SG_Politics - The Great Experiment

well i can't wait till one of the science parties gets going, i thought that ud like the extra Collosus commerce.

Quick thought:

How about a "Winner' of the succesion game, the most influential party. For intance i get us into a bunch of victorious wars andd we win through my parties perfered victory type (even tho everything i did so far was basically canceled out by the Capitalists) then i would win, understand?

i was however hoping that we could switch the Collosus to the Great Library if that wonder wasn't appreciated, this should display my willingness to work with the science parties.
i'd work with the other two of you too if ud be as willing to accept co-operation as cid.

long live penta-partisinship!

PS, doesn't it sorta defeat the purpose if all succesion games, especially this one, to attempt to dictate what the other players can and cannot do? we must compromise not order.

Stepping out of Mother Green character, I think setting up a way for one of the parties to win would be really cool and great incentive to have us compete amongst each other. I'm all up for ideas on how to flush out some sort of objective ruleset in determining the victor. I'd be up for developing a points sort of scale. But how a rule would get points is up for debate. What this game really does need is a moderator outside of the action - a person who can be objective to all parties. If we can devise a way to score people, I'd be willing to step out of the game and simply be the "referee" sort to say. Earl of Chester is on the waiting list and he can simply take my spot with his own party.

As for working together - succession games by their nature seem to be inclined for working together. This should be no different - but at the same time - players in this type of game are allowed to radically depart from the group's overall plan. It's how we make that compromise to return to an overall plan which will be interesting. Right now, the game feels sort of like a normal succession game since it is right at the beginning. I'm eager to see how the game will commence as our options expand with time. As our options increase, so will our points of conflict. And its those conflict points which will make the game fun.

As for the Great Wonders - those bad boys are hard to control and its going to take a lot of diplomatic persuasion to keep one wonder going to completeion. The only real power you have over a wonder is to allow it to continue. It wouldn't be out of line for you to say take that wonder and convert it into barracks because that would suit your politcal party. My party has a very uncompromising aura and when it comes to my leadership, it was going to change to the great library anyways. Of course, this might get you irked, but you can work with other parties to stone wall me in the future.

I think TG Cid set a great tone by taking credit for everything. Even when it was a stretch.

Who knows - this sucession concept can be a failure and a half. But I'm having fun and I certainly got a kick out of the flags. let's keep the spirit going and bring back partinship to Washington ;)

Ok I'm up but I will start after school! See ya in 5 hours.
Scifi rulez!

Ya so do i! Ok im playing now.

Oki that was me. Hey if anyone builds colloseus build it in Kevinville... ;)

Jezner on Deck
When does lkendter play?

i like the idea of winning through your parties perferred victory type leading to winning the SG... how do you guys like it. only problem i can see is with the 2 Science parties.

this type of game would probably explode throughout the SG world if we could figure out a way to win. We could be Pioneers... trendsetters..... or just losers with a really cool type of SG.

Rule Wisely

2 science parties? I thought i was the only one?!

And that with the SG boom. Well people would have to know about it first. Right now i think only the parties here know the secret of this new type of SG.

The Mother Green Party, full of patriotic fervor, waves their hands to a much rejoicing crowd. The crowd are happy that the peace loving environmentalists are back in power to set the correct course of the nation.

During an acceptance speech, Jezner the 2nd proclaims his principles to his countrymen

* Only two units defensive units per city will be allowed. All other units will be disbanded.

* Jezner the 2nd has a great vision of the largest library in the world. He wishes to commence of this project as a great tribute to the Mother Green Party.

* Jezner the 2nd wishes to increase American releations with our friendly neighbors, the Babylonians.

* Jezner has yet to look at the game in awhile, but there seemed to be a unit trapped in Babyloinian territory. If this is still the case, then the American's will negogiate a right of passage agreement with the Babylonians to recover our lost unit.

* Jezner does not approve of city walls, being they connotate a violent message to our neighbors. The Great Jezner the 2nd is comtemplating selling off city walls and putting the money into temples and marketplaces.

* Jezner wishes to balance the American budget, even if it means slashing technology research.

* Jezner the 2nd wishes to increase trade with the neighbors.

* Jezner the 2nd wishes to move to Monarchy, allowing people greater freedoms.

* Jezner the 2nd also wishes to research peaceful technologies and again, promote the idea of earth unity.

* For every forest that is slashed and burned, Jezner will plant another.

The crowd swoons to the great speech. Jezner the 2nd takes his reign tonight. Other parties may comment on the great speech since Jezner the 2nd is open to communication.

Alot of restrictions for the mother greens!
The disbanding units is really silly. That's just my meaning, i suggest if we wasted the money on them already we should put them in cities but not disband. We can be nicer to the Babylonians but i do suggest we get rid of them sooner or later. We'll see. Wuha. The unit trapped i set free. No need for a right of passage. And we need walls to defend ourselves from the vikings or any civilization that seems over us suprior. I do agree with the Monarchy. And i do suggest we even the budget but still have some money kept for science. And since you put down some rulez I'll put down some too.

1) Kevin the II says:A city must have a unit defending it in case of barbarians or razing civilizations, including a city wall!
2) Kevin the II thinks the colosseus is a great advance for the entire civilization and for the interests of the people.
3) Kevin the II suggests that always 50% is invested in science to keep up to the other civilizations.
4) Kevin the II accepts all interests of investment of very important science improvements in the coming.
5) Kevin the II does what he wants...

I like 5 :p

Man, this SG is moving along pretty quickly. This is the first time I got to log online since my last post, school is taking up too much of my life  . Only reason why I posted so frequently yesterday was because I was sick (and no, I did not fake it, the leader of the Enlightenment Party would never do such a thing ;) ).

