SGOTM 01 - V Q

Nice job GreyFox.

If we get a PA we might win when Saladin's former cities pop their cultural borders. Now if we can only get that PA.

@eektor: Are you still not able to play until tomorrow night? I might be able to play tonight (still have a couple things to verify first).

It's just I'm not sure what time I'll be getting home tonight. If you can play go for it.

BTW I looked at the XML again for Gandhi and I think these are the relevant lines for the PA.

<PermanentAllianceRefuseAttitudeThreshold>ATTITUDE_PLEASED</PermanentAllianceRefuseAttitudeThreshold>

<ContactType>CONTACT_PERMANENT_ALLIANCE</ContactType>
<iContactRand>80</iContactRand>

<ContactType>CONTACT_PERMANENT_ALLIANCE</ContactType>
<iContactDelay>20</iContactDelay>

I think the delay is how many turns you need a DP or mutual struggle to get the PA. Of course it could also mean how many turns til they do another check to see if Gandhi wants a PA or not.

The Rand number I believe goes from 0 to 100 with 100 being always happens and 0 never happens.

Well, anybody who knows more about programming (doesn't take much to know more than me) feel free to say something.

If you might play tonight I won't take it, because I'm not sure how successful I'll be. I'll just wait until my next turn (if there is one !)

I think those XML tags are only for AI asking: he'll ask us if the attitude is Pleased, 80 being the % chance he'll ask, and the delay being how many turns before he may ask again (in this case 20). I don't think it impacts how long we need to be in a MS or DP.

EDIT: We're definitely at the point where we should check every turn. You never know ...

Pfft. I am a professional ... why spend 3 hours fixing the computer that way when I can spend 30 hours trying every little thing possible to fix it! :shake:
, "Proffesionals do it slooooooow"

2 skips and a retake by the Foxman... I allmost thought I was up, with Eektor going at it... :scan:

War on Cyrus? Yipes  Gandhi and Cyrus are closer than pees in a pod...

Gandhi is friends with FDR as well... :( So I guess we PA now? Or never? or can we take the -1 hit? And pull Gandhi in too?

Eektor? CHRth ?? Wait no I will take it

:cooool: Got ya going? Nah, I will wait my turn ... :mischief:

Let's just say there is like a 20% chance or less I'll play tonight. If you can play, just post a message saying you're going to play. If I'm able to play I'll check and then post a message that I'm going to play. I would prefer to play tomorrow since I'll have more time to play anyways.

Ok, if I can play I will post a "Got It" first. Time is a question for me as well, it seems like I have to play for a very long time whenever I go after GreyFox :hmm:

Well whoever's got it better not give to me :borg:

Let's get this game moving. I GOT IT. :salute: Expect a report in about 3 hours (probably will break halfway through to work out)

Turn 0 -- 1750 AD

Ok, goals for the turn: keep Gandhi happy, build military, leave Sally hanging.

94 turns remaining for Railroad?!? Oh, binary research ... I'll be fixing that.

I suspect War Weariness is going to start slamming us hard by the end of my turn.

Turn 1 -- 1752 AD

Thebes: Cannon > Rifle
Moscow: Rifle > Cannon
Baghdad: Barracks > Courthouse (Yikes we need State Property!)

Gandhi has completed Rock and Roll. I trade him an Ivory for a Hit Single.
Gandhi also has Railroad now (as does FDR). Still no PA.

Turn 2 -- 1754 AD

Helipolis: Taoist Monastery > Cavalry
Pi-Ram: Rifle > Cannon
Giza: Cannon > Rifle
Novgorod: Cannon > Rifle
Damascus: Christian Temple > Christian Monastery

Still no PA.

Turn 3 -- 1756 AD

Thebes: Rifle > Jewish Monastery
Kufah comes out of Revolt. Whip a Theatre.

F@#! :gripe:

I'm stopping right here. I've uploaded the save so we can figure out how to proceed. I think we need to conquer Sally now, and I think we're going to need to keep going.

Spoiler :

Here is your Session Turn Log from 1750 AD to 1756 AD:

Turn 390, 1750 AD: Gandhi has completed Rock N Roll!

Turn 392, 1754 AD: Machu Picchu celebrates "We Love the Dictator Day"!!!

Is Gandhi going for a diplo or cultural win? Though cultural has been extremely unlikely for him to reach - at least the last time i looked at a save.

:hmm:

I think it's a built-in factor in the diplomacy, just like "you're too powerful"

Oh, I forgot :wallbash:

...I'm going to look into the UN situation.

Diplo Situation:
>> Gandhi US
FDR +5 +6
Cyrus +3 +5

Right now we have ~40% of the population. Currently there are 624 active votes in play. We have 250 of them. We need 386 to win, so we need to find 136 votes. If we can get FDR to +10, we might be able to pull a diplo victory if Gandhi builds UN. Converting to Christianity plus adopting Universal Sufferage could get us there.

However, that plan involves NOT ATTACKING FDR (and also giving in to everything he asks for). And maybe asking him to declare war on Sally.

EDIT: Looking at the techs, FDR isn't very far ahead of us, and Cyrus barely. Neither have Communism yet. A DP with FDR after Sally is eliminated would also give us bonus points with him.

What I'm Thinking (tm)

I'm thinking our best course of action is as follows:
Convert to Christianity.
Change Civics to US and OR (to build stuff faster in our newest conquered territory).
Eliminate Sally.
Enter a DP with FDR.
Beeline to Mass Media. I don't know how intelligent the AI is; would Gandhi build UN knowing we can win if he does? This will also be good because it'll give us Communism (we badly need State Property). Cyrus doesn't have Railroad, I would trade him Railroad for SciMeth (do the monasteries really matter all that much?). The other advantage of Beelining is that Gandhi might change his mind and deem us worthy...if so, I might add a DP with him as well (need to play that by ear).
If we get a chance to build the UN before Gandhi, build it with GEs in a city which borders FDR. If FDR likes us enough we may be able to win without giving the city to FDR; if that fails, however, and if Gandhi still loves us, we can gift it to FDR--hopefully that'll work (I'd rather get FDR voting for us just because that is more certain an outcome if he likes us enough). Of course, if Gandhi builds it, we'll need FDR at least to win.

The other option is to invade FDR. I don't like this option. We're behind him in power as it is, and he can better focus his forces (since his aren't spread among three continents). At best it's a prolonged war that'll kill our productivity and eliminate any chance of winning diplomacy (of the non-backdoor kind), at worst it could cost us the game.

@ChrTh: Comments on What You're Thinking:

 I perfectly agree. On the question whether monastries matter or not ... In my games they do since I'll have about 3 to 6 in every city. But iirc you don't, so I'll assume that they won't matter here.
