SG Lurkers, ready?

oh black when we get physics next turn try and get biology for it we can use the extra food at pigpen. rail roads would be nice as well but only nap and monty have it so far.

as for next tech.. railroads or assembly line...

railroads gives us rails + a great defensive unit if we expect peace my turn or go assembly line as infantry will just clobber nappy...

Do trade get biology from cyrus tho I do not think he has physics yet.

Cheers!

If we do get Physics first (anyone else get it yet?) we get a free great scientist. We have an academy in Timbuktu? If not, do we build one, or grab a free tech? (I think HC and his pals did that to us earlier on to get a two tech lead in such a short amount of turns). Or, do we make a super specialist?

We may be able to grab a free tech with that specialist, and then trade physics to several parties to get Biology and Railroads. From there, I'd like assembly line (Factories). We only have ONE oil tile so far (with a waiting work boat for it), but I think we might want to get combustion soon (destroyers). Steam Tanks were a bust, what if we use gas in them instead? Electricity & flight are worth thinking about too. Communism has it's good points... hmmm. OK, I vote we get them all. ;)

I think assembly line is more important for us right now though. Mg's are useless to us on the attack, if we were defending I'd say sure, but on the attack we want infantry. Nappy can't stop us with one decent non-offensive unit. If he spams Mg's, we strip his empire of improved tiles. Starve him to death, or until he makes a move. Then swarm him.

I would like to tell you liq, where I get my smilies, but you have to be 18 to get into the sites I visit.
heh heh. (I am SO joking). :groucho:
I forgot which one it was, have two bookmarked, but this thread made me google smileys to keep my posts interesting.

"If you don't have much to say, then get people to remember how well you said it." - Mom
ma8iq.gif

That was a unique smiley though, huh? I thought it fit the whole Nappy affair quite well.

And for the question. My answer is, "Who is Saladin, liq". Did I win a cookie or something? I'm getting good at this. Could it be that I'm smarter than all those teachers, employers and strangers have always said! (Knowing how to tie ones own shoes should not be used as a method for judging a persons IQ, btw. Who can keep track of all them laces and stuff? Velcro is the way of the future, my friends)

*OMG, my "speeling" has taken a dip and a slow roll to the left. Maybe it's time I download this forums spell checker, huh?

For my screens, I suspect the Irfanview resize and sharpen tools bring out some extra details in the landscape textures (plus I have Civ set up to save in BMP; I do a batch conversion to JPG after I have finished all the editing).

Oh. I see. I will have to test that.
Since my last turn, I have installed Blue Marble. Looks nice.
Saving in BMP huh? Hmmm, might want to look into that.
Infranview? I've been using Photo Studio 5.5 to resize and sharpen. Will compare the two, but I think a higher detail BMP might be a good idea.
*Edit: I think I will use my fraps to save in BMP, and then resize/sharpen with both. See what's better. Can't figure out how to get game to save in BMP ATM. Don't really need to learn if I use fraps either. **Edit2, I figured out how to save in BMP

I also installed the auto-log thingy. I think it will work next time I run it. (*edit- re-tested today, it all checks out*) I think I will still do my turns the old fashioned way, but refer to the auto-log to add details that I may have overlooked. Or to count the corpses, cause when I fight, people die in large numbers. I wonder why that is?

* EDIT: Sir Toma is a good fighter, because he has to deal with them vicious roo's down south. Ugh. (Kangaroo's are the #1 factor in all roo related fatalities) I'm just glad where I live, all we have are grizzlies and cougars (luvable and cuddly creatures). The most dangerous thing we have is a marmot.

Next up is Percinho. I hope he has been storing all his pent up rage and bitterness in a festering pill in his tummy (like I always do), and just snaps all over Nappy!

As you can see, only one coffee in my system. I will level out later today, but am in a playful mood right now. Going to tell myself some jokes, and grab another coffee. *Must stop perma-editing the same post. Step back from the keyboard, muffin!*

lets see.. liq is participating in moo SG's.. what's moo? what's dos? what are darloks?

Liq still has the original CIV 3.5 floppy...

Liq rememebrs fondly M.U.L.E on a 'borrowed' c64

so does that put Liq over 18 yet?

pm me the smilies muf or I give the seal to monty!

