SGOTM 01 - Rat Pack

got rifling from Cyrus who is actually pleased
started to shift units towards Huayna

though my computer wasn't that hot, game shut it down...well, I simply love CIV
loaded autosave and continued

landed units next to Vitcos and took it the next turn
now moving towards the next city, Vilcas
we get Mil tradition soon and need to watch out as India has ironclads

---------->The Save<----------
Inherited Turn:
Our invasion forces near Vilcas take a beating.

1
Move units to the Incas

2
Tarsus is under heavy fire. Unfortunately there is no galleon nearby.

4
Take Vilcas.

5
Western Front:
Catapult and Mace attack, but fail.

6
Learn Military tradition. Go for biology since nobody has it yet.
Looks like reinforcements for Tarsus will come too late.

7
Tarsus fals back to the Indians. Troops are wating in Yaroslav to win it back.

9
Indian ironclad hunts our Frigates in Incan waters.

10
With Indian ironclads appearing left and right, reinforcements are difficult to send. I suggest to wait with reconquering Tarsus until we have our first cavs.
One ironclad is in the fog near the Incan holy city.

I think the idea is to not attack India for the time being until we are strong enough. There is no point defending there, that's why i moved all forces to Huyana.
We should wipe them out first before taking on India.

Ok,my pc hasn't been locked totally, only some parts.
So,the only solution is a clean installation.
I suggest everyone to stay away from IHost(Photo) services.
By clicking at their sites/thumbnails you risk a virus which will
lock your desktop right after the booting process.

On topic.Yes I can play civ4.
I did take a look at the last save and was shocked at our
current position.50% culture and still a lot of unhappiness,
30% taxes and still running negative.Techs in 40 turns  .
Caravels fighting destroyers.I see no more hope for this game.

I suggest to stop this nightmare.
If the team wants to continue,I will also.

I think I have to agree. We are trapped with huge WW in a war we cannot win and need democracy as well.

Being so far behind in tech is going to make it very difficult. From the games I have tried to play out, I don't think we can hurt Ghandi quickly enough to get a win from this. Diplo seems out as Ghandhi is friendly with both Roosevelt and Cyrus both. We may be able to eliminate Hyunis, but until we do this we will make no progress. It is also possible that Hyunis will get tanks before we do.

Our tech isn't the only thing that is at a standstill. Our production is dropping rapidly - due to unhappy people, though we can help this - some towns don't even have theatre.

Having played some alliance based games, WW will only get worse without bound. WW is too badly broken for one to play alliance games.

We got ourselves trapped in a situation I strongly doubt we will get out of. We didn't know the SGOTM rules nor the Civ4 rules well enough.

I say we concede. Otherwise we are just playing it out probably with no discussions or interest in the game.

ok, let's, concede that. I agree that this was played non optimal, but then I have to say we didn't know the boundaries of permanent peace and war. I think a permanent alliance (or permanent whatever) game in CIV is to be treated with utmost care (aka don't play that sort of game)

Alright. If everyone agrees then let's conceede the the mighty AI. :)

If by some off chance you guys continue this I will be out of town until next Sunday.

Not sure I would have time for this, but I could get curious and play this out some distance. Would anyone here care if I did this? I would probably submit some save in the future.

Not at all sure I have the time and the game may be too depressing, but there are things that can be learned from playing out a loss as well as a win.

[Edit: Also don't we have to play it out to try for the vaunted wooden spoon? Not that I think we will get it...]

Greebley, go ahead and play this out. I have no issue with this, maybe you can get us the wooden spoon even

A phoenix has risen from the ashes of a lost game.

Ok, I got it and am willing to play some more. A permanant alliance sounds good though WW may get really bad with the AI ineffectively attacking the other AI. We should work on getting things needed to reduce WW.

Getting the techs or capturing the Pyramids comes to mind.

I must say Tatran that an Permanant Alliance with America was an extremely good idea and one I hadn't thought of. It allows us to gain all of America's techs and jump to 51% world domination. This solves the tech hole problem very nicely as we can now get civics to reduce the WW and emancipation unhappiness that was so crippling us. Very clever strategy.

