SG Lurkers, ready?

hmm I've been goofing with
balanced
small
4 enemy civs
no time/space victory
Always war
flaming barbs

not sure WTH is going on but just rapid firing turns to see how bad it is and yet to see a freaking barb even to 2500 BC...

might be that I'm not feeling well (the CIV population is one of the few that enjoy being unwell as it just means more quality time with the civ :crazyeye:) and my thinking is not up to par but is it that always war screws with barbs or maybe the small land mass?

not sure to be honest, gotta gank it around some to find out what makes it tick.

for now thinking.
limit on 3 cities (to allow cultural if it comes to that and make us think hard where to place cities in terms of resources.)
Raze only (no cheating getting more towns)
flaming barbs <-- non negotiable
aggressive civs
balanced standard map
no space time wins
monarch level
epic speed.

gotta test a few of those games out to see if it's resonably silly enough or it needs a bit more spice. maybe no leaders with aggressive?

any suggestions welcome

but anyway back with THIS sg lol

Percinho is up next I believe. hard to keep track honestly with all these SG's lol

the other games half the people drop out and they didn;t have to deal with a quarter of the antics we did..

kudos to the crew!!

Cheers!

[1] - Change Timbuktoo to worker. Will build another one when Djenne finishes horse archer. Have deciede that consolidation and working will be the theme of my turn. Switch Gao to lighthouse, as seems to have been the consensus.

[2] – [3] Nowt Much. Angle expands, and Djenne has finished its horse archer. Switch to Worker.

[4] – [6] Skirmisher finished in Angle, have gone for a worker and will chop to get it.Iron is linked up.

[7] – Kumbli finishes a Horse Archer. Will build more from here as it’s closest to the barb cities. This gives the option to head for one sooner rather than later.

[8] – Djenne has chopped a worker, so I set it to skirmisher. Build up the military as it’s a border city with The Short French One. Timbuk meanwhile has finished a worker so I have set it to a library. I’m concerned that we don’t let science suffer too much during the worker/military phase.

[9] – after reviewing our relations towards all other civs, I have set us to no state religion. Everyone was either cautious or annoyed and everyone gave us -3 for religion. It had started to make me a little nervous. Set workers to go about working. Each city is now being developed.

[10] – [11] Quiet ones. Apart from a barbarian archer approaching our worker/skirmisher combo on the western frontier. We should have enough to beat them, but as the worker is ready for fresh orders, I move him. We really do not want to lose a worker right now!

[12] Our skirmisher is safe and sound; the archer vanquished. Finish alphabet and decide to go for literature. This gives us the chance to work on the epics, which can build up the military city that has been suggested earlier. The number of turns that the sciences would cost has alerted me to the fact that we’re in need of some serious science production. Hopefully our workers will start to redress this balance, but we can’t lose sight of it amongst our military building.

[13] – Farm finished at Gao, expansion now in 12 turns; will go farming for more food. Lighthouse due soon.

[14] – Have traded for maths with Cyrus. He offered that plus 300 for alphabet, and with the perilous state of our finances I really think we couldn’t refuse. I was slightly concerned with the reaction Nappy might have, but he seems nonplussed about it all.

[15] – Not much. A couple of workers finished what they were doing, so I thought this would be a good time to stop. Not sure how many turns we’re doing at this point either.

I’m slightly concerned about finances and science at this point. I worry that if we do pick up the barb cities then we’re opening our self up to economic peril. We’re losing money and at only 70% science, so a couple more cites, in less than ideal locations, will just be a drain for a while. We’re pretty much carrying Gao as it is at the minute. Just my tuppence worth.

Cheers all.

Oh, sorry for the short and dirty reply, but I'm being hassled by my Real Life! It's been eating into my quality civiv time! :hammer:

And Liq, this idiot is definitely interested in the raging barbs game. I think a map that'll leave lots of dark areas would be ideal to provoke an onslaught. :ar15:

Change Timbuktoo to worker.

man Liq is so goofed up on cough syrup today (I mean it's after 9 am the sun is up WTH is liq doing awake????????????) I was thinking omg WTH why another worker there's like 10 cooling their heels in berlin.....

then realized that was a timbuktu in another SG........

oh man Liq pleads sickness in body and spirit today!!!!

as for the raging barbies seems tons of interest... that really confuses me. guess we are all a pack of gulttons too tired to google-spell masochists... hmm that may actually be how to spell that word.......

ok must read your turnset per..

and ya real life's gotta get a clue and understand it's not just civ4, its civ4 SG's we got going on here. sheesh the nerve.:D

Cheers!

Nice turn, Percinho. :goodjob:
That math is going to be our fix'er-upper. Currency is just around the corner, and that +forges should help keep our bookeepers happy. Glad we are getting some workers too.

I do think that taking those two barb cites is worthwhile though.
From a strategic view, certainly, and I think the added expense will be managable.
When I was sacking Angle, I got some coin from the city. Taking two cities will raise our overhead, but add that dividend (from the looting of two cities) to the sum you got for alphabet, and we may be able to keep the repoman away until we build some markets. Was hoping we got math soon, very slick trade, imo.

