- Micromanage PigPen to give us some more commerce
- Ack! Kumbi is on “avoid growth” for no good reason!!! The city governor kindly donates certain body parts for medical research.
(1) 1085AD
- Alex offers us Gold in exchange for Corn (Alex loves us really) – how could I refuse?
- Our Hindu monastery is ready at Timbuktu. I order up a longbow (we need more military and it passes the time until harbors are available).
- Hinduism spreads to Nagoya:

A Malinese revolt has taken place in Nagasaki:
Not much else to report. A worker builds a mine south of Gao, and some others build a road to Djenne.
(3) 1095AD
- Library ready at Angle. Now that Nagasaki is revolting we need to keep up cultural pressure and make it ours – a theatre is in order, I think.
- Forest cleared at Shaggy, meaning that the theatre there will be ready next turn.
- Hinduism spreads all the way up to Huamanga:
(4) 1100AD
- Hatty adopts Serfdom and Vassalage
- Our diligent scientists have researched Compass. There are several directions we could go next, but I plump for Civil Service. I think we need to bolster our military (macemen) and Bureaucracy will be a bonus. I’m hoping we will be able to pick up Machinery from someone and gain a fast track to Guilds and then Gunpowder.
- Theatre at Shaggy. Now that Compass is finished we can start on a Harbor and pick up the trade bonus to help pacify our frantic accountants.
- And the big news this century? We now have control of Nagasaki – ta da!:
We even get a free longbow with our city! Curiously, even though you might expect Toku to be somewhat ticked off with us for subsuming his city, our relations have actually gone up to +5 (pleased) now that our borders are now longer sparking. On the downside (why is there always a downside?), the maintenance costs have sent our budget into freefall: -20gpt!!!
In the meantime, the sooner we get Nagasaki producing culture the better, so the first build has to be a theatre.
(5) 1105AD
- Livy gives us a smelly review, but what does he know?
- Monty adopts Hereditary Rule. Oh joy.
- PigPen builds a theatre and starts a longbow.
- The financial plunge is now freaking me out, so I turn the science down to 70%. This of course loses us 2 turns on Civil Service, but slows things to a (slightly) less dive-tastic -4gpt.
(6) 1110AD
- Timbo finishes its longbow, so now I begin the planned Harbor. (The longbow is sent up to Walata, which is relatively undefended at the moment.)
- Djenne’s market is now open for business. Let’s be daring and try for the Chicken Itches. If we succeed we’ll gain +25% defence on all cities, which will be useful when things go south (and let’s face it, they will sooner or later…

; if not, our purse will be a little bit fatter for a while. All we need is some luck, some mines, and a few trees to chop.
- In other news, Toku has Machinery but isn’t ready to trade yet. Ditto H-C. Bummer.
(7) 1115AD
- Hatty starts her Golden Age (Luv_Muffin can wave good-bye to his 3rd place)
- Gao… um… forges a forge, and harbors desires for a harbor.
- Angle’s theatre is ready. Now that the culture here is less critical, attention needs to shift to the military: you can bet that Toku won’t stay all sweetness and light forever. So: Longbow ready in 7. (The other main option is probably a market, but this would have negligible effect at the moment).
(8) 1120AD
- Toku decides to close borders on us:
Our borders are once again clashing and so he’s gone down to +4 (cautious).
- If that wasn’t enough, Cyrus wants us to stop trading with Alex. Since Cyrus is currently at the top of the pile and Alex is at the bottom, guess whose side I’m going to take? Alex gives us the silent treatment – he doesn’t love us anymore
- Hindu monastery at Kumbi completed; horse archer started in anticipation of that special day when our Greek ex decides to start throwing plates at us.
(9) 1125AD
- H-C makes a pitiful demand for Meditation. I haven’t the heart to laugh at him. Vicky has the right idea: we must give aid and comfort to our inferiors. If H-C had a tail, it would be wagging furiously now; since he doesn’t we have to do with a simple +5 in relations.
- Saladin adopts Theocracy; Cyrus adopts Hereditary Rule.
(10) 1130AD
- PigPen builds a longbow and starts a courthouse (a worker is currently busy chopping).
- I cancel that annoying tribute to Monty
- Our missionary is currently north of Baghdad: I’ve been using him to scout around Sally’s territory. Unfortunately, all the cities already have either Buddhism or Taoism already. The next player can decide whether it is worth trying his luck on one of these.
- We badly need a garrison at Nagasaki. There is a longbow there at the moment, but I don’t trust Toku, and this city will be on the front line of any assault. In the meantime, the theatre will be ready next turn, allowing the borders to expand in 5.
- Build more units! We can afford a larger army. No, actually we
can’t afford a larger army, but we need one. We are still 8th in military and when the war comes we don’t want to be caught with our pants down. Monty hates us, and Alex is still nursing a broken heart and a grudge. Only Nappy and H-C are pleased with us, and I don’t know how much help they would be in a fight.
- Finances: I’ve got us back to -3gpt (at the expense of our science) but we need to do better. Harbors will help, as will courthouses: try to juggle these with military units. Also look for opportunities to build cottages or micro-manage cities to maximise commerce.

We are in second place now folks. I expect to see us in first place soon and keep it. (No pressure, but I will judge your moral character if our rank dips below #3) Heh Heh
