Can a SATA 1 drive be plugged into a SATA 2 port?

Right now my PC has 1 SATA 2 port and 2 SATA 1 ports. The SATA 2 is already taken, the 2 SATA 1 ports are vacant. To add a drive to this system, I must buy a SATA 1 drive. My concern is, since SATA 1 specification is going out of style (looks like everyone is moving to SATA 2 nowadays) would my drive be useless in the future when I upgrade my motherboard?

Yes, the two are fully compatible. A SATA150 drive in a SATAII port will run as normal, and a SATAII drive on a SATA150 port will be limited to 150 MB/s (not that it hits it anyway) and IIRC the SATAII features like NCQ won't work.
