Scowler, you're screenshots are pretty. Are you using the Blue Marble mod?

And does anyone know if that mod to copy the game log to notepad works with the new patch? (So I can keep track of who lives and dies etc...)?

Just had an idea, maybe Hank "the hero" can be moved to one of our new cities. He has city defense III now, and is deadly. I think Walata is more secure now, so we can leave it protected by one less city defense III rifleman, and replace it with a brand new one if our veteran is on our front lines.

*Next tech to research? Assembly line? When will we get Marines (MG killers)?
 
Great turn Scowler! Good choice to take it stright to Nappy.

I'm not going to be able to play tonight, and it's only a possible for tomorrow. On that basis, and the fact that Sir_T is up next and must be itchingto get back into thea ction, I'll quite happily skip to allow things to keep going. This game is really moving at the moment, and I'd hate to stall it for all.

After looking at where we are, here's some ideas for the SG to consider.

* switching civics:
- increase research (from 12 to under 10 for physics with just about any change)
- better relations with almost all civs
- more money, more culture, solves our unhappiness problems.
I tried so many variations. Can somebody with more knowledge take a look and find a combination that works best for us considering our lagging research, money woes and need for culture?
- loss of extra promotions can be earned back by counterattack their wounded units, and long term we'll get infantry soon (industrialism) or even trade for railroads with someone (machinegunners).
- even if our losses go up a bit, we rule in production.

* Gao is due to build a great artist very soon (69% chance). I think we should send him to Tokyo, fast! Tokyo is in trouble of getting flipped if we can't get it pushing back borders soon. Also, buy that library when we can afford it.

* we have a rifleman/pikeman duo gaurding the stone resource near Kumbi still. We can move at least one of these units to where they are needed.

* get our engineer at Walata into the fields. City will grow next turn, and that extra pop can then be an engineer if it makes a difference. Otherwise, keep that city growing. Same with Timbuktu. Djenne should be growing, once Nappy attacks and dies assaulting Walata or Djenne.

Monty has a wounded cav outside walata. Kill it, and heal in walata again.

Nappy's cities:
Paris. Riflemen and Machinegunners. We can't steal it anymore, put on list of things to do later on.
Marseilles & Orleans (especially Orleans) can be taken.
Marseilles - 3 riflemen, Orleans - 3 riflemen and a great prophet.
Chartres - 3 riflemen

Nappy has one cavalry heading towards Kushans. Angle should be sending more troops to Kushans (and then grens would be nice too, if we can)

Nappy has 3 cav, 1 cannon, 1 rifleman, 1 gren coming towards Djenne/walata. Let them attack and die. Wipe out the wounded, and then take Orleans or Marseilles. *Just an opinion, see how it all works out.

* HC is willing to sell us ivory! We have lots of resources we can trade for it.

* Toku is willing to stop trading with Monty and Nappy. We'' have to give him a tech to do it though. Is that smart? (rice for pigs trade with Nappy, Toku only has open borders with Monty)

I wonder if Toku, or anyone for that matter, would join us in the war? Hmmmm... would be easier to make a pact with a civ who has gone to war with us (on our team, not against us)

Of course! In fact, I'm not spoiling it for myself either. :D I only look at the savegame to access the current situation.

SG's are highly stressful. There should be a warning sticky thread about that.

Yup! And I'm not even playing the game. :D This is almost like a Tom Clancy novel; I can't wait to see how things turn out. :crazyeye:


I would like to throw out a few thoughts and see if anyone has already taken this into consideration:

-I agree that Orleans is a feasible target. According to the F8 info screen, Orleans contains the Hanging Gardens which, among other things, give +1 health to all cities. This could be potentially damaging to Nappy's empire. However, one has to consider the fact that its right in the middle of Nappy's empire and that the city will be surrounded on all sides if it was captured.

-An alliance with Saladin would be great but he considers the Mali empire heathen. :mad:

-I might have glossed over something but why are you guys researching physics? Wouldnt Assembly line be a better choice? You could temporary sue for peace while outfitting your cities with factories and then return with a vengeance! :ar15:

-If you do decide to hit Orleans, I think having Toku end trade with Nappy would be a good idea. The lost of the sheep (+1 health) and the Hanging Gardens (+1 health) might be a significant enough hit to stunt his growth in the short run.

