SevoMod 3

Speaking of large civilization games like mentioned previously, 18 civs, etc is there anyway to have it set to make use of all the continents on the terra maps from the beginning? It's bad, but It took me several games to realize that all civs start on the old world and out of many games played, almost NEVER bother to go to the new world continent grouping for some reason(usually on the near island clusters if any) now I've had some fun every couple of turns editing barbarian cities say to cover that continent, but it just seems odd the AI ignores the other area so often, ideas?

I just realised a strange thing with the tech-tree you somehow can get Rocketry very early from artillery. This made sam infantry appear before any flying things which is pretty strange.

I myself changed it so it required Computers and Industialisation and Flight. This would put it in better time frame compared to other techs.

Thanks for a great mod.

I also have a question, I play on huge map and it gets very slow in the end game. Any advice to allivate this?. I have a pretty good computer Dual Opteron at 2.6 Ghz and 2 Gig of Memory and two raptors and vanilla plays much better. Also load times are much longer!

I still wont switch back but because of this.. Sevomod rocks!

Thanks; unfortunately, the slowdown in game speed on the larger maps is a result of the larger memory requirements, and in some cases the python code. I'm afraid we're stuck with it for the time being, until some code optimizations can be done.

I have a problem with this mod - upon starting a new game, much of everything seems blank! There are no icons to select, all I see is my scout and my settler and the rest of the world. I'm also unable to rectify anything in the options menu and I'm unable to check the Civilopedia, see my technology tree (or anything else relating to the advisory menus!) Help!

I'm an absolute newbie by the way, both on this very forum and with playing Civilization on the whole.

You either didn't upgrade Vanilla civ4 all the way to 1.61...well, probably that's the problem.

@Black Rose: Size 1 cities always auto-raze. The ancient temples will give you a cash bonus when you're done with them, and they are demolished. (i.e., it's supposed to become city ruins).

@Brancaleon: Forest growth probably does need to be slowed down a bit. Sorry you think the traits are boring.

@s_c_mikkelsen : Uh...that's messed up. Your laptop's graphic drivers are the likely culprit; does it work okay with vanilla civ4?

Aaand: an update on the mod:

To Do:
- A lot of little changes as discussed in the thread to balance techs, units, traits a little more
- The SDK changes (in progress--good stuff)
- Add CivGold-2 (hopefully this doesn't KILL loading time!)

After that I think I may be moving on to other non-Civ-4 projects!

I'm afraid that if I start the upgrade process for Warlords I'll find a whole new set of stuff I want to change/integrate and it will be another seven or eight months of madness! As any modder will tell you there is never an end to what you would like to do, but I have a whole plate of other projects I want to jump into here and I think it's time. So I'll continue to follow along and make fixes and whatnot, probably lurk among the forums, and I'll certainly be playing, but I won't be doing a Warlords compatible version of Sevomod myself.

On the plus side, there are a lot of people around here who are making add-ons to Sevomod already and may want to take up the banner and carry on in their own fashion, possibly making a Warlords compatible version.

Anyway, stay tuned for the Sevomod-3.1415926535 Final Release...I'll keep you guys posted but it shouldn't be long.

mrgenie, hi!

i understand, thank you for the reffernce.

in comparing to civ 3 - which has better ai ? how does war goes there? the ai does war in a more stronger way?

hmm, in civ3..well..i can remember one time when I played with the USA(on an earth map) and my RL friend played japan..we player multiplayer..and once i decided to invade germany in europe. I moved maybe around 20infanterie units, supported by 4carrier groups(I always build carrier groups like 10airplanes on 1 carrier, i edit this manually always, and alot of supporting ships, but i need the planes for air coverage) 30-40artillery, 20armor.and i thought to get 1 city..keep it defended..over time build up huge forces from overseas..i had alot of transports..but i was loosing from the chinese who was already in the russian part of europe..i tried to keep scandinavia very long...then my friend also came to support me, he send maybe 10units every turn..i did around 20-25every turn..but i was obviously loosing because the chinese..at some point he was attacking with 90units on stack!!! and he did this several turns...then we opened the map with an editor and saw the computer had another 5 stacks of this for several turns!!!! so we retreated :) I figured out i need at least 200units at once for succesfully invading europe..with civ4..the computer is not so smart to use massive forces..yes..stacking 90units is stupid..but if you attack with 90units at once with 10-15groups...that is an succesfull attack also in civ4!! but no computer is smart enough to do it..i personally still stack alot in civ4..sometimes groups of 20units..the computer in civ4 is too stupid to throw more then 2 artillery on the group to battle down my complete stack...so..generally...ai may be smarter in technique..but in using quantity as a military option..he lacks any sence..

basically..i can loose in civ4 because of development, technical research...but not by military tactics..in civ3 i could easily loose because the computer had this intelligence:"ih he has 20units, i must attack with 60"

yep. Sevo. I'll miss you!! *tears and desperate* sevomod is what kept me playing..now im happy keldath is enlarging the mod with his mods :) but..who'll develop sevo further? ohhh...it's a drama....can't we convince you to keep up your work??? :)

Awww...I was looking forward to your Warlord modding.

You deserve a break after all your great work on this mod. You've done a brilliant job single handedly (I know you used other mods/components, but still, many mods here have 'teams' and you've been able to do wonderfully on your own). Thank you for what you've done here. :king:

I, too, wish you luck on your future projects. Can I ask what they might be? Are you looking to mod other games?

nooo, we must find a way to bribe sevo to work with warlords, maybe if we give him ice cream, or or, pizza rolls?

