SG Lurkers, ready?

Why doesn't anyone answer my questions!!!

Sir T is so funny sometimes.
**************************
PS:
I too have lost track of who's going next.
Is it Liq, taking Greggo's turn, then will Greggo take his turn, or will he wait for Blackluck? (whom we apparantly did not mutiny against, as I assumed from Liq's earlier turn order post).

BTW, when, I mean if... I mean "Hypothetically" :groucho: when a mutiny takes place, send me the MEMO!

If Blackluck goes, then it is definately Greggo, unless it's me, unless I pass it along to... ack!
I'm just gonna take my turn when told to. ;)
******************************************
Could this be... yes it is! 100 posts baby!
That must be a new record or something. Woot!
I rule all. Bow to me, I am the thread overlord now! Mwa ha ha

Haha, sorry for the confusion - my test is over, and i'm playing now.

Who's excited!!

As Sir Toma said - quite boring without raging barbs. I did manage to make a couple boneheaded moves anyway tho

To start with, I got Gao working on the newly pasturized sheep, going from 27turns to grow and 13 to produce to 9 and 10 respectively.

As predicted, Napolean converts to Hinduism. I start work in Kumbi on a horse archer to help taking the barbarian city nearby. Somewhere around here, Alex declared war on Hatty.

In 780AD, Monarch is discovered, and we implement hereditary rule. Currency comes next. Djenne completes it's temple and begins work on a forge (to help create our massive armies :hammer:) The next turn, Djenne grows to size 6.

Cyrus comes to us with open borders and we accept. Alex asks us to declare war on Hatty - I debate, but decide to refuse (She's 1st place in points, and he's last). Also, Taoism gets founded.

In the year 810, Angle finishes it's granary and begins on a.... FORGE :hammer: Also, I notice a couple of Monty's units heading towards our barbarian neighbor, and I send a horse archer out to investigate. The city has 3 archers in it, and Monty has one archer and a horse archer. I don't think he'll get anywhere but leave our horse where it is to keep an eye on things.

Here, unfortunately, is where I did something rather dumb. I was checking around for tech trades. We have metal casting, which most other civs don't. I alt tabbed in the middle of a trade, and when I came back all the buttons were blank. In short, I traded MC for currency+200gold. This wouldn't have been too bad, except we were already half-way thru currency :(. er..ah..whoops!
Start researching code of laws next.

In happier news, the Great Hindu Prophet, Moses, is born in Timbuktu (cause we all know that's where moses came from.) He constructs the Kashi Vashi Vasilith, which allows us to go up to 80% science with a managable loss.
In 840 Ad, Phryg grows and, finally, in 850 AD the new horse archer is finished, and Kumbi starts work on a ___ (hint: it begins with an F, and ends in orge)

Gao finishes it's work boat, and goes to complete a barracks it had started on earlier.

Our next target:

And here's the save: Good luck whoever it is. (Black? or liq? or L_M? :crazyeye: )

Nice turn! Lots of forges, glad somebody did it. :)

Okay, so Sangian is on the coast I see. Good for us, if we can snag it.
I wonder what resources are near it?
Two archers (ppft, our horsemen should smoke em), and three workers?
If for no other reason, I'd want to take those workers! We can always use more labor.

Hatty and Alex not playing nice? Too bad for them, good for us though.
Ha ha ha @ your tech trade. It happens, no worries.
Markets will be nice.

I was thinking of starting a series of SG's all with raging barbs as well as other whacky variants but i've been a bit put off after noticing how easily you come up with wacky ideas so maybe you should create a series? I'd happily dispose of any left over barbarians.:D Once again just an idea
Percinho said:
And Liq, this idiot is definitely interested in the raging barbs game. I think a map that'll leave lots of dark areas would be ideal to provoke an onslaught. :ar15:
An SG of idiots? Well then I'm so in. I need to tell Admiral Kutzov that CFC is spawning us idiots now.
Sir Toma said:
p.s how do you use auto-log?
Sir T.--I'm such an idiot Tubby Rower had to explain it to me on IM to figure it out. I'd suggest posting in the thread because it truly is a great time saver.

Keep rolling crew!

That's a good idea, Sir T. Would be good if the barbs also get to build up some decent cities for us to vanquish.

So come on, Liq: get out of bed and create a dedicated "SG Idiots" thread so we can discuss some variants :hammer:

I should be able to play tonight. Winter's been taking its toll on my health.

I'm going to try to take that barb town and take the financial hit; hopefully that'll seal our borders for the few remaining open city sites. This will likely piss off Monty, but if we can withstand his early rushes we should remain in good shape (assuming early wars don't end up dragging us down with him.)