I do have Rome:TW, never got the expansion (was on my santa list, but santa was good to me this year anyway, so no regrets)

Besides Civ 4, I mostly play CoD2 (tactical realism is where it's at)

As for Orleans, that does it. I want that sucker!
Mostly wanted it just to kill Nappys prophet, but if we get his wonder..., end of story. Take it! (middle of his empire at that point is not a problem, we will have taken his #2 city, Orleans, and his #3 city is already in our hands)

And in the SG rules, we cannot declare war ourselves... so if we make peace, the AI would be mad to declare war on us. We will be bigger and stronger than most other civs. (unless they do an alliance against us, which is what we are almost dealing with now)

If we ever capture Monty's holy city, we could even spam budhist missionaries, and convert our empire to budhism. We would get all the budhist money, and everyone would love us!

* as for researching Physics, it was a good idea at the time?
(if nobody had it, we would get a free great person I think)
If we do get it, we can always trade it for something, (railway, biology?)
We aren't that bad off, techwise. Some civs have not discovered steam power, toku is falling behind in tech too. I think we are three techs up on him now.

Ah, so it was Egosoft forums! Maybe we should do X3-theme succession game next round. We could be the Khaak and go always war! :D

I forgot to mention the tech lead. There is none now, I think. :mad: According to the foreign advisor tech trade screen, Nappy, HC, Alex, and Saladin already have physics. Three civs have Communism and four civs have Bio.
 
Okay guys i'll get the save and play a bit later this afternoon. (I only just got up .)

Capture a city from Nappy
Sign peace with Monte
Get our research going
Try to get us an ally (probably not going to happen)

Just a side comment, after we win this game (which i'm sure we will) are we going to have a Lurker's III? It could be cool and a bit different if we actually make it a peaceful game? Just a suggestion.

BlackLuck, DO NOT sign any peace treaties unless Djenne is burning and there are catapults and an army of orcs/cave trolls at the gates of timbuktu. Er, whatever... you get my meaning.
I think we have Nappy on his heels now but still not out of it.

BlackLuck or Percinho can give him the knockout punch, and from then on we just annex his entire empire. That'll teach the backstabber a lesson. (remember all that culture he had, it will all be ours soon). We won't even need many Hindu missionaries in his cities. This can work out real good for us. I wonder how Orleans or Paris is looking now?
 
Okay here are some screenies and a turn summary.

I managed to save us some money by changing civics as wellas getting us some new friends by switching to free religion which made Huanya Capac and Saladin (i think) pleased with us. I would have signed a defensive pact but i cant cause were at war. I also made peace with monte.

On the war front i managed to kick out nappy's pillagers as well as take Marseilles :D and i currently have an army approaching Orleans. Nappy has landed some troops in the south however so beware (see accompanying screenies). I also rebuilt some of the things Nappy pillaged and got a few of our cities out of starvation.

Overall our empire is on an entirely war footing with only 1 city not producing a miliatary unit. I suggest that we take a couple more of Nappy's cities before he can recover and then make peace as war weariness is starting to creep in as well.

Actually no, I'm not. From the look of it, Sir T is the one who is using BM. I think it is wonderful, but my feeble eyes find it difficult to tell the difference between plains and grasslands in this mod. For my screens, I suspect the Irfanview resize and sharpen tools bring out some extra details in the landscape textures (plus I have Civ set up to save in BMP; I do a batch conversion to JPG after I have finished all the editing).

that monty sues for peace just boggles me... he takes all that effort to bribe nappy to attack us then slacks off and watches his buddy get his ass kicked up down left right and the other way.

let me look at the save to see what all driveways Liq gets to wash the blood from when I'm back up and which lawns need trimming the most. Fully expect us to be at peace when I come up and well the muffster knows what to expect from Liq's infra-struck-sure runs!

hey muf only one other neighbor hasn;t attacked us, who could that be?
