Sesn02 - The Bare Necessities, NOT

It has certainly been discussed, and is likely. In reality, once we build a bunch of those corrupt little towns, we'd have a tough time ever exceeding unit support, as we found out in Bede02. Of course, that adds to overall corruption, which is not exactly a strong point of Feudalism anyhow....

EDIT: well, not true ICS, that seems exploitive, but certainly squeeze a few 'fishing villages' in. :D

And BTW, you do know that there are ways the game could force you to break your variant, right?

And that was a really fast reply, Sesn.

And BTW, you do know that there are ways the game could force you to break your variant, right?

How so? We already said the GL had to be razed....

EDIT: I'm bored and keep checking the usercp. :D

You had to play with no barbarians. Also, you can't build the ToE because you might never finish it due to AI attacks sending the city into disorder, and then if you do finish it after you finish the tech tree, you are forced to get an optional tech. :D

Ah-ha, think I got you on this one.

First, we discussed the barb possibility, which was remote anyhow. We decided if an opt tech could be popped, we couldn't get the hut.

Second, that's really reaching. ;) I mean, don't you think someone else would get ToE long before the tech tree was finished.

I understand that there were possibilities, but I figured you meant realistic possibilities. :p

We decided if an opt tech could be popped, we couldn't get the hut.
What if it gets popped when your capital expands its influence?

Please don't give me a good answer because I'm out of other ways to make it more obscure. (Can a hut pop a tech like Lit if you are in the Middle Ages?)

Sox fans.. :shakehead

@Tomo: :wavey: Hey - wanna pick up my turns if I get sacked by this hurricane? :crazyeye:

...and don't sweat it... between Sesn, Bugs, Bede, and me... we've got this Feudalism slugfesting down pat. And if you believe that, I've got this wonderful real estate investment for you with a great view of the east river on both sides.... Whoops... Bugsy isn't in this one, is he?!?!?

Please don't give me a good answer because I'm out of other ways to make it more obscure. (Can a hut pop a tech like Lit if you are in the Middle Ages?)

:rotfl:

To give you a serious answer on the second part, AFAIK the hut could give you a tech, as long as there is at least one AA tech, and you aren't researching it.

EDIT: Us Sox fans have to stick together. Tomoyo's my spy, right in the heart of the Empire :evil:

(Also doesn't have Conquests....:shakehead: )

Yikes, I AM tired. I meant to click Manage Attachments and submitted instead. Insane in the Membrane?

Ah well, here it is:

Pre-turn - Only change is to let Plymouth to borrow the wheat from Hyannis for a turn. The wheat can be borrowed by Plymouth now and again, check that)

3 workers to iron.

975bc - Rome completes Colossus.

Hyannis Jag -> warrior
Sandwich barracks -> warrior

Only one worker will road the iron for now, the others will chop forest for the new town.

Decide that Garfaln don't need a temple yet, barracks is better.

950bc - Byz are building MoM (Constantinople) and Pyramids (Adrianople)! That's pretty greedy, don't you think?

925bc - Hyannis warrior -> settler
Oasis Creek worker -> warrior

Looter's Bend is founded on the suggested spot next to the Bab spear -> temple.

This is trouble, Cotuit is pop 6 and unhappy, make a scientist by keeping shield-tiles and Maths still in 7t. Luxtax wouldn't give us any gpt and now we have at least 5gpt. That will get lower though, and I might have to lower research further soon.

900bc - Fp-message. The babs spear leaves our territory.

Garfaln barracks -> warrior

2 workers chopped one forest towards LB's temple, move to chop another. Continue to use chops for the temple.

I'm not as good with the arithmetic as Bede, but I think I will step up the science now, and then turn off research for a few turns. Lemme see, 90% and Maths in 4t at -7gpt.
Yes, I do that and we take back what we lost quickly later (1.5 turns if I count right).

875bc - Constantinople completes Mausoleum of Mausollos.

Silly Hammurabi wants 29g, I tell him where to go and he backs off. We are average in military (checked that ages ago) and he wouldn't do a stupid rush yet. But there are barbs somewhere close to LB.

RushPoint and Dasterwall barracks -> warriors.

850bc - Inca completes the Pyramids. And Maya grabs the Oracle.

Oasis Creek warrior -> warrior
Plainville barracks -> warrior
Sandwich warrior -> warrior

825bc - Byz starts the Lighthouse.

Hyannis settler -> warrior. Send the settler to the coast, we need another city for boat-building.

MM towns to get warriors within 2t with less growth, iron will be connected in 3t so I want another set of warriors in the builds before that.

800bc - We learn Maths -> Lit at zero. Optional tech without research, is alright? Sometimes this tricks the AI to research the upper branch quicker, not confirmed tho. But let me have my beliefs.

Oasis Creek warrior -> settler
Plymouth galley -> galley
Garfaln warrior -> warrior

Our horses are connected.

Statue of Zeus in 5t with no growth, that's fine for now.

Both Babs and Byz knows CoL, but not Maths. Neither has got ivory, so I boldly sell them Maths to continue the research for us.

Maths to Byz for CoL and 57g, Babs gets it for 197g :thumbsup: More swords for us.

We are doing 28gpt with 441 in the kitty.

775bc - Hyannis warrior -> horseman
Plainville warrior -> warrior
RushPoint warrior -> warrior
Dasterwall warrior -> warrior
Sandwich warrior -> warrior

Whack a barbcamp for 25g.