I am curious on what you needed to do to acchieve it. We needed to both be fighting the same enemy to acchieve it correct? Did you get America to declare war or something? In any case, if you would post "what you had to do" to get the alliance, I would be very interested.

First thing I do is look into our civics and decide to switch.

I go for
State Propery
Emancipation
Free Speech
Police State

We can lower culture to 30% and raise science back to 50% (so +40% on the science. Looks like Washington is still the main source of the tech though with it reducing only a turn (6 turns to 5).

Since we are at 51% of the world, I am thinking that trying to take out the Incans should be our main goal. Lets knock out at least one enemy.

St Petersburg is a pretty strong city in terms of Mines. I am going to use the Great Engineer to rush the Iron works there.

Request some resources from Washington. This gets us coal so we can build RR and allows us to go to 20% Lux and positive gold. I decide to go for positive gold because I would like to upgrade are Grenadiers to Infantry to help vs the Incans and because America is doing most of the work on our next tech - 40% science still gives us the next tech in 5 but also gives us +192 gpt for upgrades.

Finally, I declare war on Saladin. My hope is that America can win with Infantry and Artillery vs their Longbows :D That will give us more land.

Upgrade using up most of our cash on hand (3000 gpt more or less).

IBT: Ghandi lands a very strong force. Don't think we can hold him off...
Washington is making progress on the Incans. I think they are doomed fighting us both

1808 AD: Move units - some more upgrades.

IBT: Our town does fall and is razed. Just too many Artillery. I think I can keep him to only one town though.

1810 AD: Move first units into postion to attack the invasion force.

IBT: We are pillaged. Washington is doing poorly suddenly. Not sure why???

1811 AD: Lousy luck vs the attackers losing two battles in our favor - so we go 2-2.

IBT: Incans reinforce their capitol. Looks like it will hold. Drat it.

1812 AD: Finish off the Indian invasion, but continue to get bad RNG. It was about twice as expensive as it could have been.

1814 AD: Washington is finally making progress vs Saladin. The AI does not do well when you suprise it with war. It just sits there even though it has the troops in towns.

1827 AD: We finally have enough troops to try for the Incan capitol. It costs us 3-4 Artillery, but the city is taken. I wanted to play until we had at least some progress. I will round off the turns to 1830 AD.
1828 AD: We build our first tank.

1830 AD: Advancing on the next incan town.

Notes:
We are at 55% of the lands. We can probably win without fighting Ghandi.

I think we should take out the rest of the Incans including an amphibious assault on the size 1 city (seen at the very bottom of the picture below). That will allow us to reduce WW a good bit I suspect and allow us to lower Lux to a more reasonable level.

After we take out the incans, I would go for Cyrus' lands next rather than trying to fight Ghandi to get us to 66% for a domination win (assuming the Incans don't get us to 66% already).

Some other comments:

I realize I didn't mention which town we lost. It was the fairly unimportant one nearest to Ghandi's lands. I didn't note the name before it was razed.

We have also seen no sign of an invasion since - though we did have some troubles with Indian boats.

Who wants to play next? I would think anyone can go next (provided they haven't looked at the other player's games. From this point I think the win will be relatively straight forward. The permanant alliance has switched us from a near certain loss to a near certain win.

Delhi has 63k culture. Impressive.

I am curious on what you needed to do to acchieve it.
Money,money,money.

We needed to both be fighting the same enemy to acchieve it correct?
No,you only have to share 40 turns of war.

We were lucky the price America asked for another war was very low.
I've seen the AI asking 5000 gold or more to start a war.
After that we had to wait for those 40 turns and survive.

great progress here :goodjob:
Let's take out Huayna and hope it gives us 66%.

acid is inactive at the moment (gf issues). So, I guess either Till, knupp or myself can play this. I will wait for tonight to see whether there is any response, but have to work late for 2 nights.

I have not looked at other threads, thus can still play...