I'm not sure if Percinho is going to be posting his turn tonight or not. He said today was a maybe for him, yesterday.
I hope he will be posting soon, but if now, BlackLuck should be standing by to take over. It is almost 24hrs, and still no I got it post.

mass peeps have physics btw... just trade it for um the swily red thing... drugs? medicine no! biology!

black just go, game is getting good! luv ran out of crap to obcess over we need more dirt!

Cheers!

Will never happen!
I have a mitt full of opinions. Was just hoping to get more input from the SG. I don't want to seem like my opinion is the right one. I was wrong once, back in the 90's sometime. It does happen, you know.

Trading Physics seems best, I agree. No free specialist for us. rats!
Still should get a specialist from PigPen very soon. Depending on what it is (probability is across the board now) may have a noticable effect on us.
Culture bomb for Tokyo I hope.
Representation might be a civic worth looking into. Our 6 largest cities get a whack load of smileys, lots of our cities are not happy right now.
We have a large army, could start building police stations or colleseums in our problem cities while maintaining the pressure on Nappy.
Where are we going to put our forbidden palace, btw? If we get an engineer we could slam another wonder into our cities. That would be pretty sweet.

Get Orleans! 3 wonders in that city. When we take it, Nappy's culture will crash. Once it comes out of rebellion, our cities will be sitting pretty with the bonuses.
Buy Tokyo that library that is slowly getting built. If we change civics, make sure we get that library built before we do it.
Should we go Theocracy as a civic? One civic that will generate some XP for our units, maybe let vassalge go and use something peacefull there instead.
Civics are not my strong suit, so have a look at what our options are before commiting to new direction.

With our army size, BlackLuck may be able to get two cities before handing the torch back to Percinho!
We have an ironclad somewhere, right? Do we risk naval combat with Nappy when we are winning the ground war? It might just get our navy killed, unless we have superior forces. Take a look at upgrading some caravels to Frigates, just in case.
What is going on with Saladin and Anjar? That city should have been ours a long time ago. Is he culture bombing us or something?

See who will trade us something decent for steam power too. If we trade our Steam Power, and Physics... if we can pick up Biology and railroad, either combustion (oil well) or assembly line (factories) makes sense.

*Just a few opinions. Whomever plays the next turn should always use their best judgement. What I think now would likely change if it were me sitting in the hotseat and sweating the big decisions. Heh heh.

The SG has been humming lately, hope we can keep the momentum going.

only peeps that have rail road are monty and nappy.... so DENIED..

only oil we have needs plastic... for off shore. right? if nappy has oil take that region over.

Cheers!
-Liq

Orleans has oil! (and horses, and more stuff too, what a prize).

What is this multi-post rule you speak of?

Still not sure about civics, I am twisting about it.
I think if we build police stations we can handle the war weariness. And some cities can build cathedrals too. Maybe keeping peaceful civs is smart, and using our 1st place production to overrun Nappy will work for us. Civics make my head hurt, trying to decide which is best.

Still no word from Blackluck or Percinho? :( rats. Maybe we'll get lucky and see something tonight, but it's looking like tommorow before we can see what our future holds for our growing empire.
I wonder if Liq's new seal pup JPG will inflame Saladin into a murderous rage and we will fight our fourth neighbor. Might even get Anjar that way! lol

In fact the only Kangaroo i ever fought was 1 i was trying to cuddle and it was resisting. Unfortunantely i came off second best as it quickly punched me in the nose and made a get away (At the time i was glad it didn't kick me down stairs OUCH!). Damn those hopping bastards:D

More Lurker Commentary! ;)

Although war weariness is currently an issue with your empire, I don't think you should pause just yet to build buildings to combat it. The primary concern here should be to regroup your forces and push for Orleans. Changing civics is important although I think the effects of such are too late to help you in the war against Nappy. (This is assuming that you're going to capture a city or two and then sue for peace.)

In the long run, you could tech towards Facism for Police State (two techs aways) for that +25% military production. But IMHO, I would suggest Assembly Line because you could then get Factory + Coal Plant for a more significant boost to your production. You would also have access to the next level of units (Infantry in particular).