750bc - Byz asks us politely to leave their territory (galley)

Ocean View founded -> galley

I took the wrong turn with the northern curragh, send it eastwards please. We have to check out the coast of Babs-land.

We have 523g and make 35gpt atm, a dozen swords should do it I think, plus the odd horses.

Don't upgrade Jags yet, but we DO NOT want a GA now. Just be careful, when you wage the war.

War should be started quite soon, just remove all Jags from Byz troops (there's a couple NE and a byz warrior there too, he wouldn't hesitate to start our golden age. If any of those are to be attacked, disband them instead before the attack.

Continue chopping forests by Looter's Bend, chops outside borders count (as long as the chop would be within expanded borders)

I left all upgrades as a courtesy to next player, as well as the decision if we should start some research on something. NOT LITERATURE THOUGH! :lol:
Just remember I'm a sucker for horses and want a quite few of them, so start building them.

SoZ is done in 3t.

Some average turns, but I'm dead tired and couldn't focus really.

Hmm, I thought a city could only receive one chop per build? I guess not from the rest of your log....

Fine with me. Heck if you find an occasion to actually invest beakers, that's fine too, just so lonag as we don't actually learn it.

Better yet, keep the jags well away from the action.

Speed is good.

Sesn - On Deck

Just remember I'm a sucker for horses...
He's not kiddin' here team. I have this sneaking suspicion Goz is gonna leave somebody a stack of ponies in a position to "attack in any direction'. :D

SoZ is done in 3t.
More ponies for Goz!!! :hammer:

@Goz: I'll take "average turns" from you any day, my friend.

Question for the team: Shall we let Theodora buld some wonders for us before we make her all pouty-faced?

Question for the team: Shall we let Theodora buld some wonders for us before we make her all pouty-faced?

She already built the MoM, useless hunk of stone that it is. Is she in progress with any others? We have more land to fill if it would serve us to wait, but otherwise.....:hammer:

Okay...here's the master plan:

1) Theodora builds the Great Lighthouse for us.
2) We take the Great Lighthouse.
3) Goz takes a galley, a combat settler and an Ancient Cavalry, founds a ...'toehold town' on the other continent
4) Scout figures out a way to engineer a breakout...

We missed out on Pyramids, Inca built it. There's no reason at all to keep Theodora in the game anymore. (If she didn't start on something I missed?)

Yes, horses. scout like to play after me, because I have a tendency to give him a few units to fight with, and it IS pre-determined by me. If I only could play one of those funny turns myself? Ah well, we are a team and I would be happy to set the same stuff up for the player after me, but only as long as people listen and build them horsies :) I'm no magician.

Maybe I am anyways, I have to brag here. Newest COTM, I played that today and got something like 20+ towns by 1000bc, 22 is my record from before and I didn't check how many I got this time, I will later after a sleep. But it might be 23.

My concentration on warriors was only for the upgrade phase, no more swords after that, only horses. We want speed after this first war - *Sesn - Speed is good.*

Counter that, a few Jags won't hurt us as they go easily to elites and moves quick as well. Just look in the city screens and make the best choice of units.

*suddenly loses interst in COTM*

You know, I flubbed the factory a couple of times, but still only ended up with a dozen or so. I'm obviously doing someting wrong.....

I thought Theodora was building the Great Lighthouse?

@Gozpel: I left a decent setup in Ankka's Open Ottoman game... 2 Janissary Armies, 2 Sipahi Armies, and a whole bunch of Grand Batteries... that game is still going...though Bugsy played a set since I did...We'll have to play a game that has you following me. I like doing setups too.. :D
Yes, horses. scout like to play after me, because I have a tendency to give him a few units to fight with,
A few? :lol: With advice like: "Go fight the Romans"... but leaving out little tidbits like... "oh, and by the way, if you're smart enough to figure it out, I've left you the wherewithall to sack ROME if you have the guts."

Make no mistake about it. Following Goz is a Good Thing.
I'm no magician.
Hehehe... nope. Just a poor, warmongering fool. Like me. :D

...and I'm gonna have to check out the results of that COTM effort of yours. that sounds like a Good One. :thumbsup:

Something to consider with Jags... we can build them all over the place, then move them quickly to the front, upgrade them to swords...

"3) Goz takes a galley, a combat settler and an Ancient Cavalry, founds a ...'toehold town' on the other continent"

Well, I wouldn't bother with ONE offensive unit, but you're right. I do that alot. Sometimes when your galley with a settler and a unit enters another continent, you can almost always find a "safe" spot to found a city if it's early enough. Other times you actually have to declare war before you drop off that settler with his 15-20 units for defense.

It's a tricky quest, but great fun :) After all, I'm really a builder.

Any good ideas for names for a stronghold for aztecs?

Gozpelcuhtli Stronghold (would mean Lord gozpel's stronghold :))

I actually have a page somewhere with some authentic aztec words and the word Cuthli (lord) kinda stuck with me.

Maybe Coatl is better for the game, it means snake :)

Hmmm... How do these sound for "authentic, Swede in the Outback Aztec" City names:

Gozpelcuhtli Let'sWhack'emAll
Gozpelcuhtli StickItTo'emAll
Gozpelcuhtli GonnaSackYouAll
TenToOneGozWillPokeYouAll...

...just an idea or two. :crazyeye:
