War!!! What is it good for?
I start the game with Liq's alarm bells still ringing in my ear about
a possible war.
Could it be that Toku would attack us? Really?
What about Nappy over there, he's looking pretty smug.
Why wouldn't Toku attack him?
Is just because our military is 8th place, and we have the 2nd largest
Empire?
I will listen to Liq, and prepare myself for the invasion.
First thing I check is... where do I attack?
(So what if we can't declare war, if we are going to have one I want to
win it)
Answer - Osaka. We take his horses, and should be free of any kind of
cavalry counterattack (Elephants are not in our league anymore).
How we do this depends on what cards we are dealt with, but I'm toying
with an idea of a naval invasion on his east coast (his rear) as his main
army will be at our front (his west). This all depends on too many variables,
So I keep it as an idea to work on for the moment.
My number one job is to smash any invasion immediately after
it enters our territory. More likely is that he attacks, and gets pushed back.
We would want to avoid a costly war of attrition, so the east coast surprise
attack may be our solution.
*Lumbermills, yes! Spamerama with the lumbermills. I've been looking forward
to this worker improvement. So have many of our cities. Now watch us boom
our production! Toku may have woke the sleeping tiger! (or whatever).
Toku has Vassalage and Theocracy.
I will try to remember to adopt this civic for ourselves as soon as our
first military units is nearly finished being built.
This should be fun.
************************
1. 1570 AD
Kumbi builds Granery, starts on Catapult.
Workers building lumbermills all over.
I notice our Caravel has been given a multi-move order to protect
our newest Whales. I agree with the order, Protect our eastern waters!
Before our Military units start being produced next turn,
I swap our
civic over to Theocracy & Vassalage.
2. 1575 AD
Grenadier built in Djenne, start on another one.
My Little Pony gets an upgrade to Grenadier in Angle.
*It is one of our oldest serving units, want to give him a chance to
survive.
Iron Brigade gets an upgrade to Grenadier as well.
Marooned has grown to size 2, keep it maxing food. Growth to 3 in 9 turns.
We are now 5th place in Military size? Something has happened...
Diplomatically, I am more afraid of Monty attacking us than Toku.
But if Liq said...
3. 1580 AD
Timbuktu builds Grenadier, starts on Jewish Missionary.
Walata builds Jewish Missionary, starts on a Grenadier.
I turn research down to 80%. We still get Military Tradition next turn.
I notice some of Toku's troops moving to the eastern front.
Don't you do it, Toku! Turn around, and walk away...
IBT: Toku Declares War on the Lurker Empire!!!
4. 1585 AD
Military Tradition is done just in the nick of time!
(The Lurker who chose this was a genious)
Might as well finish
work on Constitution, done in three.
Kumbi builds Catapult, starts work on Cavalry!
Angle completes Grenadier, starts work on another Grenadier.
Shaggy completes Grenadier, starts on Hindu Monestary.
Also
promote Horse Archer to Cavalry in Shaggy, will send him east.
Barracks built in Naggy, begin work on walls.
Borders of Walata have expanded.
Upgraded a horse archer and chariot in Angle to Cavalry.
"My little pony" Grenadier fortifies a forest tile east of Angle,
worker begins to build Lumbermill under the greedy eyes of Toku.
I ask Nappy to convert to Hinduism, and he agrees! Woot!
*Nappy converts to Hinduism* (Free of charge too, I might add)
Toku has a Grenadier and Knight outside our walls (if we had any) at naggy.
He has more reinforcements on the way, with a catapult.
Another larger stack of Toku's troops is heading towards Angle, bringing
catapults and elephants.
Judiasm spreads to PigPen.
We are now the #3 ranked military in the world, and growing!
Alexander refuses to talk to us. I wanted to cut off Toku's supply of ivory
IBT: HC asks us to give him Military Tradition.
No way! He won't even talk to us about ending his trade agreements with
Toku, so I send HC packing.
*Denied*
5. 1590 AD
Timbuktu finishes building Jewish Missionary, starts on Grenadier.
Grocer built in PigPen, start work on Grenadier.
Toku seems to be shifting his entire invasion force towards Naggy!
Pillaging around naggy! This war crime shall be avenged!
My response towards this dastardly deed is to destroy the offender.
Cavalry promotes to combat I, attacks Toku's Knight.
(I forget exactly what he pillaged, but his sentence is death anyway)
Cavalry down to 5.4/15 but Toku's Knight is destroyed, withdrawing to Naggy.
Promotion due next turn for our cavalry, heal in four
Judaism spread to Angle.
Toku's army: (surrounding Naggy)
4 -- Grenadiers
4 -- Knights
2 -- Catapults
2 -- Musketman
2 -- War Elephants
* I respond by sliding The Iron Brigade North to reinforce Naggy.
withdraw My little Pony from Worker duty, send him back to Angle.
I cover our worker making a lumbermill with a longbow instead.
I also move whatever spare forces I see in our western front towards
the east. Catapults are all on the move, as are horse archers etc...
Our second Cavalry unit that I just moved into Naggy will attack
a stack of Toku's units in the open. Odds in our favor 18 vs. 13.2
Our brave cavalry unit has lost his life defending Naggy!
Now I'm really getting angry! Toku's grenadier down to 3.7/12 though
IBT: Toku attacks Naggy!
Grenadier defeats Toku's knight
Grenadier defeats Toku's Grenadier