Anyways, I have several issues to address, considering so much has transpired.

The victory policy, I think is a good idea, though there are a few flaws.

First, I agree with Jezner, we need a "neutral" operator. I don't know if he'll do it, but of all the people on this board, I would LOVE  for Sirian to do it. I've been reading a bunch of his posts, he is one of, if not the, most experienced Civ players here. If he can't for some reason or another, we'll have to agree on someone else, someone neutral , mind you :) .

Second thing about the victory policy, ahem, not to sound rude here, but it does favor the Mother Green Party, just a tad don't you think ;) ? A UN Victory, isn't necessarily always the easiest to achieve, but in this case, when it happens to be their turn, they can simply choose to have the vote. I don't think any of the other parties would DARE to cancel construction of the UN, I for one would NOT. Letting that all-important wonder fall into AI hands is a mistake I made once, and will not forget. So with it under construction, and no other party willing to touch it (for the cost of losing altogether), the Mother Greens merely have to hold an election when their turn comes. Now the domination party can win in such a scenario, they would just have to procrastinate researching Fusion and conquer the world before it is discovered by anybody . However, the Enlightenment Party, whose Victory type I defined as Spaceship, needs fusion before it can construct the spaceship parts.

Finally, the SciFi and Capitalist Parties need to define their preferred victory type.

All these problems are workable, and ways can probably be found around them. Just wanted to bring them up now, instead at the end of the game, when we'll really be fighting over this ;) .

Umm, let's see here, other issues that I had to address...

Oh yes, that's right, 2 capable defenders per city sounds fine to me, I agree with the Mother Green Party on this one. I like a Republic/Democracy for a Government system, and the Enlightenment Party does not want our treasury bogged down (thus forcing for a cut in research expenditures). Maybe throw in an extra where areas of conflict are likely to occur, but 2 sounds reasonable.

The Pyramids are an interesting wonder, but the Enlightenment Party favors the Colossus, increased trade revenue is VERY nice, besides, Pyramids become pretty obsolete (despite the fact that it doesn't ACTUALLY expire) towards mid-game, because by then, most of the land will have been settled anyways. Colossus proves useful until Flight (obviously).

Oh, and I trust Literature has been discovered by now? What are we currently researching on?

I don't think any of the other parties would DARE to cancel construction of the UN,

hehe good idea.....

actually your right.... we have to develop a better way to win.

talk to Sirian

What the Enlightment party has Spaceship as win? Damnit that's what i thought i had. Well then. How bout both of us?
And with the wonders I'd prefer Theory of Evolution but that might take some time. Or Great Library. I think we do have that.
And I still think we should improve our defence, 2 is ok but not enough. Man i think I'm a little Militaristic. Anywho, i do suggest we build an army to raid ransack and kill the Babylonians! (Man am i militaristic :borg: )
And what's this with a neutral operater?

dangit i'm supposed to be the violent 1... i cannot see how a war with babbylon is feasable... yet. We MUST be prepared if we wnt to war, such as building archers and Swordsmen. by the way, while the leaders of my party are not Ruling Sir Nicholas and his descendants are generals and another branch of the family are hereditary high preists in the Unity Church of America.

Well of course we have to be prepared! You never now what is in their feeble minds! Besides they take up room. Get em now, no worries later!
And the HQ of my party is in Kevinville including family. Oh just one question: Is the Enlightment Party for science or for culture? Cauz i thought for culture hence their name "enlightment" to cheer the people up! If the party is science. Well then...More points for us...Or?

Yes, actually the Enlightenment Party bends heavily towards reseraching technology, and greedily keeping it out of rival hands :D . I guess the name can be a bit decieving, but "Enlighten" also deals with Philosophy and technology.

I don't mind having two Science Parties, though I'm sure the other political parties aren't thrilled over it  . The game's already begun...maybe we should edit our points of view slightly so we differ a bit more? We can both do research, but in a different style? Such as one is more of a militaristic researcher, while one shoots for more cultural technology? What do you think? If that's that case, I'll be the culture one, my name fits perfectly then actually, technology & culture, perfectly wrapped together :goodjob: .

Hehe, I'll take that as a complement Jezner ;) . After all, isn't that what all great politicans do  ?

I do agree we must come up with some sort of common ruleset which everyone can agree. Something that is clear and concrete. Winning the Civ game should not be the point because you're right - the deck is stacked towards certain philosphies (ie, UN victory) We could have a moderator who could also be a score keeper. The moderator will not tell the players score until the end of the game. Or at various points of the game - like each age transition.

Doing various deeds acording to your stated goals will get you points. So if you are a Conquering type party, say each barrack you successfully build will get you points. Or each city you take over will get you points.

Also how does this sound - play half your turn and post the results and your intentions for the second half. Give a brief pause then play your second half. That way, people will be able to advise/cut deals with you. Any thoughts?
Also, I'm down to be a moderator or have another person come in and do it. It's what everyone wants.

i likre the Moderator plan how about a Set of point values like this:

Each improvement for your party (ie Barracks 4me): 1 pt
Each Significant Event in your parties goals(Capture city, or for capitalists get gold over a certain surplus per turn): 2 pts
Each Wonder for your parties goals(Sun Tzu's for instance): 4 pts

maybe if a Wonder/improvement had multiple facets that are held by seperate parties(ie libraries) the points could be split between the 2 parties to reward them for compromising.

how is the idea?

Ok I'll be the Mitlitarialistic research party. And that stuff with the points is cool. But who is going to do it now?