Cheers!:band:

(Heh heh)

About the war with Nappy: (thanks for the comments, Temmage)
In my opinion (and I admit, I am just an average player among a host of slick Civ fanatics), we should grind Nappy into history.

We could use the extra land if we have to go for a Dom win, if culture isn't going to work. And, strategically I think it would be a mistake to prematurely cut this war short. We are going to take Orleans. If not with our present stack, we have lots more at Marseilles. But after Orleans, where would we stand? (Nappy will be in serious trouble)
- I think having a port to the north (Lyons or Chartres) would meet our minimum strategic needs if we need to react to anything up north. Another port is always good for our bottom line too.
- I would like an Eastern Port, in case we go to war with Toku again. A port in the NE would be able to build raiders to pillage his fishing fleet, and one day bombard his cities with destroyers/battleships if he decides to attack us again.

When we take Orleans, a northern and NE port, Nappy is pretty much history anyway. If we don't finish him off, we may one day find him and Toku rolling modern tanks across our borders. I bet they will also get into a pact with someone, so we will have to fight their friends too. Right now, Monty, Nappy and Toku were/are our enemies. If we eliminate one of our enemies, we have one less person voting against us on the UN, and one less empire using diplomacy to block our attempts at normalized relations with the other civs.

Grabbing Nappy's luxury resources may even solve our happiness issues as the war continues. This war may solve it's own problems! (or maybe not, but the wonders and resources will be pretty sweet after we win).

I'm not in charge though, just my opinion. If peace does break out, I think it should only be after we eliminate one of our enemies from further interference.
Then we may be able to get down to some serious building, if the other civs would stop trying to attack us!

Sorry all, have been unable to post for a couple of days. I'm not going to have time to do it justice tonight as circumstances have conspired against me being able to get any decent playing time at the moment. If no-one has any objections, can you put me on skips for the moment? I think I'll be able to play again in a couple of weeks, but until then I think I'll have to resort to the role of watcher and commenter.

You ain't gonna get rid of me though, I'll be keeping an eye on you! :D

Hi guys. Due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. work) I won't be able to continue with this SG. I apologize for this, but I simply won't have the time to continue. Good luck all and have fun.

oh #$^#$^ me.. I just went luv_muffin on merz01 and wasted 6 hours on the turns and writup.

5:30 AD I mean AM! sure I can do this!!!!!

so you say kick nappy in the sack and have our way with the gals in the orleans? aye aye cap'n.

let me read what that liq guy told me to do.

Cheers!
-Liq

don;t expect a frilly writup I was assuming to do this turn later!!! but the dude in the top hat flaked on us!!!

man sir T, wear your shirt normal like and help out some!

Cheers!
-Liq'd

Rats!
BlackLuck got ambushed by the "real" world. Grrr.
Hope to see you around dude, was nice getting to know you.

Percinho is out of action too for a while? Nuts.
Hope to see you back in action soon. Take care of whatever you gotta do.

***********************
Liq, is out of control! :crazyeye:
Heh heh.
I'm assuming "going Luv_Muffin" is a good thing, right?
6 hours for the turn & writing a gripping (and color co-ordinated) turn log sounds about right. Remember, I also have to pause and ask my victims to say "Cheese", so I can take a screen shot (that I rarely use) of their death spasms.

So Liq gets to take a swing at combat this turn. This should be interesting.
I wonder if this will mean I won't have to deal with another declaration of war on my turn. Heh heh.
*Just read your other report, Liq. OMG! Whatever you're on, I want some!
smoke5iq.gif

And yeah, Sir Toma, wear your shirt properly! Tsk tsk tsk. You are supposed to be representing the Lurkers. (He's such a wild man sometimes).

Liq and Muffin discussing strategy.
*Liq is holding the issue with the "Ms. Orleans" centrefold.
Now we know why we are heading for that city.

Nice Pics! :D I recognize the first one as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure but I cant seem to remember what movie the second pic (with Bill Murray) is from. Would you care to enlighten me Luv_Muffin (or anyone else for the matter)?

From Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure:

Mr. Ryan: What you're telling me, essentially, is that Napoleon is a short, dead dude?

Sounds about right in a few turns, eh?
