Is there anyway to activate this civ?

You could look in the ModMod Section, there's Sparth's Civilization Megapack, Unsure if Any of them are in there, but I use it for Armenia all the time, it also contains all the removed Civilizations when they reduced the amount of Civ's back close to vanilla

Btw, Huns are Mongolians, Scythia where Iranian Nomads, Dacia and Thracia You where correct about

Wait so all the cultures in the game will eventually be playable? When is this expected cause this sounds amazing!

Don't hold your breath ;). There are 399 cultures, and a lot of those weren't civilizations as much as a tribe or single city. We simply lack historical data to make most of them into playable civs.

If you have ideas about how cultures work in game and their playability join the discussion about the 'idea' project.
If you have some ideas about specific cultures and their requirements or special units please write them out in the cultural database threat or database itself.

All feedback is welcome =)

I believe the Idea would be that your Civilization will begin as generic, Red, Blue, Teal, and with Cultures you get a name, and develop from there, But I don't work on this project, nor would be much use to the project beyond my bug reports and notes

Those civs are included.

You meant Included in the ModMod? Bit of an ambiguous statement that could mean more then one thing (no criticism just noting it), I never really paid attention what's in it, I just know Armenia is in it, because that's the reason I use it :)

So we can develop into any of the cultures? Say I start in the desert. I could eventually become the Persians, Timurid, etc.

Well, you can't. but that's one of the ideas floating about around it that I've picked up, and If that would be possible it would be very cool
(being just Practical on how things are with the current version before someone would read things wrong and end up being all "Fake News!")

I agree. Caveman has already strayed above and beyond what a civ game is so I feel at this point they should go wild with ideas like this instead of having to stick to the civ formula.

Recent discussion in the Ideas thread explain this plan in detail. You're welcome to join in and ask more questions or comment on it there.

At this point it might not even be too bad of an idea to write their own engine and cut out the trouble with Civ itself, but Knowing how Firaxis and 2K would respond maybe not too wise, (Predynastic Egypt used to use the name Civilization in their name and was forced to change their name or just lose everything)

There's been discussion on that elsewhere. It really would be a new game and there's still too much to learn to setup a whole new architecture at the moment. But it's a probable future project.

not to mention the Legal Swamps one has to chart and drain ;)

There's nothing that can be done about that really. We've discussed that with a few people here. It would be unlikely that we could have any kind of working relationship with Firaxis. Best to steer clear of that territory entirely. Easy enough to redesign the game enough to get it outside the realm of proprietary info I believe. Quite a few things I'd change about the basics of the game platform if I was to go that route. I'd separate materials and labor, food would be for population support rather than population generation, units would start as generic, unequipped and untrained and would be then specialized and equipped from the bottom up and could pick up different mounts/vehicles, equipment, ships, etc... Then things like Civics and such would just need some renaming and reworking and so on. Quite a lot I'd do differently if we were starting from scratch. Enough to be its own game but with the same basic intent.

Which would mean Two legal Swamps :P

Neither would be since you'd be presenting a completely unique game unless you wanted to actually try to use their names on anything, even their naming on game objects should be avoided.

But that's not an issue. I have a good game named picked out. Just not sharing it here.

Good idea keeping the best ideas under your hat, I do so too, last thing you'd want is someone running with it and leaving you with nothing

I'm sure designers may take from some of the best ideas here and if they do, cool. That's part of the point is to establish some new possible ways to do things using this as a laboratory to explore them.
