England had some far flung, yet highly productive colonies. Under the current system, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa, the North American Colonies, and India can't be productive.

So what about a corruption discount for seafaring civs to encourage them to build a costal civ (or a far flung civ) just like the English, the Spanish, the Dutch, the Phonecians, and the post Great War Japanese.

Maybe a 90% discount on corruption for the first 2 colonies, or a discount dependent upon the size or their fleet, or something.

That would be incredibly enjoyable for me.

Colonial cities. Colonies as in the kind produced by workers don't suffer from corruption, just expanding borders.

I totally agree (it was actually one of my propositions for seafaring civ) that a seafaring civ should have lowered corruption in overseas cities. Provided they have a harbor though, that could be the limit.

It would be cool if harbor halved corruption for Seafaring civs.

Even if they don't that is something that can be modded pretty easily. What I wanted was kind of an automatic harbor when they build the city (just makes it one shield then). Pb is it might really unbalance the game.

This is a good idea; however, what I'd like to see is these colonies striving for independence. The more cities on the continent, the greater chance of a war for independence and a new, breakaway civilization with leaderhead, UU etc.

The idea in this thread is a good one; however, what I'd prefer to see is some of the colonies on distant lands striving for independence - possibly the larger number of cities on a foreign continent and the distance from the capital being factors to determine the likelihood of a war of independence.

A possible solution could be that Seafaring improvements, like Harbours, Commercial Ports and Port Facilities can have a similar effect to courthouses and police stations for Seafaring Civs!!! Speaking of which, given that many other types of improvements have three 'levels', so to speak, shouldn't we have three levels of corruption-reducing improvements-i.e. a courthouse in the ancient age, a police station in the industrial age, and a middle-level improvement in the Middle Ages!!

Another suggestion I came up with last night.

Wouldn't it be interesting if "continental" wonders (like the Pyramids and Sun Tzu's) have their effects applied to all cities on the same continent AND, in addition, to cities with a harbor on other continents. For seafaring civs only, of course.

I think this would reflect the culture of their motherland that soldiers, civil servants and governors brought with them as they sailed to work and live in the colonies.

You know, Aeldrick, I actually think that WOULD be a good idea :)!!!

so many great ideas around here, so few guys from firaxis listening.... I hope they spend a few weeks studying all this material before making CIV4..... What I most miss is also a possibility to regulate Polution as in CIV2 and like you have it for corruption in the editor....

I like tha idea, but you need to give more special gifs to the other kind of civs or it could be to eassy for the seafaring civs.

Cheap harbours and ships and maybe extra movement for ships as well. But that would possibly make the Great Lighthouse less valuable?

I think it would make the light house more valuble- it would give seafaring civ a HUGE advantage over non-seafaring civs...