Note: If anyone wants to bail on this SG due to lack of interest or drama, please feel free to do so :D

You can count me in for the duration. It's still early doors and there's much civ yet to be played. Once we have the barbs sorted I think we can concentrate on building ourselves up a bit, and see where we head from there.

We are still experiencing the calm before the storm.
Once one of our neighbors trys to go for a grab, they will come with numbers, and our other friends may just decide to go for our throats too.
The whole "kick a man while he's down" thing.

They are already scrapping amongst themselves. How long before their greedy little eyes turn on the south central Lurker empire? There may not be much drama now Blackluck, in the same way that there is no drama in a horror movie when some pretty girl decides to go for a walk in a cemetary for no particular reason. Or when somebody decides to go for a swim in a Jaws movie.

It'll come, and when it does, I hope it's Sir Toma who has to beat them off with a stick again. He seems to like that.
It is also a good thing that other playes in the SG are building city improvements, because due to my paranoid nature, I want to build our army to be big, beefy and ready to roll.

Ideas I'm toying with:
* Build a galley in Timbuktu. (Explore, or intercept a civ from dropping units off near our copper). May be used for counterattack, transport, if we are at war with a coastal neighbor.
* Get construction (if we already have Lit), and build a handful of catapults for counterattack. They will come, if they start it, I say we end it.
* Mass troops on our eastern borders. Toku has to grow somewhere, if he has no islands, odds are he will try to punch his way through us. Should be able to swing north to protect that flank too, if roads are built. Our Iron must be protected, at all costs.
* Build strong garrisons at Djenne and Kumbi. New barb cities are expendable, but not these two.
* If galley is built, might try to plant a new city on the last beaver to our SE, on Toku's side, for the added resource and coin we'll get from the coast. (maybe, money issues...)
* Plant a city north of Kumbi. mainly to prevent another civ from building a civ there and us losing our stone due to border movement with culture. (Lousy way to lose that important resource) Would act as a buffer too, I'd rather lose a small town than one of our bigger cities if an attack comes from the north.
* Drop a missionary at every capital we have open borders with.
* Build markets, and solve all our money problems.

No way I can do this all in 10 turns, but just things I'm thinking of moving us towards, depending on what the game throws at us in the meantime.

My opinion is non-binding, likely to change, and non-binding on any other player (myself included).

I'm hoping I didn't offend anyone, I just wanted to make sure no one feels 'pressured' if they didn't want to continue...

Thanks Percinho and L_M for the feedback!

I was thinking of a galley, too (from Gao, though). I know Toku uses them a lot to get behind your lines (he can be a pita with his pillaging.) I'd like to get a buffer city north as well. However, I would hate to see Monty get that barb town. Decisions, decisions. I'm thinking Monty will declare on us before Toku. But, it's nearly a guarantee Toku will attack us. It's just a matter of when. Lots of tasty choices to make in the upcoming turns. With our volatile neighbors we might end up without any allies. Time will tell.

I should have my turn up and posted in a few hours.

Forums were down for me quite a while.
I may have pulled some bonehead moves here, but I proffer (a seemingly daily now) sinus headache as excuse!

To the turn log:

Pre turn.
Lots of forges ordered up, but they are going to take a long time to complete.

Switch Saleh from forge (16 turns) to walls (four turns). Monty has founded a town just to the north of us:

north.jpg

Swich Angle from forge (16 turns) to Temple, for culture. 16 turns at this point just seems too long a build time to me, and the town is too small right now to take advantage of a forge.

The northern area has been settled by Monty and Napolean:
(lost screen shot; the river delta between Salah and Djenne)
I think we can still fit a city there.

We have only 6 cities; we can squeeze another one in on the coast. We might can get one in the river basin east of Gao. I don't know if we have time right now to build a settler given our needs (which is everything at the moment.)

The archers in the barb town are garrison promoted. We have 2 horse archers and a sword at our disposal. I don't think that will be enough to take it. Monty has two troops near it right now but I doubt that will stay that way for long. The danger here is if I attack the town but only weaken it Monty will scoop it up. I'll start marshelling what forces I can and head that way.
(lost screenshot)

Hit enter.

Turn 1) 860 a.d.
Barracks complete in Gao. Everything takes forever to build here. It's only size three. A galley takes 16 turns. Gah. It only has one skirmisher for a defender. I order an Axeman (still due in 11 turns.) Worker chops woods along river bank. I hate using a chop for a military unit; I'd prefer a granary here or even a temple, but we really needs some more troops. The workboat harvests fishes. Gao is now growing at a good clip and should soon be a very good town.

The barb town now has Saladin as a player. I promote the sword to city raider I but the odds still suck (less than even.) There are also three barb defenders in it. I don't think we can take this town without a better force.
I bide my time.