Whose up next, Sir T?
Do your thing Toma. You have a hate/hate relationship with barbarians anyway. :cooool:

**************************************
Liq: your SG sounds masochistic. Count me in!
:spank: :whipped:

yeah for maximized fun, I say we all take 10 turns until the first barb shows up then sit toma plays 70 turns...

er?

oh yeah taking the other barb citys is good and court houses help the over time cost.

Cheers!

Great idea and i'd love to give it a go but there's only ine little problem. If you decide on this not only will i go insane and probably destroy everything on the entire map with a small troop of praetorians (like i did to an unlucky mao and toguwaga) but i will also come to your house in the middle of the night and stab you through the chest with an ice-cream scoop.
:joke: (about the chest stabbing)

Now that the formalities are over. I'll play tommorow morning, afternoon or whenever i wake up. It's 11:00 at night in Geelong at the moment. Any idea's for what to do next would be helpful. I'm thinking of researching music after literature (if we can) for the free great artist. Just an idea.

Sir Toma

p.s @Liq
I was thinking of starting a series of SG's all with raging barbs as well as other whacky variants but i've been a bit put off after noticing how easily you come up with wacky ideas so maybe you should create a series? I'd happily dispose of any left over barbarians.:D Once again just an idea

Here is my turn
[1] 620AD: Barb archer moves closer to our worker/skirmisher combo. Relised that Kumbli is unhappy. Have to do something about that.

Between turns: Barb archer attacks our skirmisher. VICTORY!

[2] 630AD: Alphabet research finishes. Begin on monarchy for hereditarty rule as we are lacking in hapiness. The Partheon has been built in a far away land.

[3] 640AD: Skirmisher finishes in Djenne, pormote him to city garrison I, send the horse archer there to the barb cities in the west. Start Djenne on a Hindu missionary. I'm going to convert Napoleon.

[4] 650AD: Yawn

[5] 660AD: Trade Cyrus Alphabet for Mathematics and 300Gold. Cyrus is the tech leader by a mile with Monarchy, Literature and something else.

[6] 670AD: Hatsphestut comes begging for Horseback riding, i refuse because as soon as we convert to hinduism she'll be pissed at us anyway. Worker done in Angle, start on a hindu missionary, horse archer done in Kumbli, start a swordsman.

[7] 680AD: Lighthouse is completed in Gao. It automatically goes onto a barracks. I let it, there's not much else that would benifit it.

[8] 690AD: Kumbli finishes a swordsman, i start it on a hindu temple for happiness. Huanya Capac asks for Horseback riding and 300G for calendar, i refuse because if i accepted we would have had no gold left.

[9] 700AD: Angle completes its hindu missionary, starts on a Granary. Trade Napoleon Alphabet and Monotheism for Calendar. Huanya Capac founde Christanity. Lauch an attack on Phygrian, we kill one archer but a horse archer dies leaving 1 archer left in the city on 0.4healt!!!

[10] 710AD: We rank 4th in Herdotus' something. I forgot to look at it closely. We have captured Phygrian!!! Yay!

[11] 720AD: Monte comes asking for open boarders, i agree. Djenne finishes its hindu missionary, i start it on a hindu temple as it is at its happiness limit.

[12] 730AD: Yawn

[13] 740AD: Timbuktu finishes its Horse Archer, i start it on a forge as i like the look of the colossus. Phygrian starts to build a skirmisher. I convert to Hinduism. Change Gao to a workboat as its boarders have expanded.

[14] 750AD: convert Rheims to Hinduism.

[15] 760AD: Convert Paris to Hinduism. Toguwaga converts to Hinduism. It seems that we are the Hindu block.

I didn't know how many turns we were playing so i stopped here.

At the moment we don't have a worker produced for Phygrian and i'm using Kumbli's worker to connect it to our trade network. Napoleon should convert to Hinduism next turn and Toguwaga already has so it seems those 2 are goind to be our allies.
I am researching Monarchy for the extra happiness although code of laws was tempting. Feel free to veto any of my descisions. Hope i haven't screwed up too bad.
God this turn was boring compared to the good old days of 25 barb axmen coming at your heroic archer trapped inside Athens and a worker trying to work while being constantly attacked by warriors. This turn was relatively peaceful.

I also have some screenies that i will upload later but i have to clean my pool at the moment.

p.s how do you use auto-log?

Yay! We got one of those barbarian cities? Sweet.
Can we still grab the second?
I want to see some screenies!

Smooth move, converting Nappy, and Toku on his own, over to our religion.
Now if we switch to Hinduism, they should be happy(er) with us.

A nice, balanced turn. If we are falling behind on research, would literature or an increase in cash work better for us? (Lit vs. Currency).
I'd usually go for lit, but we need cash too. That ones a head scratcher.

good luck with toku.. that fool hates the player civ always. hindu in france tho is the WIN! :goodjob:

Imo continue to work france into hindu then pick the next person to be our friend...

Cheers!

Got it. I've got an exam tmro morning, I can play in the afternoon tomorrow, but if you wanna grab it and go liq I don't mind switching.

--Greggo

Liq left me out of the turn order, I'm after you Greggo.
I can't take a turn tonight, either.

We're now at 10 turns each, but feel free to take more/less if it makes sense (even out turns, finish a project, etc.)

hmm yeah sorry black, the old cut and paste cut a little too deep there.

let me get some sleep, seeing as it's 1pm and well I haven;t gone to sleep yet.

I'll get to the save tonight after raids.

Cheers!
