SGOTM 01 - V Q

:rotfl:
Yeah. That's right. But then it would also be about bin. But we're getting fussy.

Man, I hate insider jokes about different languages that I have no hope of understanding no matter how cool I wish I was.... time to bring back the TLAs!!

@bobrath:

JFK said "Ich bin ein Berliner", i.e. I am a Berlin-person. In the German construct for this style of phrase, however, ein (which is equivalent to the english 'a' or 'an') is not required. The correct phrase would've been Ich bin Berliner. Ein Berliner is a pastry, sometimes equated with a donut but iirc not the one Americans are familiar with. So by saying Ich bin ein Berliner, JFK was saying he was a donut.

My explorer just broke down. But i've nearly feared for another

Less talky more play!!!!!

;) But that

Damn, and I almost made it through the day without learning something.

is really funny ...

Have also been explaining it. Actually it is possible to say "Ich bin ein Berliner." But since he stressed the 'ein' ... :dubious: getting fussy again. ...

It is a bit like a donut ... it's pretty much the same dough ... but without the hole in the middle and mostly filled with jam.

BTW: If my comments hold any horrible mistakes - considering phrases or times or something alike - you're welcome in pointing me to them ... or them to me?

On the game: How many turns would it take to discover drama? If you would want theatres.

Only cause I'm bored and awaiting a certain set of turns to be played... BTW your english is already good quality, its more the little things that us natives pick up on through trial and error.

If my comments have any horrible mistakes

Please point them out

Really minimal changes (and I'm getting dangerously far off topic here!)

 Even though ... Thank You.

Edit: Strawberry-Jam is most common :D (Could'nt resist adding this.)

Edit #2:

ChrTh said:
I got it, will be playing in about 10 hours.
Hopefully that's the reason why he's already off ...

Some called him ChrTh the Reckless. Others ChrTh the Mad. And some said that he was ChrTh the Bold. In any case, his leadership was one that would have far-reaching implications ...

In 1010 AD he rose to power. Because his mad plan involved receiving Calendar from the beseiged Catherine, he switched research to Literature (due in 10). He also found some loafing workers and was tempted to kill them for their insolence, but instead sent them to take care of the gems.

He leaves the builds as are because he sees the need for the lighthouses...however he may switch them next turn depending on the roll of the dice ...

Turn 1 -- 1025 AD

Heliopolis: Lighthouse > Courthouse.

Moscow has expanded, giving us Sugar and helping us with our Happy.

ChrTh the Rash sent the troops into Novgorod ...
Cat suicides.
Sword loses to Longbow.
Sword loses to Longbow.
Sword defeats Longbow.
Sword defeats Longbow ... Success! Novgorod is ours!

I dial up Cathy, and she gives us EVERYTHING:
asgotmn9xy.jpg

Ok, dial up FDR ... and he doesn't need Calendar anymore :wallbash: ... however, this might be a bug in the game, so I'll check next turn.

I now have 2 rice on hand, so I trade one to Gandhi for pigs.

Literature will now be researched in 5 turns at 50% science (-7 gpt for now).

Turn 2 -- 1040 AD

Thebes: Archer > Archer
Memphis: Lighthouse > Granary
Alexandria: Lighthouse > Granary

Nope, FDR still doesn't need Calendar :wallbash:

Turn 3 -- 1055 AD

I trade cows to Cyrus for 4gpt. Yeah, it's not that much, but we have plenty.

Turn 4 -- 1070 AD

 HC's caravel catches up to our galley and sinks it.

Turn 5 -- 1085 AD

Thebes: Archer > Sword

Turn 6 -- 1100 AD

Literature comes in, start Civil Service for now. Unfortunately, FDR is the only one who doesn't have Lit, and I can't get Monarchy out of him for it. :wallbash: I stay with Civil Service since no one else has it ... maybe we'll get lucky.

Turn 7 -- 1106 AD

Elephantine: Aqueduct > Market

Turn 8 -- 1112 AD

Memphis: Granary > Sword

Turn 9 -- 1118 AD

Thebes: Sword > Research (to speed up Civil Service)

Turn 10 -- 1124 AD

Pi-Ram: Library > Courthouse

 Yakutsk's borders expanded, meaning it's going to take me an extra turn to get there.

Turn 11 -- 1130 AD

Memphis: Sword > Market

Peace Treaty cancelled. The Final struggle against Cathy begins. Immediately everyone isn't very happy.

Yakutsk is guarded by 2 longbows.

Turn 12 -- 1136 AD

Helipolis: Courthouse > Market

Turn 13 -- 1142 AD

Alexandria: Granary > Market

Assault on Yakutsk.
1 Cat suicides. Another cat suicides. Sword loses to longbow. Sword loses to longbow. Axe defeats longbow. Axe loses to longbow. Axe defeats longbow ...

Well... a 10-turn peace treaty still gives you 5 turns to take her out... :mischief:

Piece o' cake. :D

Turn 14 -- 1148 AD

Peace is declared.

Turn 15 -- 1154 AD

Whoops, I sent a Catapult on a long goto .. sorry.

I convert to Hinduism (sorry, forgot to do it 2 turns ago). I don't think it's worth changing civics to OR until after Yakutsk is out of revolt.

Ok, Civil Service is due in 7 (at -20gpt). Unfortunately, Gandhi already has it. FDR and Cyrus, however, do not. If we do get it before them, see if you can trade forward two levels (that means waiting a turn after the first trade). FDR is more advanced than Cyrus, so I would trade with Cyrus first. I just wish I could get FDR to take Lit off my hands.

Spoiler :

Peace is declared.
Does that mean she's not yet buried?

When you eliminate a Civ, War Weariness, We Wish To Return To Our Homeland, etc., do not go away until the next turn (since there is no formal peace treaty). I'm guessing it has to do with how the game recalculates the Happy each inter-turn.

 Yeah, I did know that. But I wasn't sure about whether you did eliminate her or not. Since you stated that Peace is declared ... :crazyeye:

But so it seems that you DID finish her off ... :D

Geez, two pages added while I slept.

Good jobs getting those Techs and Killing Cathy ...

But that leaves me with a daunting task of rebuilding the economy ... To hell with that, I am going to build us some galleons and kill HC ... Muhwahahahaa ...

What? Astronomy is still an astronomical numbers of beakers away? Er .. ok, I'll think of something else ...

@Dot: Yours Faithfully, I believe.

@ GreyFox: Yours Faithfully ?????????

I know that term but what are you alluding to?

BTW, just been thinking that you should be up quite soon ... and here you are. Aaahhh ... so you're already up next in the roster? again.

Edit: Will you bring me some beautiful screenshots of legs in Thebes? ;)

Yours Faithfully was a typical lead in to a signature at the end of a letter. So you'd culminate a letter to a friend with:

"and that's how we decided to leave for Nara.

Yours Faithfully,
Bobrath Q. Public"

Also "Yours in Faith", "Truthfully yours", and "Love".

(BTW its not real common any more and in the form that Greyfox used its more of an eloquent way of stating "Yeah that's me".)

Post #500. :wow:

Thanx for teaching bobrath. I like to learn. I've always found it a bit ... overdone. But it's the way I've learned @ school. Good to know that it's changing ;)