Worker 1 in Angle is building a cottage.
Worker 2 roads the beavers.

Turn 2:
The Hanging Gardens are build in a faraway land.

Saladin attacks, succeeds in promoting the barb archer.
Monty has retreated. We are now the only force there.

Attack now while the barb is healing? Reinforcements, in the form of one horse archer is a turn away.

I just don't think we can take it yet.

Turn 3:
Forge done in Timbuktu.
I decide to go for Colossus. 15 turns. There are more things we need, but well, we only have one Wonder. I'm having Wonder withdrawal
(I just played a private game as Ghandi ... what a powerhouse. I digress.)

Archer moves out of the barb town.
Okay, need to ponder.

All three of our erstwhile raiders need one point for a promotion.
The odds still are not good to take the city.
I decide to attack the sorte archer with the swordman to get a promotion and city raider II.
He wins!
Barely. Red lines.
Will he be attacked next turn??

Turn 4:
Salah completes walls. Grows in one turn.
Forge still takes too long I think, so I order an axeman.

Worker in Phyrgian roads towards the barb town.
I want to save the chop for a temple after the Skirm is completed.

Sword is not attacked; I promote to City Raider II, move one tile back and heal. Horse archer moves north to scout; safe so far.

Gao -- chop complete, we have an Axeman.
All buildings still take too long to complete. It's Jewish, not Hindu.
Galley takes 16 turns. It's producing no culture.
I decide to make a temple with the aid of a chop.

Worker in Angle begins a road towards Timbuktu.
Toku has a archer/settler pair north of us (lost the screen; in fact, for some reason I lost most of my screen shots.)

Turn 5: 900 A.D.
Djenne completes forge. Tempted to make a settler but we don't have enough military to protect new city.
Another axeman is ordered. I'm spooked now by Monty and Toku.

Turn 6: 920
Hatty asks us to declare war on Alex. Sorry Hatty, no can do.
Angle completes temple. Still only size four, begin walls.

Turn 7:930 a.d.
Horse archer attacked, survives. Promote to flanking II (immune to first strike). Nearly heals him but yoiks stupid promotion.:smoke:
Sorry guys I suck at choosing promotions. Sword is nearly healed. Almost ready to take barb town.

Turn 8-9: 940 (As is my wont, I lose track of turns. Blame the sinus headache! That's the ticket)

Monty cancels open borders:
monty.jpg

Gao - starts on a gally
Saleh -- starts a spear. I fear a Monty invasion really soon.
Djenne -- Settler. I think we can get the floodplains between Djenne and Salah. This can be vetoed for any number of improvements. We have NO, nada, zero libraries, for instance.

(Hinduism spreads to various cities (sorry I don't have better screens docs, but a) I lost most of those screens and b) my head is killing me)

Sword heals.

Code of Laws comes in. No one will trade us anything except Meditation.
We have some nice expensive techs, but I'm loathe to trade them for cash. Might have too .... for a financial Civ we're not making much cash :cringe:

Next turn, we assault Shagian

Turn 10/11: 960
Oh boy ... trade network has loosened up.
More in a bit.

The assault on Shagian:
Sword defeats archer! (Barely!)
Flanking II horse archer attacks and retreats! But he redlines barb archer!
Combat II horse archer defeats remaining, wounded defending archer!

nt.jpg

We now have three! count'em three workers.
They all built a road towards Phyrgian.

The trading front:
Furs to Napolean for 2 gpt. Not the best deal, but maybe we can enlist his aid when Monty attacks. Can't do a trade with Toku for resources

I don't hit enter; maybe L_M can do some tech trading as I'm too tired now to ponder those.

Toku is being a butthead:
butthead.jpg

Summary:
Built up military and defenses. Build some cultural improvements.
We need infrastructure. Badly. Libraries, marketplaces. And culture.
Temples. Shagian needs culture ASAP. And walls, too. Monty is RIGHT there.
We need to build up our military road net too.

Per L_M, construction is due in six. After that, my choice would be .. music if possible. Doubtful, and the Incas and Cyrus are well ahead of us. I would probably prioritize libraries and temples. Our military was quite thin, so I spent most of my time working on that.

oh yeah, the save:View attachment 107609

All the pressure is now on Liq. :)

Don't go annoying anyone before I start my turn! :mischief:
I'd like a nice peaceful turn, where me and our people can sniff the roses and bask in our own self importance.
None of this rampaging aztec's and japanese hammering at the city gates please. :cooool:
I suppose allowing our people to get library cards might be a good idea.

Just kidding. Good turn Blackluck, hope you feel better soon.
Good luck to you, liq'ster. Take us to the promised land!
(I expect us to be in first place when I start my turn)
