Sengir03 - The Orwellian State

Sorry for the delay. I also only had time to play and not write up a report. My apologies. I can summarize my set with this though:

Spoiler :
Wang Kon never existed, he was a figment of the fevered imagination of Emmanuel Goldstein!!

Report in The Times 18th October 5475.

1) nocho << On Deck ?
2) happyturtle
3) IPEX-731BA5DD06
4) Whosit (afraid he is not good enough for BB, so volunteering at the Malabar front.)
5) Brian Shanahan
6) Norvin Green
7) Sengir << Up?

Not sure if Sengir's post was an official 'back' or not.

I'll try to play this weekend. Anybody care to inform me of Big Brothers plan for the near future, so I don't have to dig up everything from the last 10 pages?

Assimilate the America's? Or at least prepare for that and the subsequent obligatory declaration on one of the big guys.

I imagine it's the obligatory rebuild the economy after war and restage units for the next one.

The economy never needs rebuilding, it constantly exceeds the Tree-Year plans BB lays down in his wisdom. Move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

Bah, real life is no fun at all. Server crash at a client of mine and my sister got hospitalized. I'm not going to play this game this weekend, so please skip me for another round.

For a second there I was going "Where's Whosit?" Without the Malabar front gag he's a bit of an unperson.

Ok, will try to get to it one of these days. A bit time-pressed so expect a Norvin-style report. :p

Undoubtedly we have Goldstein to blame, but as the site was too busy yesterday evening due to stupid Civ5 being launched, couldn't download the save and play as I had planned. Now I won't have time until Wednesday next week (29th) the earliest, so I'm deeply sorry, but I need to be skipped.

The Queen is up, long live the Queen!

This actually works out well, as I'm better at rebuilding after a war than actually waging war.

First up: Civics

We can force out a GP in Seoul in 8 turns for a MM prolonged golden age, and change civics then, saving us 2-4 turns of anarchy. Just need to decide what to change to!

Govt: If we want to give up our Chemistry monopoly, we can trade for Constitution / Representation. Keeping Chemistry lets us hassle people with privateers for a while, earning money, and letting them upgrade to highly promoted battleships.

Legal: As per our variant, Free Speech is out, but with our number of cities and excess happiness, Nationhood might be a good one. Or should we stick with Vassalage?

Labor: Stick with slavery. :whipped: In fact, I'm going to use the whip heavily in my turnset.

Econ: Mercantilism. Free specialist, definitely. Though that synergizes a lot better with Representation.

Religion: Theocracy or OR? Pacifism and Free Religion are right out, of course. I'm thinking OR for :whipped: buildings.

Other than civics, I'll be whipping in every city early, so that the anger will be worn off by IPEX's turn, working towards getting out a Great Prophet for the We Love Big Brother Charity Foundation (Buddhist Shrine), and restaging troops for the war on Washington and Sitting Bull.

Possibly building 1 or 2 stacks of Privateers to hassle Washington, depending on what the decision is about Chemistry.

Random note: Zara is scary advanced! Any ideas on how we can slow him down?

What you'll be so busy celebrating my birthday you won't be able to touch Civ (it's the 29th). I'm touched.

That reminds me I'm away from Friday to sometime Sunday (and I won't be near internet either).

Edit: slowing down Zara calls for a SoD or some screamers to nuke him out of existence.

My input;

Civics-

Representation along with Mercantilism is a Must.

Nation hood for the Labour civic, 25% espionage (fits the Variant ) and +2 :)
Once the Slavery whipping is over with, and we look to swap out of Organised religion, I feel we also need Caste System, for the +1:hammers: and unlimited Specialists in Scientists, Merchants and Artists. Grow the cities to the point where, whipping loses is effectiveness and working tiles, workshops and farms is more beneficial.

Economy, I've covered with Mercantilism, we are at war to save the world.

Organised Religion for the whipping effect, with a eventual swap into Theocracy. Of the 6 cities that don't have Buddhism, only Capital city is a major one, and not a Troop producer at that so :p

So what does all this require, a trade for Constitution. Chemistry is out there, and the age of Privateers is over, before we even arrived there.

Definitely swap in a golden age, pump out an Artist from Seoul. hold till objectives are achieved, saving 5 turns of anarchy.

Going Theocracy, which is Zara's Favourite civic, will help there, even with the Heathen religion modifiers.

But!!!!

Long term, Zara is the Threat, We'll have to go to war with him as the permanent war target to slow him down, he has Communism, is in state property, Darius is in free religion, Favourite civic.

Unfortunately, they are both pleased with each other, and will trade freely. We're going to be caught up in war, and isolation from now on.

Caste system to pound out those troops/ships. Spying to watch the others, Theocracy to bolster the troops morale, Representation to delude the masses.

We must fight to save our Glorious revolution, and the world from these other despots.

I'd just like to slip in and say that if I come up in the roster on the weekend, I can probably actually play. Real life is still very, very busy. :( Still have to catch up here. But if I'm very lucky, I may actually contribute before the game is over!

P.S.: I was never here. I was always here. :mischief:

Well unlike Whosit I cannot play the weekend. I'm going up home to celebrate my birthday (actually the 29th) and my internet access will be intermittent at best, and I'll be off civ.