I can tell you my story about civ4. following by my conclusion.
I payd 42euros when civ came into the stores.1month terrible crashes, nothing worked, they got their first update before christmas, didn't change much. still crashes. It took me more then 1,5month to find out that it were the ATI drivers which caused the crashes. I asked firaxes for support several times. but their answers were more like the answers of a 6y.o. instead of answers of trained and experienced programmers who know how to deal with technical problems. So i was left alone. in the forums i didn't find a solution. I did reroll every single ATI driver, from 5.11 to 5.10 to 5.9 down to 4.12..then I found out, no crashes anymore. so I posted it and many people thanked me for it. but, it should be the team of firaxis to find this solution! they should post it! they did wrote it in their webpage, 2months later! so their support is ****! the game itself had so few features worked out. the possibilities are tremendous(as we can see with sevomod) but firaxes themself did not make this a game to play for a year with the standard installation.at least for me it'll be boring with so few options. I got so frustrated by the game and most of all firaxes for their lame support. that i really threw away the disc, deinstalled the game, never to install again.

then a light began to shine, i read about the sevo mod. i looked at the modifications, and thought:"wow, this can be interesting, if i count all the options by sevo they are by far more then the whole team of firaxis made in all those years of preperation" so i installed the game again, then the mod, and played. a whole new world opened! the game now really got exciting.

I hope you understand this is my personal experience. Of course i can understand some people like civ4 also without the mod, but for me personally, it was the mod that made the game, not the game itself! So i paid 42euros to a company with no support, no help, stupid answers, bad testing, releasing a beta as a final( i think the 1.61 is a final release, the 2 release before were definatly a beta release) and i got a mod to the game, which offered alot more then the game itself, for free.. now i like the game.

though, it would be stupid to buy warlords because Sevo made the game worth playing! I won't buy warlords because my experience with the first(final, actually beta 1.00 release) if i buy warlords, firaxes has a profit of my enjoyment while playing sevo! instead of buying warlords, i rather prefer to pay sevo the 40euros for his work instead of firaxis!

for those who want to critisize this, I DO NOT state this as a fact, it's my personal opinion about the game! I accept people having fun with civ4 standard, please also accept my opinion that not the firaxis team, but sevo is the man who made this game interesting for me!

but If i could convince sevo, to keep on the modding and pay him for it. I am SOOO willing to do this!!! first time i got into contact with sevo, i asked him questions, suggestions, etc etc, I wonder why he never told me:"STFU" :) because i really asked him many silly things...but, he is so willing to help you solving problems, he is so nice, he does find solutions and patches everything. he is the true software developer:"not only develop and sell, but give pure support to people who enjoy his creations"
if someone deserves to earn money on this project(civ4) it is him and his fellow developers like keldath, GIR, those are the people making this game what it is!

Sevo, if money can convince you continuing this project, I hope other sevo mod players feel the same like I do, then please open a poll about it and how much people are willing to give you for your awesome mod, and see if the sum if enough to convince you continue your work with civ :)

of course, if it's a personal matter(wife complaining) i can understand money cannot solve such issues :) but, dear friend, mod developper, I am sure going to miss you here!

and no continuing sevomod? ha, I will not buy the warlords! what i saw in warlords, besides the scenarios, what did they add? vassal state yes(very interesting!!!), and some leaders..what do i get with sevo? modified screens, a hell of alot extra units, extra buildings, extra resources, extra civs, ...you name it, it's there..installing warlords and not able to use sevo anymore, means i loose 90% of all extras and get 5% back by warlords..am I going to do that? NO! the only thing that i personally like is this aspect of vassal state..but loosing all sevo extras for this???? NO NO NO! :)

Sevo, you're the man! I will miss you alot, and without you continuing the project..I hope maybe keldath will continue your project, because without sevo, this is the end of the continuous expanding of civ.at least for me.

Thanks for all the effort, Sevo; you'll leave some big shoes to fill once you move on. Civ 4 was good out of the box, but with Sevomod added in, you've undoubtedly given me the happiest strategy gaming hours of my life! I feel slightly unfaithful to Masters of Orion 2 saying that... but that's mainly nostalgia talking! :p

Great mod Sevo - thanks for all your efforts and let's hope someone picks up the banner to continue development in the same character.
All the best!

Noo I nip away to play Titan Quest for a few weeks come back and find Sevo is not going to mod Warlords it's a very sad day.I was already concerned about playing vanilla Warlords untill Sevo modded it.All I can say is thanks for the many hours of fun your mod has given me.

My fave part of the Sevomod gotta be resources linked to techs really enjoyed this anyone else care to pay homage to their own fave bits?

Btw what are these new and exciting projects Sevo? [sorry I am really nosey]

Sevo, you've done some great work for this community and we all appreciate it. Your mod inspired me to start my own.
It's a shame you won't be able to continue working on it, but I hope your other projects are as fun and as satisfying, unless of course this one was a torture :D

Hats off to you sir :hatsoff:

Hmm, you know, this whole discussion about warlords compatibility and so on brings up an interesting point...

Would we be able to play Warlords and vanilla w/o reinstalling them or having two copies of the game? I mean, I would've said that Warlords should be like a big mod, problem is it itself has mods (the scenarios) so that's out of the question.

I guess having two copies of the game is not a big deal as gigabytes are cheap, problem is, it might get confused if it uses the same registry entries and could become a real hastle - I mean if the two versions share the same "my docs" folders then would the game be weirding out because the same folder contains both mods for vanilla and for warlords.

IDK, maybe I'm just being paranoid but stranger things have happened...

simple solution, use 2 different logon accounts in either win2000 or winXP :)
