SGOTM 01 - Realms Beyond

If we can take that last city, go for it - it doesn't matter too much if we lose a few units at this stage since she's the last one on the continent and finishing her off will help the economy and happiness greatly. Is there room for another city on the southeastern tip of the island?

Well yes and no. There is room on the desert plains but I wouldn't build one there are our focus should be getting off our Island and attacking Cyrus once our economy can handle it.

Ok Here we go: I did take that last city and only lost 2 units which isn't bad since now cathy is dead and our island is secure.

Below are 5 screen shots of the state of our union. As you can see most of our cities are less than 10 turns away from completing a market place :goodjob:

Other notables, I did complete The hanging gardens in under 10 turns and other wonders can also be built if focused upon.

Furthermore we now have priesthood and can build temples to increase :) if we need to.

Alright I now need to post the save but need to figure out how to do that

Also attached is one last screen shot our segway into our next victim, Cyrus. Now by all means those two units I dropped off Were solely to explore the island initially. Ideally All of our remaining units should be convoyed over, (while we still have open borders) through the passage in the screen shot. (once the second galley who is going around the horn gets there it will become faster).

Once units are on the island then a full out attack can comence ideally taking 2 cities on the first pass and then suing for peace (which can be done with our current unit strength)

Ok I think I figured it out.... And if we can keep our current increase going we will be in great shape (based on the graph)

350 AD

If it doesn't work let me know

Ok "Orders"

1. Next turn we discover Metal Casting. Trade it to ghandi for whatever he will offer. (should be worth 2 techs + money, but i don't think he will let go of drama yet) which will help us put our research up. Right now it is at 40% but increase it at your leisure as marketplaces are on thier way and getting COL is important.

2. In the north When one worker finishes the road, start helping on the mine.

3. Have Fun

"Strong Suggestions"

1. On your first turn in Novogard (City to the SE) change production from a granary to forge. Once that is done start on the Colosus. The key to this are those 5-6 forests down there which will need to be clear cutted. Note two of them are almost done chopping and those 60 :hammers: will be worth over 1/3 of the forge. Use another 2 chops on the forge and it should be done. (with the hammers in between) that leaves you with 2 forests (which will each net 30 * 100% (copper) * 25% (forge) for a total of 75 Hammers a chop  Now two chops = 150 hammers (and with the builf of the city you will get the Colussus in 11 turns) The pattern of the workers can be seen in the screen shot as
"Red" ==> "Blue" ==> "Teal" with production being
Forge==>Colousus

2. Don't ever chop forest on tundra, it is better to build a lumber mill on them

3. Don't use the whip all of our cities are gowing and have room to spare.

4. Start Forges in cities which complete marketplaces.

5. Have Fun

"Minor Suggestions"

1.Convoy all of our units extra units (axemen, chariots) to the other island and explore all the while drawing up a point of attack for roughly ~20 turns down the road.

2. Reasearch COL next

3. Have Fun

Geeze, i leave for a couple a hours and there are 17 new posts :crazyeye:

Memphus's suggestions sound fine.... getting cathy out of the way was really important, I think... Do we control more land than everyone else?

Also, since Gandhi and Cyrus are friends, I think we should plan an attack, but not necessarily execute it, if you know what I mean.

Do well, play well, and, most importantly, have fun. I mean, it's a game, right? :P

There's no point in sending all our units over there, it'll just cost us maintenance unless there's an unclaimed tile they can sit in since they'll get booted out if we declare war - i'd just send some chariots to explore.

I'd also be wary of chopping the forge too much - they're much more valuable on the colossus once the forge is finished (+25% from the forge and 100% from the copper).

Has anyone checked the VCs screen to see how far away from spoiler 1-ness we are?

Ok for the Units, (there is unclaimed land though)

As for the Forge I disagree there are 6 forests exactly enough to fully chop for forge and Colousus As I explained. The cost of The Colosuss is low and only requires two chops, + the current +5 :hammers: each turn will be enough to build the Colusus in 6 turns. (5 for chopping one for each worker moving)

The other issue why the forge needs to be chopped out quick is because it is already 350 AD. The City which I mentioned Novorgard is the only one that viably has 6 forests and won't be affected by the clear cut, exactly what you need for this chop to work (as well as two workers)

I have the save.

I'm still unclear if we are waiting for Snap or if I am to play my turns so I'll wait a few hours to see what the rest of the team says.

I say go for it, havn't heard from snap in 3 days

Definitely go for it.

395 AD: -
410 AD: Ghandi offers Silk for Sugar. I accept.
425 AD: -
440 AD: Library done in Alexandria. Started on a market.
455 AD: Market done in Memphis. Started on a Forge.
470 AD: Code of Laws researched. Ghandi already knows it so no trade there. Started on Civil Service. I did not switch to Caste System.

485 AD: -

Our wars and quick expansion have put our economy into the toliet again. There wasn't much I could do at this point but it should be ok in 10-20 more turns. Much of Persia is explored now. Their weakest city is Taurus from my recollection.

I didn't rush anything this turn set as we were on borderline happiness most of my turn set.

It looks like we're still in the lead at the time of the save.

That would make... me up
How's about that?

I'll play tomorrow, or later tonight. Prolli tomorrow, to give y'all east coasters time to comment ;)

Please Update on the status of Novogard when you get a moment (i.e. Coloussus, if you plan on continueing this)

Please skip me for the next couple of turns til I say I'm back. Baby is out, and she demands attention!!! :)

I believe the Forge was still a couple turns from being complete when I finished the round. That was with 2 forest chops. There are 4 other forests nearby that can be applied to the wonder if we so choose to build it there.

berserks, congratulations!

New Roster:
Zalson (up, playing shortly)
berserks01-skipped until further notice?
BeefontheBone: on deck
Dantski
Snap (?)
Memphus
OSO

Oh, and I'd just like to notify you guys vewy early... I will be gone the month of July, so I hope we can finish this afore then!

All right, took a look around and changed some stuff.

Elephantine was on Avoid Growth, so I switched it off.
Pi-Ramses was growing, when it can't afford to. I starved it down, and set it working the silver and the mine, later to just the silver (ecoboon)
I set the science rate to 60% for two turns.

450- St. Pete finished something, started a courthouse.
Novgrood- should be able to give us a navy; please farm more, as opposed to unbridled cottaging. Also, I disagreed with the chopping of the forests... while an effective technique, I think it would be more beneficial to get build the Colossus in 17-shield Memphis. However, I realized this after I made the switch... sorry guys :( If that costs us the wonder, I apologize.

530 I decide we need to break out the whip. So that's why more score won't soar high... but Beef's should. Whipped Moscow and Yaroslavl'; I think we should stick the FP is Moscow? What does everyone else think? Depends on costs, I guess.

545- Gandhi gets the GL. I am not made happy by this, but hey... he's our possible PA in the future, so I let him off.

560- Finally come to my senses and whip the forge in Memphis- we have enough happy, and it should finish faster than Novgrood (sory, forgot about the chops). Novgrood whipped the granary.

575- The Colossus is due in 8 in Memphis. I whipped a market in Alexandria and learned that Mr. Capac now has Feudalism :(

620- Whip something in Elephantine... don't remember what. Generally, after I whipped, I started a courthouse. We're losing too much $ that way.

635- Decided we could do with monarchy, as high growth would be nice. Pull this trade:

RBSGOTM1CyMona.JPG

And revolt to monarchy. Forgot to verify if the Capac has Fuedalism... which doesn't really matter, but oh well. I also set science at 60 for 1; please alternate between 40 and 50. Also, wait 15 for whipping; better yet, try to set up a GP farm, either in moscow or in Heliopolis or Alexandria.

Please continue to build military. I'd reccomend machinery and then optics next, so's we can go find Mr. Huyana.

Please leave Cyrus alone. He's friendly with us, and I see no reason why we should betray him. A diplo victory might come quickly... who knows?

Which one are we going for, btw? Have we decided.

When CS comes in, please irrigate along the following paths:

Go Beef. You're up.

That plains tile 2 south of moscow already has fresh water, doesn't it? in fact, isn't that a farm 2s 1e of it?

Er... you know... it's not nice to be observant all the time. :p

Well spotted. But the reason I'm doing that is... well, we could just farm that grassland forest... I mean,c 'mon. It was late, I was tired.

Whatever. You should be able to figger it out.

T2 - 680 AD:

Colossus completed in Memphis. I assign a merchant there and start a courthouse. A forge is begun in St Pete's.

T3 - 690 AD:

Someone builds Notre Dame. I wish the work boat in the north hadn't been left on goto, I wouldn'tve wasted a turn of production on one then...
Start a barracks in Moscow with a view to getting some Horse Archers built - they're fantastic for taking cities.

T5 - 725 AD:

Civil Service comes in, allowing farms to spread irrigation. I adopt Bureaucracy (and have trouble spelling it...) since the extra gold in Thebes easily outweighs the extra maintenance, let alone the extra production. Start machinery for obvious reasons.

T7 - 755 AD:

Courthouse finished in Thebes, start a monastery for the science output (we could also use a few missionaries to spread the Jewish faith around a bit).
Trade Civil Service to Gandhi for Compass and Drama - a bit light but he's a hard bargainer :)

T8 - 770 AD:
Whip a forge in Elephantine - most of its production is still with the whip :)

T9 - 785 AD:
Start harbour in Ele for want of a lot better to do.

Hmmm, not a tremendously exciting set of turns, but we're in good shape here. Gandhi's scarliy ahead in tech, and someone built Notre Dame, but we're caught up in score and nearly ready to take some more land off Cyrus - our forces are mainly in place waiting for ferrying, we just need some more cats, a galley or two and a bunch of horse archers. Cyrus is waaaay behind us so he should be relatively easy pickings.

The save is here.

Apologies for the lack of screenies, but not a lot happened of great interest :)
